Firstly I wanted to say thanks so much.This video is brilliant. I completed this job today and I dont think I would have finished it without watching this tutorial first.If you try this yourself some things must be done that are not mentioned here : 1 ..take the drivers seat out first 2..remove the lower instrument panel below the steering column. 3 When refitting the master cylinder you will struggle to hook the spring over the pedal.First hook the pedal into the spring. Tie a piece of wire to the steering wheel and join it to the pedal firmly so that you can lift the pedal assembly into the correct position with minimum force .This is the hardest part of the job .Lining up the pivot hole so you can position the bolt is difficult and requires perseverance. Dont give up ! 4..If you are as old as me ..55. make your life easier by putting a pillow over the cross member that you are lying on..helps improve morale 😂
Nice job! I respect people who take their time to help others to repair their older cars. I have a Fiesta mk5 2002. Today I am a lucky winner to find out my clutch is finished. Now I'm back on my bike till I get some money for the new clutch and for the repair man... lol .. Damn it.

As others have already said I am hugely grateful that you took the time to make and post this video. I had to do this job today on my daughters firsts mk5 57plate 1.2 petrol. This was the first and only video I looked at and I could not have done this without your help. Just to help others that use this video I can confirm on my daughters car I didn’t need to remove the 6 nuts that hold the clutch pedal to the fire wall. The cylinder housing was behind the plate but it came out easily enough. I also didn’t need to remove the clutch pedal either. Getting the spring back on is a sod but with a bit of wire around it to stretch it out and bend it upwards I could connect it to the cylinder housing. Relocating the housing into the locking tabs on the metal bracket took all my strength pulling against the spring but it got there in the end. I removed the lower part of dashboard at this point (6x Phillips screws) to help with visibility and light. Once again thank you for posting this. Much appreciated.
Thanks for uploading this, it was a real help. I have a 2005 1.2 fiesta and found that the clutch just bled by gravity, no need to pump the pedal. May have just got lucky! Thanks again.
Cracking Video.. and helped massively .. but for anyone having a go, be warned this is not a five-minute Job.. it's not difficult. but believe me it's a ball ache.. a Mechanic would charge a fortune for this, so it's worth having a go.. to make it easier i took the front seat out and removed the lower dash.. just to make it a little more accessible. it's really fiddly, as the steering column always seems to be in the way.. also get loads of light in there, as it is really dark

Just done mine on a petrol version,I kept the master cylinder top on which holds a vacuum in the reservoir so not much fluid drips out as I also removed the feed pipe from the reservoir and then the master cylinder before putting a bung on the reservoir pipe. Also removed the air filter box assembly and wiper scuttle panel for easier access. When your an old fossil like me it's easier to remove the drivers seat and get a small step box outside of the door to help support you as you lay inside. I only removed the pedal and the clutch switch to access the 2 10mm bolts in through the master cylinder before pushing the cylinder down off its clips and pulling it out. I drilled a 2mm hole in the pedal to master cylinder pivot pin so I could fit an R clip instead of the push on spire clip. I fitted the master cylinder in place with the spring upwards,then hooked the pedal into the spring,then pushed the pedal upwards to get the bolt in from right to left a short way in,fitted the cylinder to the pedal then aligned the pedal and finished putting the bolt through and tightening it up. Bit fidly but cheaper than paying a garage to do it. Make sure you buy at least half a litre of brake fluid aswell.
ive got the clutch pedal problem, how easy is it to push the master clyinder plastic back onto the rod so i can then put a grub screw on the end to stop it slipping off
Great video. I’ve got a 2003 fusion which is basically a fiesta. My clutch has been fine all along, then suddenly today the pedal was soft and ineffective. I immediately checked the peddle and master cylinder. No sign of leaks or broken or loose bits, clips etc. Had a look under the bonnet and I see the brake fluid is low. I believe the brakes and clutch are all in one hydraulic system...so hoping if I top it up I’m okay for now....of course, that’s dodgy cos I need to get to the bottom of the problem...why is the fluid low....
@tangomike If you can't see any obviously leak then there's a high chance you have a leaky brake cylinder in one of the rear brake drums. Worth a check as easiest, hard place to tackle and most common when it comes to brake fluid leaks.
AM Mods I topped up the brake fluid now as it was below minimum. Started the car and pumped brake and clutch a bit. No improvement...checked underneath. Now there is a puddle underneath the gearbox. Brake pedal seems fine. Only the clutch is soft.
If there is no fluid around the side of the gearbox and just from the bottom, it seems you may have a leaking clutch slave cylinder. (Disclaimer: I am not a mechanic or have any mechanical qualifications, I just advise on previous experience). But obviously not being able to see it myself I can only advise based on description. Hopefully this helps diagnose your issue

This is only my opinion, I wouldn't buy car parts from Amazon. Just a trust thing, I believe that you should buy parts from a reputable auto factors in your area or even online for example euro car parts or if.you can afford it your local ford dealer. You may find stuff cheaper on Amazon but there could be a reason. Hope this helps.
So I changed my master cylinder on my fiesta zetec 2007 and now the car over revvs every now and then when accelerating. This wasnt an issue before i changed the master cylinder. Anyone know what may have caused the problem?
In the video you said remove 6 bolts to remove entire pedals assembly then showed removing only the clutch pedal. Can the clutch pedal be removed just undoing the one bolt that holds it? Confused and need to do this job. Thanks.
The plate with the 6 bolts sits behind the pedals so not need to take the pedal itself off but the master cylinder is behind the plate, a very bad design from ford but unfortunately you have to undo all bolts to get enough room to remover the cylinder from behind it.
@@AMMods I have now completed this job and followed the manual as per what needs removing. Only needed to remove clutch pivot bolt and two bolts that retains the cylinder. Very awkward but doable. Refitting was the hardest getting the clutch pivot bolt back in with the spring causing high tension. The rest was straight forward including bleeding the system. Thanks.
I need help, the spring came of and I was wondering can I put it back somehow without taking of all of the parts? And how do I know if the cylinder is broken?
It is possible to get the spring back on with a screwdriver maybe or some angled pliers but it would be very difficult as it's a very tight spring. The most common problem with the cylinder is it just falling to the floor after half pressing it in. Or if you see fluid coming out of the rubber boot. Hope this helps. Cheers AM
Best way to tell is to see if fluid is coming out of the cylinder. You should be able to see it if you out your head under the dash and press the pedal a few times. This is why I changed mine in the video. Hope this helps.
@@AMMods mine stopped after I re attached arm to peddle with special locking nut it was slipping off, I got a bigger problem now lol clutch just went was gonna get the slave cylinder put in but can't afford that little extra its £50 extra on top of 170 labour and clutch kit 70 luk brand
Yes, sorry. It's a step I didn't record but we drained the fluid off using a syringe to get as much fluid out of the reservoir as we could. I wouldn't clamp the hoses unless they are rubber one's. There will be some left in the lines. Hope this helps. Thanks AM.
Hello great informative video, could you tell me what brake/clutch fluid you used as I cant find what type I have in my car, I herd that you cant mix DOT 4 and DOT 5, so I'm unsure what to use, also I don't have the owners manual and its not identified on the cap, please help. Many thanks.

Yes, pretty much the same method. Open the valve press the clutch down, close valve pedal off, repeat until no air bubbles. Hope this helps. Thanks

Does the fluid leak out when you unplug the pipes? Do you need to clamp them or something? Cheers

Hi, the fluid for both brakes and clutch is DOT 4. There's very few cars on the market currently that use DOT 5. Thanks
