- dream's smp has been through so much hardship. the l'manburg revolution, the manburg election, tubbo's execution, and now one final battle on the horizon... it's exhilarating, but sometimes you wonder - what if none of this had happened? what if the world was peaceful? would it be better? this song follows dream, who has now sided with jschlatt to defeat wilbur soot, tommyinnit, and the rest of pogtopia. what if he sees himself as the hero? what if he sees this as his way of bringing back peace, once and for all?

hey guys!!! i'm back!! it took a minute to find a dream smp character i really wanted to write about, but this one was actually quite fun. it was a challenge but i think it turned out wel!
a lot of people have asked me whether i will put disappear on spotify or make a 1 hour loop/karaoke track of it. these are definitely things i want to do, and to be honest, the main reason i haven't is because i've been hard at work on this song! if all goes well, i'll release them both on spotify as soon as possible, that much is for sure :)

i really love how it sounds like Dream singing about his kingdom like his own child,, in his own eyes, he just really wanted to protect it, but greedy people kept gnawing off, scratching up bits and pieces till the kingdom shattered from the conflicts of war.
and still, like a loving father cradling his broken child in his arms he's fighting for it despite the knowledge of the ill-will that will be spoken on his name.

what's more interesting is the prominence of anger consuming him in this arc. now, he's developed into a despaired father clutching his broken kingdom like shattered glass in his palms, bleeding from the wounds, but remaining unfazed from the pain.

@@seignee Yesh, Dream won't let himself bleed alone, he is not going to let himself be in pain ALONE. From what I have seen up to now, Dream is going to get rid of everyone that's a threat for peace on the SMP. If you watch the Disk Saga, Dream never wanted war or killing on the first place.
But then, this and that came, he just wants his land back, like how Tommy wants L'Manburg back. It's the exact same thing. So for those who thinks that Dream is being extremely rude or has turned into a villain...get your head straight, he just wants what he thinks is best for the SMP.
He demoted George from the position of King due to him knowing that George will get attacked over and over again until he drop. But due to people pushing him around, his peacefulness from the Disk Saga has evaporated into thin air. If he can't solve the problems on the SMP by words...he'll have to do what he must

I love how many of the bad guys in the smp are morally gray characters, where their motives justify the actions yet the actions are so horrible. The fine arts community really went to town with this storyline and smp, good job!
That’s why the smp is sometimes better than actual shows, because they are all real humans who want to be good guys, but in different ways. Except of some that just wanna have fun (Technoblade, jschlatt)

Honestly, your vocals and musical ability are phenomenal, but I think above all you have the most powerful and eloquent lyrics out of any of the Dream SMP songwriters by far. Your songs genuinely read like a story every time and I feel like no one quite elevates the drama of the server to the next level like you.

This is a great depiction of Dream's character the wars all started with Tommy and more and more were started and Dream was called the villain so much that he just snapped and was like "you want evil I'll show you evil"

OH, your here, love your stuff, but I bet you won’t see this :(
This makes me feel so sad for Dream, all he wanted was to create a kingdom where he could reign and maintain order so that everyone could peacefully live and do their own thing, and now, not necessarily because of L'manburg but Its rulers, It's war everywhere. So to correct things he is going to risk It all to bring things back to normal, even if It means he'll need to manipulate, backstab and essentially turn into a villain, tho he was already considered one before. But that happened because he didn't think L'manburg could be a good thing for the kingdom, as he always thought his ruling was the best to ever, that will and could exist. Yet, after the independence war, he gained a glimpse of hope and started respecting Wilbur for creating such a good and welcoming country. However, all of it came to shambles when Dream noticed that Wilbur didn't care anymore about getting L'manburg back, he only wanted to destroy everything. You could argue that Dream was manipulating everyone even before he talked to Wilbur, but as Dream said when Wilbur was asking for the TNT, he wasn't doing that because he wanted to weaken both sides, but mostly because he wanted L'manburg back, he saw what It could be and still trusted Wilbur. But after noticing Wilburs intentions he kind of said screw It and decided that there was no point in caring about L'manburg anymore if Its leader didn't, because then he would waste even more resources for something he (Wilbur) doesn't want to, so he gave Wilbur the TNT and now he's doing exactly as Wilbur thought he was. Because since now taking L'manburg back is out of the equation, his main objective is to take everything for himself. Or at least that's my interpretation, but sincerely, before thinking about It while writing this, I didn't think Dreams character was so deep, like, wow. Oh yeah, also, this music is great.
Edit: I believe Dream joined Jschllats side because he wanted to balance things out, or else pogtopia would get L'manburg back without any consequences. Maybe he did that out of respect for Wilbur, but also because that would weaken both sides, so doing that would contribute to his now newly made masterplan to take the SMP. In the end, pogtopia did take It back without any consequences because Jschllat got drunk and did nothing for the entire war, but here's the catch: Dream already knew that It didn't matter whether Pogtopia or Manburg won because he planned with Wilbur to destroy It no matter what happened. If Pogtopia won, the people who fought so hard for It would see their now retaken nation completely destroyed. If Manburg won, Pogtopia would be really weakened, so the only thing that would be stopping Dream is Manburg and Jschllat, so if he destroyed It and killed him, he would now have complete control over the SMP. Also, he could have decided to ally with Techno, who is like, his complete opposite in terms of political agreement (Techno wants anarchy, Dream wants Monarchy or something) because, well, Techno is probably the strongest in the server so going against him would be a problem, L'manburg was going to get destroyed anyway so he could have taken that opportunity to destroy It even more as he knew Techno would rebel, and because ultimately, Techno and Dreams objectives are the same, or at least very similar, so he took that moment to see if Techno could change his mind (, just like he gave a chance for Wilbur to prove that he could rule a nation, as when Tommy gave Dream the rest of his discs, Dream had the upper hand so even if they agreed to exchange L’manburgs independence for the discs, Dream could still have tricked them and just have taken both the discs and L’manburg): Both of them want peace, but on different terms: Techno believes power corrupts so there must be no government to have peace, Dream on the other hand believes It's only possible to achieve peace with someone controlling a country, not necessarily him tho, as he saw that other people like Wilbur could be good rulers. (Those reasons that I listed of why Dream joined Technos side weren't the main reason, just couple ones that he also considered before allying with him due to the situation) My guess is that Dream allied with Techno just to control him and wait till he's gone to take over the SMP again, as he probably thinks what Techno is doing isn't going to work and some people will end up rebelling against him, then after fighting, both the people against him and Techno will be weakened, so the only and last thing he'll need to do is take It all again. If that's not what will happen, then I think Dream could possibly rethink things and join Technos side for good (maybe he already did), thinking anarchy is truly the way to go. As of now, he could understand that power corrupts other people, including him, as he already was wrong last time about him being the only ruler that could exist and etc, so I think It could make sense for him to question himself like that and eventually agree with Techno. But to confirm, or partially confirm or be completely wrong, we’ll need to see what will happen in the next few weeks. When something happens, I’ll update this comment.
(for the people thinking Dream isn't an actual hero: He isn't, but he thinks he is, that's the point. Just like Technoblade, he thinks the means justifies the ends. Considering that, It makes sense for him to think of himself as a hero, no matter what he does and or how bad he ends up being.)
(I changed things a bit because I noticed that some of the reasonings didn't make sense. Also, this new version of Dreams lore explains why he respects so much Wilbur, because he thinks of him as an equal, a good ruler.)
Any more thoughts on this? I would like to know what other people think about this.

This sort of reminds me that no ones really the villain in their own point of view. It's just a clash of world views and experiences and I think it's great that so many amazing interpretations came from this block-men game

If you think about it, this song really fits Dream. He made the Smp and then the revolution started. While L'manburg is the symbol of freedom for Wilbur, Tommy, Tubbo and the others for Dream L'manburg is the symbol of dividance. All Dream wanted was a peaceful Smp but then they started fighting and slowly Dream became cold and everyone became scared of him. Dream isn't actually the villain, he just wants his land back just like Tommy wants L'manburg.

"I will be the Villain you want me to be." Make me thinks of that moment where Dream stopped being the mediator, trying to make the conflict stop and changed into the villain that manipulated everyone instead.
"with royals and loyalties put to the test." Is how his manipulation works. Dream's manipulation wouldn't work if they were loyal to each other but there's always dark side in everyone's heart that make Dream to be able to use it.
And last, "my way has always been best." Is somehow sounds like Dream had descended into madness and become the cold-hearted villain we know. He believed that he is superior than others.
This is just my thoughts. I get into dsmp late, so I haven't covered all of the lore yet.

So, I've been in the fandom for 4 months now and I've listened to a few fan songs here and there and this is the only explicitly c!Dream sympathetic song I have found and it is 6 months old.
This song is 6 months old and still manages to capture everything that makes c!Dream's character arc so tragic, that made me fall in love with his character in the first/second/third/fourth place. Call me what you want but his character, his story, just makes me so sad in a way none of the other characters do.
Like, imagine this. You build/find/buy a place for you and your friends and you openly invite them to join you, for free. You make a place and it's become a home and your friends become family and you want to share it with them with others so you invite more and more people. And then the very people you let in turn around and in essence, destroy the place. They divide your family and paint you the villain for trying to stop them. And that title haunts you long after the war is over. And everything you try to do after, to help the "heroes" to rid yourself of that title, fails. You are told by the very person who ruined your home what you want, and what you "want" is destruction. And it's repeated over and over until everyone says it, everyone believes it, so it must be true right? Until you start believing it to be true yourself. You stop caring about what other people think, you stop trying to change their opinions. You start thinking "the ends justifies the means" and you'll do anything to achieve your goal, now. You watch as your friends leave you, as your attachments are used against you and think it's better not to love, and be hurt than it is to love, and lose it. (but you can't help but get attached anyways). You think destroying the place that divided your world would fix it. You think you should finish what they started, for good. You stare out at a sea of people, everyone has turned against you, you're alone. There's no one on your side, not anymore. They leave you to rot in a prison of your own creation, because you're still useful and they don't think you human enough to be fixed. They leave you there, and you rot, and you know, you know there's no one outside who is coming to get you. There is no one who'll save you. You've lost everything. And the one thing you have left, now leaves you at the mercy of someone who believes smashing apart the box to your knowledge will open the lock on your secrets.
This song is 6 months old and it still goes through every single beat of c!Dream's character arc and I am very sad that I didn't find this sooner. Well done. Well freaking done.

Its kinda sad that people forget that Dream only wanted his kingdom back and because his pov isn't shown, no one realizes that behind all that deception and manipulation was a man who loved his nation, thus he was always shown as the villain who only wanted power, but not shown as one of the few leaders who actually cared about their country and their citizens. Schlatt was corrupt and only wanted power without reason, Wilbur was insane and even wanted to destroy his own country, Tommy was irresponsible and didn't want to be a leader, thus he passed down the responsibility to a very inexperienced Tubbo, Tubbo was easily tricked and was naive, while Dream actually removed George from his position from king to protect him, he punished the guy who burnt down George's house, defeated all his enemies for the benefit of his nation, never did anything without a good reason(he exiled and bullied Tommy so he wouldn't do it to others again), became a villain in the eyes of others to protect his nation and friends, and was the original guy who created everything and created rules in order for law and peace to prosper.
@@geoplane3799 Speaking of not doing anything without a good reason, I feel like most people forget that Dream only pushed for Tommy’s exile because Tommy tried to use Spirit against him. If he didn’t do that, he would’ve gotten off with the probation and everything would be fine
@@danaa382 Also people forget that Dream only became the villain because of the fighting and territories, the reason Dream took the disk from Tommy was to stop him destroying the smp in the first place. He didn't want L'manburg to form independence because one of the rules are that only Europeans are allowed, which Dream is not, ergo he and his friends aren't allowed. Dream didn't want Schlatt to rule because Schlatt wanted more land, and Pogtopia is basically an underground l'manburg. Some people don't even know that the only place Dream wants gone is L'manburg and nothing else. He's okay with the badlands and others except for L'manburg which is a big'ole crater noe.
This is BEAUTIFUL!!! This song actually made me cry and it makes so much sense if this is how Dream saw it. After all, the server is called Dream SMP and it's kinda like with L'manberg and the Elections everyone forgot about that and twisted Dream and his motives into being the villain and evil when all he wanted was his kingdom back and for the wars to stop. I MEAN COME ON "you forgot it was mine, I built the earth, the sky, a landmark in our past" and "My kingdom is dead, and its blood in on your tongue" IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. The song gives Dream's character such a sad and tragic backstory that it makes you sympathize with him to the point you wish he won. Safe to say I'm seriously sobbing about how amazing this community is. The song was amazing and so eye-opening, you have a real talent for singing and should definitely keep it up!

Honestly we needed Dream’s POV, when it all started, to where it is now. All Dream wanted was peace, until hell broke loose. He only wanted what was right for the SMP, until Tommy came and turned that all around. [ Not hating, I absolutely love their storyline, and how everyone is acting ]
Dream is seen to be the villain, but he actually may just want to be the hero of the Dream SMP, he’s trying, just having trouble doing it.

This song hits twice harder after the prison arc. I'd like to imagine that deep down he truly just loves his land and wanted it back, where he could have fun with his friends, without some kid taking more and more part of his land. Yes, the was he tries to take it back is wrong, he did spiral into a dark road. When words don't work, he tries violence, then manipulation, because he desperately wants that one thing he had back. With no one really on your side, that could easily drove you to drastic measures. Nobody in the whole smp is a villain or a hero, everyone is just morally grey characters with flaws. Dream's purpose of not streaming on the SMP (at least what i believe) is not only to not take viewers from the other players on it, but also not give a look into the mind of his character, so it is harder to sympathize with him, much like with JSchlatt. Painted to be the villains, nobody really knowing what they arw planning or thinking. And even though all these things make it hard, we still find a way to feel sorry for them in a way. Of course, THROW THAT SHIT OUT THE WINDOW, CUZ DREAM (character) IS A FUCKING DICKHEAD AND SHOULD ROT IN THE DAMN CELL. Sorry for the tangent lol, bye :)
@@sofiasabova404 Well Jschlatt doesn't stream because he just doesn't and wants the biggest offline raids and what not, But the whole thing about dream not streaming is because he truly does want the others to grow from this you can even check the video out from a stream with Hbomb, and I don't think Dream deserves to rot in Hell that's to far because I mean Tommy has done half the damage dream has done as well and Dream reason can be clarified for most parts and he is still humane.
Listening to this song has me thinking Dream is not the villain of the story but was just thought of as because of his ways to bring back his Kingdom to his hands! :00

The events from the smp are really sad when you see it through Dream's eyes, he just wants to keep his server together because it IS after all HIS server but people keep trying to claim it, keep causing wars and they see him as the villain for simply trying to keep his land safe in his hands. Dream made the smp... It broke apart.. L’manberg and pogtopia and badlands. Wars happen sometimes because of a pet. Dream just wanted peace and now Sapnap and george are breaking away from him. Barely anyone is actually in his kingdom except for Eret and punz and some more
Edit: See whatever side Dream is on he is seen as a villain. When he joined pogtopia he was seen as a villain. He joined manburg he was seen as a villain. He banished Tommy he was seen as a villain anything Dream does he looks like a villain but in reality he just wants *Dream* smp back to the peaceful way it was.

This is like literally Dream's POV so spectacular and intriguing. He's obviously the creator of the world, They created that court thing to maintain peace then suddenly hell broke loose.
This hits different with the current arc and with finding out a little of dreams motivation and how he wanted the server to be like one big family.
OMG! I just love how everyone theorize on Dream’s character, like it’s SUPER INTERESTING! And that makes him my favorite character in the whole SMP, other than Tommy and President Tubbo.
Dream is really unpredictable, not so much of an open book. He has schemes. He has plans.
And that what makes him so fun to theorize and know what he wants and what he’s after for.

Brilliant song with powerful lyrics. When I firsts heard the song I was taken aback by how, despite dreams despicable and manipulating nature in the SMP, his action could easily be taken in a way that suggests at Dream being this almost forgotten ruler who was forced to become a figure of evil intent so his nation would still prosper and live on.

Also, I feel as if I'm one of the few people who never thought of Dream as a villain, though that's probably just cause I'm a big fan of him lmao. This is a really good song that really makes you think of perspectives. My dad taught me about perspectives during times of war and in general, and that there is truly no bad guy or good guy in the world. It's all based on people's perspectives.

DUDE THAT WAS INCREDIBLE ok I'm going to ramble for a bit about how good this is I'm so sorry feel free to ignore this lol. I think we get so wrapped up in the idea of Dream being a villain, that we do forget this is his server, and god the lines "you forgot it was mine, I built the earth, the sky, a landmark in our past" really hit me hard. God, also the line "my kingdom is dead, and its blood is on your tongue" was GORGEOUS candlebard I'm sobbing right now. This was such a well-written song, you captured such an interesting, sympathetic, tragic view on his character, and I am SO HERE FOR IT. Also I know I'm really praising the lyrics, but also the melody?! The harmonies in the background?! The short bursts of piano at 1:14 fit so well?! And your voice is so clear, and absolutely gorgeous. Incredible job, I'm definitely going to be listening to this on loop for a very long time!!

Also the line “You learnt you were the villains just a couple wars too late” is amazing because since the whole narrative of the story was pioneered by Wilbur and the L’Manberg boys that took it from a normal SMP server to a really immersive drama and we were always sort of on their side from the beginning. But since the beginning they were always the real villains. They came into Dreams server and then tried to take their land and fight them for independence and with the election, even though I really do hate Schlatt’s character, he was the democratically elected leader and Pogtopia were rebels, terrorists essentially, and as Techno said, they staged a coup a hostile takeover and stole power. Tommy and Wilbur were the bad guys all along. Now that New L’Manberg is in Tubbo’s hands, hopefully they can go on to a peaceful and successful future. Amazing song btw.

Dream in his POV is the hero, you can tell when that one time he was talking to Skeppy using a metaphor of a house and someone trying to take a table. Which basically what Dream meant is that you can live peacefully in my land you can do almost anything but you cannot take land and power from my lands. Which is what exactly L’manburg did, they took away power and land from Dream. He just let L’manburg have independence before a huge what would continue

For a while I have been thinking about other povs other than L’manburgs. I have been thinking that Dream isn’t as bad as everyone makes him out to be. I don’t see him as a hero, but I see him to be just another person with goals on the server. Maybe he has become the villain due to his actions of chaos and destruction. Not to mention his wishes to obtain power. Despite this, I can’t really say he’s worse than crazy Wilbur or Schlatt because he seems to always do things for a reason, and he is not completely heartless or selfish. He cares for those in his care, and even when he forced L’manburg to exile Tommy he came back to help Tommy get started.
There are no hero’s or villains of the dream smp just people with motives and actions to enforce them

I’ve listened to this more than enough times for the past 2 months and I can safely say that this song is the perfect song for season 1 c!Dream’s final lament. It recaps what he saw and his perspective of what happened from the beginning of the war all the way up to the ending of season 1. Not just that but it gives way to season 2 c!Dream. The line “so I’ll be the villain you want me to be.” fits so perfectly to season 2 c!Dream that it serves such a big impact. The song may have been made before the events of season 2, but it’s written in a way that it fits so perfectly even with just vague details. It’s beautiful.
Just imagine when everything dies down and everyone starts to rebuild the nation, c!Dream walks away and into the forest. He walks around, reminiscing while he sings this song. The season ends with insight of what’s to come in the following season. To me, it’s such a perfect theatrical final song for the antagonist hiding in the shadows to show to everyone what he’s been thinking for the past few months (or more) and what he plans to do; take back what was rightfully his.

The DreamSMP was amazing and I love it but I saw this from someone else's comment on Kanaya's new song, "Marionettes" where Dream sang as a corrupt villain. Now that I've listened to this, I'm not sure if anyone's heard of the musical, but it gives me Twisted vibes (it's a Starkid musical.)
Basically the story was based off of Aladdin, but instead of Aladdin and Jasmine's point of view of the story, it focuses on Jafar, the villain. Sure in Aladdin, Jafar was portrayed as a cruel villain but in the musical, Twisted, it shows Jafar's point of view, his backstory, and what he went through.
The villain's story was twisted. The true 'victim' was the 'villain.'

This is actually what you SEE from Dream's POV. This song makes me (and I'm sure most of the people) realize that, Dream isn't actually the villain. He- he just wants his land back, just like Tommy wants L'manburg back.

I never even thought Dream was the villain to begin with. I always thought he was manipulating everyone only because he wanted everything to be peaceful and whole again. He just started this server, and then this drug dealer (quackity) came on, a little british boy who also 'likes' drugs (tommy), and theres far more.
I think Dream got a little overwhelmed when all these things changed, like the drug dealer, and the little british boy who likes ruining stuff because its fun. That is the ultimate trouble-maker duo. With the addition of L'Manburg/Pogtopia, it brought lots of wars on the server. I wouldn't blame Dream at all, I think it would be really upsetting to see everyone fighting with eachother for no actual reason, too. The server is falling apart, bigtime.
That is the exact reason why I don't want my own server/SMP. When I started watching the Dream SMP and saw what was happening, I stopped wanting my own SMP, which I did actually want before. That was probably 5 months ago.
I actually feel sad for Dream and what is happening to his server. He's even being called a 'villain' and a 'traitor', etc. There's no going back once something like this happens, everyone will remember it.

This song is amazing and has some really deep lyrics that really get you thinking philosophically about a Minecraft server. Theres some real power trips and everything that happens on the server is down to perspective. No one is innocent, especially Tommy and Wilbur. I feel like I could right a thesis from just the meaning of these lyrics. Such an awesome song!

As a C!Dream enthusiast, i always try to see things from his pov and damn, this summed it up perfectly. He isn't necessarily good but tbh who on the SMP (who have been here since the wars and the start) can say whole heartedly can say they have done no 'villainous'? Dream isn't 'the villain', he has the right motives but the wrong course of action. Lol this is kinda biased since i love his character but i think everyone has come to terms with the fact that there isn't an 'villain' in the SMP all the characters have done equally as bad things, Wilbur blew up a nation because he thought it strayed from his original ideals, Sam ripped of his lover's arm for a book that he didn't even own, Techno helped execute Tubbo under the influence of quackity etc.
Summary: There is no villain on the SMP just a lot of morally-grey people fighting for literally nothing.

Well guess it's time for a character analysis nobody asked for. I feel like this is just so true, back when maybe he had humanity left in his character. But Dream has developed into some sort of entity, a force of nature, an agent of chaos (a god if you will). I keep thinking to when Wilbur went insane from loosing lmanburg, how dream enabled him to destroy his own broken land. Well it makes sense because just like Shlatt did to Wilbur, Wilbur took a piece of the smp away from dream, going on to taunt him about it. Then schlatt came along, and It really was just history repeating itself. Dream being the opportunist, helped it along. Dream's fatal flaw is his need for control, he causes chaos sure, but only if he knows that he is the reason for it. He needs to feel in power which is why he does everything he does. Like quackity says, dream can't help but get involved. It's why he's so cruel to tommy, because tommy just refuses to listen to him. It's why he shouted at tubbo, because tubbo stands as the living remnants of what pre insane wilbur wanted and what dream tried to destroy. I doubt dream was always a villain, like this song portrays so beautifully, he just descends more into chaos the longer it goes on just like wilbur. In trying to keep himself in control he just feeds the chaos which leads to more losses than wins, dream cares for "nothing" anymore because he refuses to be controlled, and in doing so destroys his last meaningful relationships. Dream is a liar, his whole god like identity he developed for himself is simply just a mask to convince people he's in control, and I believe to also convince himself he's in control. If i'm right then, the man is going to be his own undoing, he's heading in a downward spiral and the moment something doesn't go his way, the moment he realizes just how out of it he's becoming is the moment he'll be at his weakest. I'm just rambling now, if you managed to read this all then hi. I hope it made sense.

This song resonates well, now that Dream has escaped. I have always thought that Season 2 ended with a whimper because the script seemingly made Dream's IQ level go down nonsensically. And now, I'm glad it is revealed that the disc war finale was staged all along.

I think this represents what c!Dream stood for when he made the Dream SMP land and before L'manburg was created. And reasons Dream's main reason for still fighting.
Everything I say here is NOT EXCUSING c!DREAM'S ACTIONS. This is simply providing a reason as to what his character fights for, and why he'll do anything to get what he wants. I DO NOT SUPPORT c!DREAM'S ACTIONS AS MOST ARE QUIET MESSED UP.
Now hear me out, "Oh, Dream's bad. He fights for chaos, he's always influenced our MC's to do something evil and cause chaos. He laughed at L'maburg's death." ( Even though L'manburg was dead when Wilbur went insane. ) And yes, he has. But if you look at his character. He stands for peace, justice and chaos. Peace? Really? Justice as well? Well. Answering your "what ifs." Human, you where 50 steps ahead of us all. Dream does believe he's the hero. Everything he is doing is for peace, to bring peace back to his land- even if his view of "peace" is skewed, he's still fighting for peace. His end goal is peace, and his view of peace is one that you wouldn't expect.
He views peace as "everyone being one, big family." He views peace as everyone under the Dream SMP's rule, no one acting up, no explosions. None of that. His view of peace is those who are following under his rules, those under his control and following a strict ruleset he put up to withhold peace. ( L'manburg revolted due to Dream's reign, due to Dream's strict rules. ) His views of justice are "an eye for an eye." If something bad occurs, the other person has the right to do the same thing as just as much meaning to who was unfair first. Then the solution is solved and both sides are fair. ( What Dream desires in peace is a dystopia. )
Dystopia - (google) an imagined state or society in which there is great suffering or injustice, typically one that is totalitarian or post-apocalyptic.
This is Dream's goal. To reunite all his land- bring them all together through any means necessary. Any means. During trying to regain his land back, he realized how much power he has. He saw how scary he was, and secretly enjoyed all the chaos he caused - no matter how much he wanted peace. He loved chaos. He loved being in power, even if he would deny the such. When Dream accepted Tommy's disks, he was thinking in the long run. How he could use these disks to have power over L'manburg and Tommy in the longer run, to destroy L'manburg later. Plus this was a easy method to peace, and gave him control over the one boy that dared to defy him.
The offer was simply too tempting. He accepted the disks and gave L'manburg their independence.
Dream always had a god complex, a desire for power. Him ruling over land only solidified and brought forth these desires, and these feelings started to control him. He promised by any means needed, the Dream SMP would be at peace. Even if he had to use violence. Even if he became the villain in everyone's eyes. It's all been done with the goal of peace.
TLDR; Dream has a god complex and believes in his views of peace and justice. Yet his views on peace and justice are very twisted due to his god complex, desire for power and probably very messed up childhood.
SO TRUE!!! i love the perception that dream's character is working towards a more dystopian version of peace and control and that's why he keeps punishing everyone who steps even a little bit out of line
I think the “my way has always been best” does point to the darker side to the character. I love how it’s sympathetic but still doesn’t entirely ignore how Dream is framed in the SMP, especially with how he later treats Tommy. The note at the end too! Brilliant really

To me, there are few things quite as gut-wrenching and painfully tragic as realizing something important too late, and not being able to go back or fix anything. It's a feeling I got from Spinel's story from Steven Universe, and I feel it again with the line "you learned you were the villains just a couple wars too late". It's just such a wonderful, powerful, emotional, eloquent and yet raw line. It's a shame that I didn't realize how great this song was when I heard it for the first time several months ago. (Just as it's a shame that I've joined this fandom so late, even though I remember when the DSMP started to get some elements of roleplay. I just wasn't interested at the time, and I regret that so much because there is so much I need to catch up on, and because I'll never get to experience this story playing out like everyone else did at the time, and I'll never get to see and experience what the fandom was like at the time. There's that feeling again, although luckily it's nothing quite as serious.)

my version of the dream smp story/universe has a way more sympathetic dream who honestly.. never wanted to fight l'manburg? he would've been okay with giving them land- but he didn't like the fact that wilbur wanted to do a drug cartel.

but wilbur just keeps hurting people again and again.
