Regents can’t ignore the concerns of big-time boosters like the Rainbow NIL Collective, the Outrigger CEO & Na Koa. Lot of potential money & support is being lost here.
Second guessing why the departing President did this action and what the incoming President will do for the athletic department is being Johnny Carson's Karak. There are times, which being saddled with legacy decisions/personnel can be hard for incoming replacements to develop something on their own. We don't know what problems are with existing personnel/decisions, just as all the current operations are thrown into chaos, as nobody knows where the previous person left things. The sudden departure leaves tons of things under the rugs, where they were left, which nobody knows where the person left things. It's going to be tremendous work for incoming President to become organized to determine who's who, what's where, and why, they are doing it that way. In a way, it's a test of the group that selected the incoming candidate to see how well their selection criteria worked, as well as can the replacement do what they claimed. It'll be a whole new learning curve for the BOR, UH President, UH administration, athletic department, and every department plus the students to adjust to this chaos. Maybe, the entire shake up is good for the UH, Senate/House and UH community, that its not same old, same old. We'll have to wait and see.
It comes down to money. The UH Athletic Dept. budget is tiny, and Hawaii Athletics is going to face an uphill battle constantly. Replacing one AD for another one may not be a solution. I wonder who will want to work as the next AD, given this very difficult situation for the Athletic Department.
wahine volleyball, basketball, soccer, mens volleyball, baseball.....they please the supporters who DO buy UH merchandise to support the teams, giving business to concessions at the SSC and UH baseball stadium..... hint: i remember the good ol times when a athlete named Colt decided on his senior year to stay back and play for UH....with his and his teammates performances on games, merchandise profits probably JUMPED!!!
@@Waynes-xt9gr If Colt played for UH today, there is NO WAY that he would have remained at UH. He would have surely been lured away by multi-million dollar NIL deal that UH would not be able to match. Think of ALL the UH greats that have played for Hawaii - Niko Noga, Al Noga, Leo Goeas, Jesse Sapolu, Ashlie Leile, Chad Owens, Ma'a Tanuvasa, Taase Faumui, Vince Manuwai, Derek Tatsuno, Anthony Carter, Trevor Ruffin, Tee Williams, Blaine Gaison, Carl Kenneybrew, etc. NONE of those athletes would have remained at UH if NIL was a thing when they played. All of them would have been lured away, by a bigger, richer, school.
Only NOW people "question the direction" of the UH sports program?! What about letting JUNE JONES get away?! The GREATEST COACH in UH HISTORY!! He took us to the SUGAR BOWL. HE secured CONTRACTS with ESPN! Has ANYONE ELSE done that?!
@ drives me nuts! And most can’t even get it right. But I blame bj Penn for that, b4 he started throwing the Shaka on a world stage, the Shaka was still somewhat sacred. Now people around the world throwing it. Even the ones who’s never been here in their lives
UH athletics will fall…getting rid of a guy that saved UH millions and gained millions of dollars. UH will regret this.

Jones was looking to leave anyway for higher pay and a more visible program and he did. UH didn't have the funds to pay what he wanted.
Man, no locals in key positions anymore.
What is more odd are these none locals pretending to be locals with the shaka sign

@@GluteusMaximus808 I agree. Not only they exploit and commercialise it at their own gain. Interestingly enough the Brasilians use it to.
@@GluteusMaximus808 Yep, it's not special anymore. Everyone's using it.
