Hi, Do you leave the Ziploc bag open when you take the bag out of fridge for seed to germinate?

Good question. I did not. They rooted once outta the fridge in about a week to two weeks. You want the humidity and sunlight.

God bless you patient people, making our environment more livable and promoting healthy lifestyles. Paw paws are painstakingly slow growing trees. Have a three year old tree, finally bloomed, not giving fruit and grown only 1 cm a year. I need to learn from you to be more relaxed with this plant.

You and me both. It’s true they are slow growing. They like lots of rich compost and regular water. Oh and be patient when growing from seed. They will sprout. This is my all I now about pawpaws. I have forty eight seeds coming soon so videos to come. Cheers

I tried to germinate pawpaw seeds last year. I followed guidelines posted online and after stratification, I tried to germinate 30 seeds in paper towel in mid-January. I gave them FOUR months and not a single one germinated, so I gave up. Rather than throwing the seeds away, I figured that I'd just bury them, in case a miracle happened. Buried in mid May and in early October, one of them popped through the soil. Just using the word "patience" is not enough. I'd say "infinite patience" is more fitting.

That is good information, Curtis, and so true. I had paw paw seeds in a fridge for over a year, and they did not sprout. A year and a half later, I thought for sure they were dead, but they all sprouted. Shade, the first few years is key. Good luck with them.

Great information Curtis! Of the 9 germinated PawPaw seeds I planted 4 are starting to show leaves above the soil. 🌱

Well thank you Curtis, I’d never heard of a pawpaw before, I learned something new today from you. They’re said to have fruit eaten by Native Americans! Needs 2 different ones to pollinate. Looked them up in Google. Enjoyed your video, good luck with your seeds 😊

How do you go about getting labels printed for your treetainers? They look good.

Honestly. I went to a dollar store to get my plastic labels. I didn’t like them because the marker would wear off. I made some stainless steel
Tags at work which etches it into the mental. Mostly now it’s from memory or I use a white paint marker from Canadian tire. I am the worst when it comes to labeling anything lol. If I had more time I would burn it into a small piece of wood. Cheers

what if you put them in an area that is always covered by shade ie under a tree | like will still pass through slightly, but not alot | when I found them in the forest they were surrounded by other trees

Great video. We have paw paw seeds potted in our basement greenhouse. You mentioned they can handle the cold, but will they do better in warmth? ie: on a heating pad?

Not going to grow paw paws, but information is good for other species as well, especially care of tap root... BTW... Back when I was in school, 19/20 came out to 95% 😉😆

I've heard so much about pawpaws, I've never seen or tasted one, I would love to grow them! What is the appropriate climate! I'm in zone 8A.

Can you recommend a place to purchase seeds from?

    • @branchingoutpermaculturewi4766

Really depends on what kind of seeds. I get them everywhere and anywhere. I use market place and Amazon a lot. I frequent ed cardillos in mount hope Ontario. Vegetable seeds I save some and or get them from Canadian tire or grocery store off those seed stands. I collect allot right from my farm. Sorry that’s not much help. Good luck let me know what you find. Cheers
