Your attention to detail makes this one of the best how to videos I've seen.
Thank you Brian very much for noticing the hard work that goes into these videos. Make sure to subscribe
This was a FANTASTIC video. You got to the point AND did the work. Usually most car repair videos do one and not the other.
Much appreciated Bryan.....I feel the video just needs to be about the repair and also to make it appealing to the eye by not shaking the camera....not holding it right....etc. I try to give exactly what you want and not waste your time. Thanks again and make sure to subscribe!

I'm currently rebuilding the motor on my brother's '11 journey and have found that I am one of the few home mechanics to have worked on this motor. Haines doesn't have a repair manual for this vehicle so I've had to work to the best of my knowledge. I would have missed the bleeding step if I had not seen this video, so thank you sir. you've been very helpful.
Your welcome! I hope to do more videos on the 3.6 in the near future if I can ever get my hands on a complete engine to film. Thanks for finding the video and for watching. Make sure to subscribe and check out my other 3.6 videos.
I know I'm a little late. But there's a manual for the 2011 grand caravan that covers this motor. Not sure if you have the 62te tranny to though but it helped me.
This should be the exact same engine as the 2014 Journey SXT w/3.6L engine right? I believe the 2010 is the older 3.5L engine which is pretty different from ours.
I noticed the pink stuff splattered in the engine bay when I replaced my air intake. Was worried it might be the water pump after reading its a common issue. No longer worried after seeing this video. Thanks so much for doing this. 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for finding the channel and video. Glad that it helped out with your issue. Appreciate the comment as well and make sure to subscribe
Thanks for the tip about the spacers on the long 10 mm bolts. Don't think I would've noticed the two that stuck in the old pump. Really appreciate your video!
David, I just discovered your videos and-you are freaking awesome! You have obviously done this work often, made the mistakes I would make and overlooked the things I would overlook so that your instruction is all meat, no fat. Your videos set the bar pretty high, and they're exactly what I need to keep my high-mile 2014 Grand Caravan on the road and out of the repair shop. Thanks for your hard work and clear direction!
Glad that I can help out and that the videos are appreciated. Thanks for reaching out and for following the channel Lee!
Great video, keep posting them. Just replaced my Jeep JK 2012 3.6 water pump last night. The lower hoses that attach to the water pump were almost impossible to remove, took me over an hour. Everything else went like clockwork. Hopefully this will end the annoying whining electric type noise I have dealt with over a year
Just did mine last week. used wd40 and a small flat head screw driver to break the seal to get them off.
I’ve got a 2012 Wrangler that I’m getting ready to tear into. I’ve had the hose off before and it was a PITA. MCM’s videos are my first place to visit before tackling a project. One thing to note with those of us with Wranglers is that the accessory mountings are different - they put the alternator up top to clear high water crossings, because many of us are absolutely nuts (myself included). I had to take the alternator loose when I replaced the idler pulley that mounts to the water pump, and I’m planning on taking it off yet again.
I am 68 year old and been working on cars 60 of them, very good video.
Still a great tutorial for my 3.6 v6. Will give it a shot!
Super well done video to watch even if you've done it before. Easy to forget about the spacers. Thanks!
Your welcome and thank you Jeff for the comment and for watching. Make sure to subscribe.
Great video I've been apprehensive on doing the water pump on my 2013 Jeep Wrangler for a few days cause I wasn't sure what it may involve. I've been looking high and low for a "how to" video and this helped me out. Thank you MCM.
Thats awesome! If you take your time you wont have any issues. I think I went over pretty much everything so you should be set. Thanks for finding the video and for the comment. Make sure to subscribe and check out my other videos....I have plenty more that cover your vehicle
Thanks for taking the time to video this! Very helpful.

Now thats a savings for sure......Thanks for finding this video and for the comment. Make sure to subscribe.
Excellent video with great detail, especially when showing the bolt locations since they are not all the same. One point I would like to make. It looks like you are working on a RWD setup. I am currently working on a Promaster 1500 which is the same engine except FWD. Where this makes a difference is where you show the vacuum pump on this setup is where the engine mount is on the FWD setup. I did have to support the engine with a jack and loosen (not remove) the engine mounting bolts to give the mount enough play to get it out of the way. Again, excellent detail in your video.
Old video new comment, but great video. Very easy to follow and good information. Helped a ton. Thank you
Thanks for finding and for watching the video Courtney. I greatly appreciate the feedback as well. Make sure to subscribe if you havent already.

thanks, great write up!
Thanks Jason. Always appreciate the feedback. Make sure to subscribe and have a great weekend.
MotorCity Mechanic not sure if this was covered but for the JKU you have to remove the alternator and alternator bracket (just found that out). Everything else was spot on.
Jason Belch Yeah I didn't mention those steps on the JK. Thanks for pointing out those added steps. Much appreciated and make sure to subscribe
Awesome video, super helpful!

Ugh! This was so hard to find on UA-cam! Water pump and water pump gasket replaced!
Man they made the 3.6 a lot easier to work on than the old 3.5 LH design engine. the 3.5 can be tough due to the location of the water pump
sicc Tv there are some things easier and some a bit more difficult. As far as water pump......yeah, much easier for sure. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe
@@MotorCityMechanic will do bro! good job on the vids!

Great video!!
Thankyou for the informative videos. Keep up the great work
Change the plastic coolant crossover that's behind the water pump while you've got it free. They make Replacements in aluminum that last a lot longer than that plastic one will last.
That's 96 in pounds
Great video sir, you always do your thing.
Thanks Walter! Appreciate the support and motivation.
Great Video thanks a lot.....

what labour time for the replacement ???
what does warrnty pay ?
what does cp pay ?
Hello Motor City Mechanic. I have been tracking down an overheating problem on a friends 2012 jeep grand cherokee for months. It will be fine for a week and then overheat to 260 plus. I replaced the fan, the thermostat, the coolant and bled the system. I cant figure out why it is so intermittent. Could the heads or water pump be the culprit?? liked and subscribed thanks you.
I have a 2013 charger 3.6l sxt I was wondering if you had a video on replacing the harmonic balancer.
I dont at this time. I will add it to the future list of videos to make.
Ok cool thanks
Your welcome
Is there a torch sequencing for the water pump bolts
Have you done any head removals on the 3.6 charger? I have to do my head gaskets to change to ARP head studs but the only think stopping me is how limited the access is to the drivers side exhaust manifold bolts. especially the lower 2. Have you dealt with these bolts yet???
If my water pump went out on the 3.6 charger it’ll build pressure correct and overfill my reservoir right me and my husband are trying to figure it out we change the coolant sensor, thermostat, now the water pump
Hey Thanks for the awesome How-To! Can you talk about the proper coolant to use? Mine is the orange type? Also heard the all type coolants will gel up?
Its going to depend on the year of the vehicle. Let me know the year and I will let you know the exact coolant you need to be using.
Great video, very helpful, what is the torque spec for the 13mm and 16mm bolts?
+Scott Lachowicz The 13mm is 17ft/lbs and the 16mm is 37 ft/lbs. Thanks for the question and make sure to subscribe
Great video...so just the 10mm are torque 8ft lbs??
Great video, when using the bleeder screw , should the car be running??
thanks
You saved my ass! 🤣👍👍👍👍👍
Glad I could help. Appreciate you watching Matt and make sure to subscribe.
When bleeding air out is the engine supposed to running or off??
I always bleed the air with the engine off. Thanks for asking and for watching Joshua. Make sure to subscribe.
Was just going to ask this! Glad to see this was answered! Off to do my water pump!
cool
Thanks. Make sure to subscribe and share the videos.
Your da man!
Is there a coolant air bleed on Jeep Gladiator?
Thanks for the video! On a wrangler is the alternator in the way of removing the water pump? I know it's mounted in a different, higher location then your SUV here.
Also, that vacuum pump you move out of the way, appears to be the same one that's found mounted behind the bumper in a JK. Anyone who has installed an aftermarket bumper will recognize it for sure.
+GBR080R Thanks. The alternator is mounted where the vacuum pump would be on other vehicles. An the alternator is mounted backwards as well. The service info makes no mention of removing the alternator. I haven't done one on a jeep wrangler as of yet so I am not sure which route I would go. the alternator takes up so much real estate under the hood where you will be working that I would remove it to make things easier. Thanks for the question and for watching. Make sure to subscribe if you haven't already.
@@MotorCityMechanic I am looking at this job right now. Removing the alternator would give more room to get access to the bleeder screw on the thermostat as its directly above it. Also the wrangler uses a piston for the idler pulley system so you need a big half inch beaker bar for leverage to get the belt off.
@@roynorman513 In all these years I dont think I have had to replace one on a wrangler....we did a few on other cars when they first came out but for the most part they have been holding up great. Yeah that piston requires some force to get it started for sure.
@@MotorCityMechanic Its easy to do. I flushed the rad/block and switched out the mopar OAT purple coolant to the generic HOAT one (orange). up in canada that purple stuff is $60 cdn VS the $20 cdn orange stuff. getting more stable temps now.
Hello. I has 2012 200 3.6. It is overheating! I have changed radiator, T-stat and flushed engine before new radiator installation. Coolant was in good shape, no corrosion! I may change water pump? Not sure what to do? Dans run as should too! It boils over after 10 miles. Are these engines known for head gasket issues?
Head gaskets dont fail anymore.....the head will warp first before anything will ever happen to the gasket because its a multi-layered steel gasket (metal). This could be a cause and effect. You may have addressed the original concern that caused the overheating but the effect may be that it had ran hot too much or too many times and now damaged something or warped the head as I mentioned. I recommend having a test performed that checks for combustion gases in the coolant or a cylinder leak down test performed to see if pressure is being lost into the coolant system. Thanks for asking and for watching,.
Do the OEM water pumps have a plastic impeller?
Do you bleed it with the engine on? Thanks
I have a 2012 dodge Grand Caravan with a 3.6 liter pentastar. I am planning on flushing the coolant system with distilled water, then using HOAT Zerex G-05 antifreeze/distilled water mix for the refill. I have a Haynes manual that says to drain the block using 2 drain plugs on each side of the engine just above the oil pan. Could you show where these drain plugs are located? Thanks
I had my water pump replaced on my 2013 (3.6L) Jeep Wrangler. Today, I crawled under to try to figure out what has been clunking around for so long. I found one of the longer 10mm bolts completely loose... barely in the threads at all. My question is... With a 2013 Jeep Wrangler what if anything else besides the idler pulley and that other piece... I forget right now.... is loosened or removed to gain access to the water pump? I'm hoping something was left loose and that is what I am hearing clunking around... Thank you very much in advance. Great Video.. I'm going to check out some of your others just because.
***** I checked and from what I was reading, there doesnt seem to be much difference. Once you remove the air inlet, everything else should be pretty much the same process. Make sure to subscribe when you get time if you havent already
2011 Durango 3.6L: I just had a new radiator put in. Old one cracked. But, before I found the crack, I was hearing a sloshing sound in the heater core. Then finally the crack turned into a spewing radiator. New radiator in and drove it today. Eventually I have the sloshing sound back. What's going on? I checked the bleeder and it immediately pours coolant out. Any ideas? Extra info. I have had the #2 Cylinder Misfire for at least 50,000 miles. But, it has never given me any issues other than shaky idle and of course, I can't use remote start.
Sounds like air in the system. I would recheck the level over the next few days when its cold and bleed it again if needed to see if you can get some of that air out of the system. Remote starts will not work if there is a check engine light or code present and that can explain whey that doesnt work. Thanks for commenting and make sure to subscribe.
Whats the tightening number sequence?? Or it dosent matter
My engine keeps overheating I did use the bleed screw, any suggestions?
Did you find out the problem
2016 jku. Thermostat replaced air bleed out. Radiator power washed and fluid changed still runs hot under engine load. Out side temp does not matter. Any advice or direction on maybe why.
remove the air intake box system then Clean your rad on the inside with hot soapy water then rinse with pressure hose . I did mine at a DYS carwash.
When should the pump be changed?
Do you need to use sealer on the gasket?
Did you change the thermostat at the same
Time as the pump?
My 2017 Jeep GC's does NOT have a bleeder screw. Can you verify this is correct for all 2017 Pentastar thermostats?
To followup on last comment, I let out all the air by running my GC on a slight incline until all the air bubbles stopped forming in the spill free funnel. Took about 20 minutes before hitting approximately 220F degrees, before she let out a huge burst of bubbles, slightly overspilling before leveling off. She runs cool now. Your thoughts?
How many miles does a typical average 3.6L Pentistar water pump last?
I havent replaced one in about 2-3 years. For the most part they are not common to fail and last a long time.
@@MotorCityMechanic Thanks nice to know I have two of those 3.6L a 2012 with 78 K and a 2018 with 11k.
@@robc8468 Your welcome!
I finally replaced mine, and I’m a hair under 250k.
How long did the OEM pump last?
Is this the same setup for 2013 chrysler 200 ? Thank you in advance
For the most part it is. Difference will be that its FWD so it will be tight in places to get to the bolts but they will be laid out the same as in the video. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe
MotorCity Mechanic subscribed! Thanks again
Your welcome and thank you!
Is it a plastic impeller ?
Its a composite material. Never had any issues with the impeller itself. They hold up great. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.
Hello I have a 2013 dodge charger 3.6 L V6 and I was just wondering if you could let me know where the thermostat housing is located? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks
good morning, thanks for taking time to comment and ask questions. In the video you see where I am bleeding the air out of the coolant system. That bleed screw is on the thermostat housing. make sure to subscribe
So let me ask a Mopar expert. I have a chrysler 300 2014. I have changed the waterpump, thermostat, fan and radiator. It's still heating up after 40 minutes of driving on the highway. What else could it be?
Bad head
You said 8 ft pounds for the smaller 10 mm bolts, what are the torque specs for the other bigger bolts
I called the dealer and they told me 41ft pound for the 10mm.
I'm glad I didn't listen.
do you nees to turn heater on when bleeding cooling system
You dont......actually the engine needs to be off and the coolant cold. Open bleeder.....add coolant until it comes out bleeder. Tighten the bleeder. Then just adjust the level in the pressure tank. Thanks for the question. Dont forget to subscribe if you havent already
how to bleed the enginecoolan system
+chicho The video actually shows bleeding the coolant system around 7:20 on the video. That being a 3.6 engine

Is this a 2014 model?
It pretty much applies to all 3.2 and 3.6 engines. Nothing much as changed over the years
