The rising and descending choir at the beginning and end of the song mimic the circular orbit of the planets *Dark Matter: Dark Matter/Musical Scale. All these comments really are, literally making me love the album even more and I'm just beyond impressed. I feel like I didn't give it justice ha! Believe it or not, she made a video for Hollow, and I totally agree with you, it's so hard to connect to that song, but trust and believe, the video is gorgeous and fascinating.
You are not ready for Vulnicura 😭😭 One neat thing to keep in mind, the first six tracks are written about the end of her 15 year relationship and family with Matthew Barney (which Vespertine was the lovey-dovey beginning of, and which makes Vulnicura the dark melodramatic antithesis of that album). First three tracks are written close before they ended it, and the next three are written closely afterward. Harrowing stuff, can't wait!
@@bennshouts and she has said that Biophilia was her album to evade her love crisis, she involved herself so much in learning and working on the concept of the album, that you have read on other comments. In Vulnicura, she finally afronted that crisis, the end of her love.

She actually invented some instruments for this album/tour. Like the swinging pendulums, a gameleste and she used a tesla coil. Sadly its also the 1st album/tour where the vocal deterioration really kicks in. Im not a massive fan of this album but I do love cosmogony
I actually really like this album, it's in my top 5 at least. I think it's really cool, but sometimes it gets a bit too "abstract" and experimental for my taste, I prefer the songs that are a bit more melodic and more structured if that makes sense. My favorite songs are Moon, Thunderbolt, Chrystalline, Cosmogony and Mutual Core I think. I love the concept and the lyrics is in my opinion some of her best and her vocals are so powerful on this album. Björk always reminds me so much of Mother Nature.
your reactions are so genuine I LOVE it!! So glad I get to go through all the Björk reactions haha. Cosmogony is my fav, all the universe creation theories sung together really show how similar humans are even separated by thousands of years and vastly disconnected cultures. People are not lying when they say it was making the space around them shake cause lord you could definitely feel it in your bones lol. (watch?v=CO-Oml9URrg is a pretty dope recording!!)

I just came here to see your reaction to that sick beat drop in Mutual Core lol and I'm not disappointed! When you think about it, Biophilia is Björk's ultimate effort to connect nature with modern tech. I think it's is her simplest album in terms of instrumentation (ironically one of the weirdest). Not my top favorite but I still blast Mutual Core. I'd love to see you react to her Utopia album. It feels like listening to Lord of The Rings soundtrack on electronic steroids lol.
"Cosmogony" is my favourite, close tie with "Mutual Core" but especially it's "These New Puritans Remix Featuring Solomon Islands Song" version, which is sort of where "Medulla" and Biophilia meet. The link to it is here. ua-cam.com/video/b60bduU1C7s/v-deo.html
She makes everything for Biophilia: Instruments, app, DVD live... It's not the most underrated, but it is. I LOVE Moon, Thunderbolt, Cosmogony, Hollow, Mutual Core and Solstice(the harp made for this song appears in the DVD, the lightning instrument for Thunderbolt too). The next one it's the MASTERPIECE, one of the supremes: Vulnicura.
She started putting out loads of remixes again at this point, some lovely clear etched vinyl. They were alright, but the ones I feel really should have the spotlight are the Omar Souleyman remixes. They're just extraordinary, and here's a bit about his background just to try and tempt you to them further: "Souleyman has been living in Turkey since the start of the Syrian Civil War in 2011, which heavily impacted his home region. While in Turkey, Souleyman established a free bakery in the border town of Akçakale, in order to serve poor families from Turkey and Syria refugees. In November 2021, he was arrested on charges of terrorism, with the Turkish authorities alleging that he was a member of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Souleyman was released two days later"
This album is probably my least fav too, but it birthed Mutual Core, Moon, Crystalline, Cosmogony, and Thunderbolt. It's not a bad album, it's just less cohesive and less melodic than her others IMO. You should check out this little feature on the instruments used for the album: ua-cam.com/video/gRh-O5iLo80/v-deo.html It helps you appreciate the sounds that went into the album.
So you prefer Volta to this one? Interesting preference, no doubt. The only thing that brings Biophilia down for me, is the track, Hollow. I would love to have been a fly on the wall when she decided it was a good enough track to make public, let alone to be on a Bjork album. The rest of it is really good to great stuff, with songs like Moon, Thunderbolt, Crystalline, Cosmogony, Virus and Mutual Core (the best track imo), being among the best stuff to come out her brain, and onto a record. I will, however, concede that it doesn't really sound like a solid album on first listen, and it's so unfortunate that many will dismiss it for that reason. If you ask me, it's actually among the strongest records in her discography, it's just that it takes a few more listens to truly appreciate what she was aiming to express with this odd creature of a record.
I belive this is the Science album! For the first track, the beat was actually structured based on the phases of the moon! The entire albums production and lyrics were based on science and nature, it's a extremely complex album!
Dark matter and hollow are kinda interlude songs... you have to remember that the whole álbum is like a fable.. from beginning to end.. and songs like hollow helps to set the mood on the things that are happening in this fable. This song (hollow) is about the creation of our ancestors dna.. 10k..20k..30k years back. (Something like that hahahaha)
i have seen biophilia live twice and she has such a strong stage presence. cosmogony and solstice are absolute gorgeous and unique. the pendulum harp - or is it called gravity harp? - is never seen and heard before. i think it's the same with most of björks albums, they need some time to sink in until you realize all the details.
She was singing with polyps on her throat. Her last vocally impressive album. She used unusual time structures in this album cuz her friend took the piss fob her beat bpm's being always similar. The production on the album was given a last minute spit and polish by Leila Arab.
(Sorry for the long text🤣) Love Thunderbolt, Virus and Mutual Core from this album, and the concept as an album. Love to hear it while drawing and painting. I interpret Virus as a "love disease", literally. The lyrics, for me, could even be a bizarre, metaphorical romantization of HIV, or skin diseases. Needing and hurting the body more than loving it. Mutual Core is a favorite for me since it came out. It was one of the reasons that i studied Geology🤣 it inspired curiosity on me. It is about the earth plates as lovers. Have you read or heard about Pangaea or other supercontinents? The plates "move", so the continents, in cycles of million of years. As an example, America and Europa+Africa was once one. The landmasses will join together again, millions of years from now. The collide of plates is "the eruption that undoes stagnation", that produces volcanism, mountains, earthquakes. And they will go apart again. So, like this, the lovers (the continents) goes through the life as the song: apart, calm as the slow verses,. Then, suddenly they collide, passionately, liberating all the energy. And they will go apart again. Love, love that concept for the song. All the process of subduction (some form of collision of plates) is very sexual to me, as a plate goes under the other, penetrating under it, making that other arise volcanoes and "ejaculate" magma)
I agree Mutual Core is The best 🔥🔥🔥 also an Advice. Check The live versions she did for The tour, they are completely different it sound like reggaeton Mutual Core 🤣🤭
"Biophilia" is kind of the electronic equivalent of vocal based "Medulla," and therefore most definitely one of her technical best. It's odd to me how so many say that "Vulnicura" is so great and one of her best yet they'll trash "Biophilia," which is far superior (and less boring; in the sense that most of Vulnicura sounds the same, is very monotonous in places, and the songs on average are 3 to 4 minutes too long.. with subject matter that dark, it does well to pay more attention to song structure!). Biophilia also needs some time and attention; it was meant to be explored, hence the app and all the remixes. I suppose she went too full on science and math geek for those who want beep bop boop pop uncomplicated.
Agree to all of this! It still is an incredible album and I wouldn’t say its BAD, just not my favourite so far… her voice is incredible tho and some of the production is amazing! Like you said, its one to really explore and that in itself is exciting!
@@bennshouts it'll be fun, it's not a casual listen album. In another comment I linked a couple of remixes, they're well worth exploring. Biophilia had two sets of remixes, some EPs and Bastards collection, which is like Telegram, They're all on UA-cam, don't know about other places.
Big fan of bjork. But this album …. Crystalline , mutual core. The only 2 songs I love . What I really don’t like on this album is the instruments . And the absence of « harmony ». The song dark matter is the perfect example . What is that??? Bye bye biophilia . The idea of the concept is great. But if you remove the voice of bjork on this album….. this is not good. For me. Next : Vulnicura ^^ return to the source. Real music ^^
@@walkingwounded8675 he didnt lie. just cause it's her worst doesn't mean it's bad. biophilia is amazing piece of art but björk has many better and more revolutionary albums than biophilia.
The Greatest Show on Earth by Nightwish is about 30 minutes long and captures everything from the big bang to the first stage of evolution on land and beyond, its pretty cool... also has Richard Dawkins quoting himself in it ... Idk, if symphonic metal sounds like something intriguing and you haven't heard of them or the song yet. Tuomas the keyboardist and founder composes and writes everything, it's quite interesting.

Please check out the last Aurora's album called "The Gods We Can Touch"
Its up xx
vulnicura next omg 💔💔 its her heartbreak album so be ready for that, black lake is absolutely insane…
So keen!!
people don't like this album very much, but it's my favorite!
I love how everyone has different favourites!!!
I belive this is the Science album! For the first track, the beat was actually structured based on the phases of the moon! The entire albums production and lyrics were based on science and nature, it's a extremely complex album!
There’s also a teslacoil used on Thunderbolt I believe which is insane
Yep. this album just really proves how much of an icon she is.
I love Biophilia. My favorites are Moon, Virus, Crystalline, Mutual Core, and Solstice.
Utopia and Biophilia are my faves -tie with me
I knew you'd like Mutual Core!!
You should watch the video too
yesss, keen!!!
And also.. you have to remember that this álbum came out as an app álbum too.. with interactive data.. so you can understand it better
i have seen biophilia live twice and she has such a strong stage presence. cosmogony and solstice are absolute gorgeous and unique. the pendulum harp - or is it called gravity harp? - is never seen and heard before.
i think it's the same with most of björks albums, they need some time to sink in until you realize all the details.
Solstice is a live version
You should react to bjork bsides honestly some of my favorite songs by her are besides I can recommend some!
This is one of the albums u have to listen to it multiple times before u can really like it and understand it... But now i do both!
She was singing with polyps on her throat. Her last vocally impressive album. She used unusual time structures in this album cuz her friend took the piss fob her beat bpm's being always similar. The production on the album was given a last minute spit and polish by Leila Arab.
Utopia has her best vocals to date
So interesting! Thank you!
Would you react to If you want her by Maruv? I'd love be friends and interchange music.
The B on your wall stands for Benn & Björk! :)
HAHAH YESSSSSSS
Try Bastards, the remix version. I enjoy it a lot more. Omar Souleyman version of Crystalline is 💯🔥 also Death Grips on Sacrifice.
this is my favorite project from her 🌎
😍😍😍
one question. the tattoo on your arm seems to be a long text. what text is it?
Mutual core video. 😅🙌👻
Yesss, I need to get into her videos!
Least fav for me.. conceptually genius but the music just never transports me anywhere, you should have a look at the app tho
I agree Mutual Core is The best 🔥🔥🔥 also an Advice. Check The live versions she did for The tour, they are completely different it sound like reggaeton Mutual Core 🤣🤭
Ohhhh okay! Thank you!!!
Much better than Fossora 🎉
Biophilia for sure has my favorite björk vocals ever. Solstice showcases just how amazing her voice is.
Yes... THIS!!!
and i reccomend anna von hausswolff and her album "dead magic"
Please don’t forget Selmasongs
I won'tttttt
@@bennshouts well done well done x
@@bennshoutsGLING-GLO too! 🎹🥁🎙️🎶🎵🎼Jazz🥰😍🤩😭🙏🏻😢
Mutual core é incrível
❤❤❤❤
Moon é MUITO longa pra uma música linear, prefiro o Monn the slips Remix pq é mais animada
this project is for science people or enthusiasts, is complicated for the commoners to get, good try tho
I like your take on it!
This is her worst album ever!!
You’re white and male so your opinion is automatically shit
@@walkingwounded8675 he didnt lie. just cause it's her worst doesn't mean it's bad. biophilia is amazing piece of art but björk has many better and more revolutionary albums than biophilia.
Vulnicura and Utopia are next! They are my favorites, both produced by Arca!!
björk and coproduction by arca yesss
Vulnicura is such a masterpiece
This is my favorite Bjork album, but I have a soft spot for science in music
Favorite songs probably Thunderbolt, Crystalline, Sacrifice
The Greatest Show on Earth by Nightwish is about 30 minutes long and captures everything from the big bang to the first stage of evolution on land and beyond, its pretty cool... also has Richard Dawkins quoting himself in it ... Idk, if symphonic metal sounds like something intriguing and you haven't heard of them or the song yet. Tuomas the keyboardist and founder composes and writes everything, it's quite interesting.
I love that she put science in music... truly iconic
