Music Theory for Beginners | Lesson Five | Chords and Chord Progressions

Learn how to use CHORDS to build your BASSLINES and MELODIES! Chords are the building blocks of any song. Whether you're making Trap Music, House Music, RNB, Jazz, or Rock Music, knowing this Music Theory can be a great help!
How To Build Chords:
If you want to make a MAJOR CHORD, you simply pick your root note, then go up 4 notes from that note, then go up 3 more notes from your second note to get your third note! For example, a C Major Chord is CEG. To get that, you'd start from C, go up 4 semitones/notes to E, then go up 3 semitones/notes from E to G.
If you want to make a MINOR CHORD, you simply pick your root note, then go up 3 notes from that note, then go up 4 more notes from your second note to get your third note! For example, an E Minor Chord is EGB. To get that, you'd start from E, go up 3 semitones/notes to G, then go up 4 semitones/notes from G to B.
Now that you know how to create chords, you can use those chords to create Chord Progressions! Music Theory defines Chord Progressions as going from one chord to the next in a progression.
To create chord progressions, just take chords from the key that you're writing in, and experiment! Use the I (1) Chord and then go to the V (5) chord! See what happens!
Chord progressions are what MOVES a song and causes it to PROGRESS! Knowing this kind of Music Theory will really help your songwriting!
Some genres of music don't really have that much progression but even in those genres, using chords is a good thing!
Music Theory is often hard for beginners, but don't worry! Everyone is a beginner at first! It just takes practice!
