It's fascinating how body chemistry, like thyroid function and nutrient levels, can play such a crucial role in ADHD symptoms. I never realized the impact that hormones and even gut health could have on focus and energy levels. This holistic approach makes so much sense-it's definitely something I'll be looking into more for my own ADHD management. Thanks for sharing such valuable insights!

I think we can all agree that nutrition definitely impacts ADHD symptoms. BUT as others have already stated, ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder affecting the executive function of the brain. It is NOT just something caused by poor nutrition. Some folks may be able to improve the impact of ADHD symptoms through nutritional changes, but I feel like telling people they can “fix” their ADHD is irresponsible. It is a life disrupting disorder, especially when paired with other comorbidities. I would love it if people would stop saying we are broken and need to be “fixed”. We need functional coping mechanisms, understanding, and support… and good nutrition IS important. Let’s encourage and help each other rather than reinforcing the idea of “brokenness” that we ADHD folks already feel so deeply.

While I get where you're coming from, it's important to note that the cause of ADHD is not concretely and precisely determined. With it being a "neurodevelopmental disorder" it affects the development of the nervous system but this does not imply that it is not caused by nutrition (at least in part) . Outside of this, I agree though with what you're saying. But we may discover in time that a sub-population of individuals who have ADHD may have it purely caused by nutrition, where as others maybe via a different mechanism that each independently affect the same circuitry. Good message thoughtful comment though!

from what i gather ADHD is from a brain/nervous system development issue. meaning it is a physical problem not a mental problem. it would appear that the brain development can be both in the womb and after as a child develops. if you are born with the physical deficient development of the pre frontal cortex then you are screwed from the get go. however if you are born normal, during development if a child is functioning under the fight or flight portion of the brain then the executive function portion(frontal cortex) never develops as it should. which is what happens as a child develops into their teen years. so this may help the symptoms but you will never fix the problem unless you have a way to produce brain tissue.

ADHD should not be viewed as a problem that needs fixing; it is a different way of functioning. It is disheartening to hear otherwise, especially from a medical professional who also has ADHD.
Numerous studies and systematic reviews provide a clear understanding of what ADHD truly entails, including insights into its underlying causes.
While you mentioned several beneficial strategies that can indeed support individuals with ADHD, it’s important to recognize that these approaches can be advantageous for everyone, not just those with ADHD.

It's interesting that hormones play such a big part in ADHD. I read an article on Additude mag that linked ADHD, PCOS and Diabetes (Type 2).

If you take care of your biome, eat good, sleep good, daily exercise like a madman, ADHD is a superpower. The worst part is that you wish everybody else had what you have. It is like being the main character in the "giver" the only one who knows color in a black and white world.

Human variability being what it is, do you have a way to stack these in order of likelihood? Let’s say thyroid issues are present in 70% of ADD/ADHD/VAST sufferers, so that is #1. Low levels of supplementables is present in 60%, so #2. Liver issues 40%, etc. And they may be comorbid (I wish there was a less morbid term) so doing #1 and #2 could cover a large portion. Obviously, testing is the best way but if testing is out this could be a help. I found I needed D3 supplementation for knee pain by trying D3 not by testing.

In my personal experience, nutrients help, right, but it's just less worse. It doesn't heal "my" ADHD at all. Even with a healthy diet, the best nutrient complements, knowleddge acquired by a wonderful FM Alexander tecnique teacher, a life outdoor, I still forget daily very important thing, I still struggle with fatigue, lack of wish or too much enthusiast, I function only with momentum, and I am clumsy clumsy clumsy :) To balance hormone as much as possible is a MUST. But it doesn't not do everything.
I am not a doctor, but I am not sure that your patient had really ADHD... maybe they were just constantly living with a lack of D vitamin. Blood test say that I have no lack of nothing...
    So... I must still explore.

I dont think he actually is stating these remedies can cure adhd all though it does come across that way. He is simply stating that these may be contributing factors that can lessen symptoms or maybe even that it is the cause of symptoms that could be mimicking adhd symptoms. Yes adhd isnt a disease it is apart of who you are but it doesnt have to go unmanaged. I think thats all he is stating. I know for sure having a blood test helped me, at least in terms of iron deficiency and vitamin D. I havent done the full blood work for the others yet but it has helped immensely boost my energy having an iron infusion and vit d suppliment. So i wouldnt disregard his information just because he states he is fixing it or that it is the problem. By problem i believe he is addressing the symptom not adhd itself. Perhaps he shouldn't have said fix and just simply stated eliviates the symptoms and helps manage adhd. Because even though i have more energy i still am prone to burnouts and becoming overwhelmed not to mention distracted. This memory thing i think is a big one for me. 😊 any information you can apply to benefit your life no matter what diagnosis or issue is always a plus. And instead of focusing on use of certain words one should just understand the basis of the entire content and take from it what you will. What you got to lose seems you only have something to gain. 😊
