XO! SO happy to help Melanie!! Im sure you already know, but just in case, cetyl and cetearyl alcohols are coconut derived! So if you're allergic, you'll want to avoid those products too! 💗💗💗

So glad that you are showing products without coconut oil because they are very hard to find. I am also allergic to shea butter and most products have that in them. I spend more time reading labels than shopping. The struggle is so real.

The struggle is real! I am allergic to coconut, almond, grape seed etc. finding products without these is hard as hell! I use olive oil and avocado oil and black Jamaican castor oil. Hair is in good condition but I'm interested in hearing about products without the stuff I'm allergic to!

Hey Guys!! Still pretty new at this no-coco oil regimen, but the top question from my last video was, "So, what are you using now!?" So I grabbed all the items that I've liked so far, since I stopped using coconut oil, and I'm showing you in this video! Not all of these are staples, but they're things that have worked well! I hope it helps!! Xo!! 💗

it's too bad that shea moisture doesn't have more products that do not contain coconut oil. They really should think about tapping into that market. They have so many lines already , what's a few more lines that don't contain coconut oil.

Been watching you for a while now, so glad you highlighted the Camille Rose, and Almond oil replacement...these have been game changing hair improvements for me.
I joined the non-coconut oil regime after I noticed extreme itching after about a week or so of twists. And once I switched over to the almond oil and Camille products...my hair has literally never been the same. Almost no shedding, not tangles, and a softness for weeks.
Thanks for the years of knowledge .

Hey, Whitney! I just want to say thank you for all of your videos! I've been following you for just over a year now and have learned so much. I really had no clue how to look after my hair and just thought that it wasn't capable of growing, so I never paid attention to it. A friend introduced me to your channel and I have to say, my mind was blown! I now make all of my own products, try new protective styles, and for the first time in my life, my hair is shoulder length. Overall, I just love how healthy it is. So, again, thank you for sharing your knowledge. 😊

What about a treatment, preferably diy, to treat an inflamed scalp. I have multiple allergies. Luckily for me, I can still use coconut oils sparingly, but I'm allergic to most nuts. I'm also allergic to panthenol, which is in a lot of products.
Growing up, I couldn't grow my hair at all because of allergies. My mom would buy products that I couldn't use because my hair was brittle and my scalp so irritated! A few years ago, I started watching many hair journey videos, especially yours, and learned products and routines I could use for my hair and skin and what a difference it has made! My hair is pass my shoulders. It is still fine, but thicker at the roots. I require little to no heat and manipulation or my ends will break. It has been a journey, but I am grateful to you and the other ladies for directing me with these videos.

Weird, the tea tingle doesn't work on my hair, it's a matted mess when I use, I think the tea and mint is too astringent and drying for my hair... The Shea moisture deep treatment also was not impressive, it worked great for me as a leave-in.. But looking to check out the other products...nice to see you and your hair is lovely!

    • @design401
      @design401 8 років тому

I use the Shea moisture deep treatment masque everyday.... Its really good if you need moisture. Like she said if you want if for a detangler then you will need to use something else with it. I use it for the moisture and it helps define my 4c twist outs better.... I also really brings out a curl pattern when mixed with the Eco styling gel... Some of the product really just depend on the result you are looking for. I don't really care about the detangling.... Its not worth it for 4c hair....you just loose to much hair.

Hate to break it to most of you but if you are using most of these products on Napturals list, you are NOT coconut or coconut oil free. A LOT of the products contain Cocoamidopropyl Betaine, cetyl and or cetearyl alcohol with are produced mainly from coconut , vegetable and or palm oils. Most makes of natural products use the coconut derivative as it is the cheaper of the 3 . Thanks

  • @jeanetteturner6908
    @jeanetteturner6908 5 років тому +13

Most of the products you recommended have these two ingredients in them Cocamidopropylamine oxide and Cocamidopropyl Betaine and are also derived from coconut oil. If an ingredient begins with coca it's coconut oil based.

I know this is a very late response but I just saw this due to looking for a shampoo without coconut oil in it. It amazes me how many people don't know or just haven't done enough research to know that coconut oil comes in thousands of different names and forms. As you stated, all the products she recommended have coconut oil in them. I even had a dermatologist prescribe an ointment for me that had Cocamidopropyl Betaine in it after I told her I can't use coconut oil, claiming she didn't know that this was coconut oil. SMH and thank you for your response because I really didn't want to be the only one to tell her to do the research before suggesting products to people who might be allergic to coconut oil.

Hmmm....this is why we should do our own research, maybe. What's good for one person, isn't necessarily great for another. This can be prevalent in the UA-cam community. Just saying.

For others struggling with sulphate/coconut oil intolerance, I have compiled a list of shampoos I am going to experiment with to see if I can find my holy grail. Ever since CON changed their argan oil shampoo formula I have been at a loss. So far these are my options:
*KeraCare 1st Lather Shampoo / Keracare Hydrating & Detangling Shampoo (mild sulphates and coconut derivatives in the first 5 ingredients)
*Elucence Moisturise Benefits Shampoo (only coconut derivatives not in the first 5 ingredients / mild sulphates also not in the first 5 ingredients)
*Theraneem Gentle Therape / Theraneem Scalp Therapy Shampoo (only coconut derivatives not in the first 5 ingredients / mild sulphates also not in the first 5 ingredients)
I am only listing these here because I trawled through many a forum and blog to find potentials to replace my CON and I wish someone had given me these options earlier. I bought the AMIKA shampoo listed even though I know that the second ingredient in it is a harsh sulphate and after the drama I had with CON Red Clover Soothing Scalp shampoo which has a chockful of sulphates I said nah not me. Not today. I can vouch for the AMIKA Triple RX Mask though which Naptural recommended. Love the stuff!
Tried the Keracare shampoos together yesterday very gentle on the scalp will let you know how I get on!

I think I'm going to try out some of these products. I use coconut oil for EVERYTHING hair related and I never really paid attention to the fact that my scalp would be extremely irritated after applying coconut oil. It would be so itchy and burning that I would scratch to the point where it almost bled and I couldn't pin point why. I put some coconut oil on my scalp the other day and I finally figured out what was causing my scalp irritation. Thanks for the videos because they opened my eyes.

Thanks so much for this and the previous video! I have been going through the exact same thing since I decided to start wearing hijab earlier this year. The levels of exposure to and moisture in my hair had changed shortly after and coconut went from being my hair's best friend to worst nightmare. I kind of figured it had something to do with the oil, but your previous video definitely confirmed it. So informative. Thanks, Whitney!

Gf is alergic to coconut oil and it is actually super hard to find shampoos and body washes with out it. Any that would be coconut free would be cool if you have any suggestions. Not sure if it's all coconut or not so the dirivitives may not work. Great video!

just wanted to give you a suggestion when using the SM Deep treatment masque. I didn't like it either when I first started using it. that line is pretty thick actually. BUT my fellow non coconut users, if you add SM olive and green tea bath, body, and massage oil the slip in the mask is off the chain! Any olive oil helps but I like using the body oil because it's all natural and there are 5 oils in one. With vitamin E and tea tree. I know it may sound crazy but that is the only way I can use the masque and my kinky hair loves it. I hope you try this out. 😊

My hair hates coconut oil too. I just checked the products I have been using lately and I thought I would share them because my hair loves them.
The conditioner I use is by Petal Fresh Pure. It's their Anti-Frizz Lavender conditioner. It does have derivatives of coconut oil but no straight coconut oil. When I put it on my hair it basically melts the knots away and defines my curls. Great slip and you can just run your fingers through your hair. On the back it mentions that it's good for coarse textures.
The deep treatment mask I use is by Topganic. I use the Argan oil one for dry & colored hair. It has no coconut oil or derivatives in it. This is another conditioner that melts knots away and has amazing slip. It also leaves your hair really soft and moisturized.
By the way my texture is similar to Whitney's hair. These two products have been a blessing for me. I got them at HEB in Houston, Tx. Not sure why they might be sold in states that don't have HEB. Could probably get them on Amazon.

It's just what *I've* always said, and to hear someone say it differently (I repeat) made me smile!" Have you ever used any "Mixed Chicks" products?

Hey I truly appreciated this video! I've been struggling to find products every since I figured out I was sensitive to coconut oil. My only question is what do you use to moisturize DAILY, I feel like everyone always talked about what they use for wash and goes but not how they keep their hair moisturized every day. Thank you!!!!!

Can't wait to see more product reviews that do not contain Coconut. I prefer a crunchy gel or cream myself that can be scrunched out. Problem is finding one that adds body, movement, and volume. Aussie Volume is a great example but the ingredients are questionable and it's best used occasionally instead of a "go to". Thanks for the recommendations. [3b/3c High Porosity]

Nice video. I need a leave-in that doesn't have coconut oil, glycerin or aloe vera for the winter. This is so hard to find. The ones I find have isopropyl alcohol in them. If you run across anything like that please post. Thanks.

Hey Whitney, the Silk Elements Pure Oils line is really nice. The leave in is very light weight but moisturizing, the butter to me is more like a light weight Shea butter mix and the marmalade has that flax seed type of look and feel and it's very concentrated. I haven't use the line on my hair but I use it on my daughters type 4 fine hair and this is the first time in a whole that her hair hasn't been dry.

Antoinette Minor me too! The struggle is real. I didn't realize macadamia oil and sweet almond oil were in everything. I took 10 hair and skin items after Christmas because of that. My head was so itchy that I was washing it every 3 days. DIY may be the way to go but I don't really have time.

My hair used to love coconut oil. It was be soft and manageable but now it just sits on my hair and does not absorb. just end up with greasy hard hair. I just ordered some new products that will hopefully help my hair. I used the Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus line for years and now I can't. Thanks for the info. Nice to know I'm not the only one. ☺

Although I'm a little weary of new products, after my own coconut oil disaster, I still like to check out them out. I prefer diy but store bought is great for times when I'm too busy to be a mixologist. I've seen the Ouidad products & they are too expensive, at least in Canada. I seen so many products that you mentioned, that I've wanted to try but they double & triple the price in Canada. Thanks for the info. 😊

    Love you Whitney!
Ive recently just kind of fallen out of love with coconut oil anyway. Id been using a coconut conditioner that was just ok, not great, and then a few weeks ago I ended up trying an argan oil conditioner for my cowashing instead, and its been like magic for my hair. Soft, silky, manageable hair that holds its curl pattern and hangs well because im also only cowashing now and using an easy olive oil sealer i still have left over. I think argan might be that magic oil everyone's looking for. I couldnt recommend it more.

First I must say great video!!!😃 I also have to tell you that I've made your Black Soap for myself and for friends and family, and they love it!!! They're trying to get me to sell it, but I will not for two reasons. For starters it's not my recipe, and that sounds like too much work,(I'm married with three children all under ten years old, in which two are girls with long full hair, I have one on the way, and I work. Ain't nobody got time for that. Lol😂😂😂, but I will continue to make it because I like making things when I have the time. Thanks to you I love Cupuacu Butter! I want to know how you store your Mango and Cupuacu Butter recipe. I plan to make this for friends as well. Once again I thank you soooo much for your videos. Keep up the good work!!!😉
