Thanks for your hands on pantry organization. I am from Puerto Rico and in Sep 2017 we were hit ny hurricana Maria and we didnr have what needed to survive. We are now making all the changes we need but still is hard.
Hi from Australia. 🤗 Love this!! It's always so interesting to see what is in other people's storage and pantry! 😃 Food storage saved the day a few years ago when my hubby was without work for 5 months - we literally lived off of it. Thanks for sharing!
I definitely went thru the faze of having a stock pile just to have one or because it looked good on the shelfs. I was super good at extreme couponing and would buy things just to later on throw it away or donate it. Now I've learned it's only a good deal if we eat/use it. Good to know I wasn't the only one who did this.
I stockpile for only length of in between sales. My anxiety goes crazy with waste or things that aren't moving. I'm a huge saver but I try to stay smart with it. I know exactly what you are saying.
I don't know if you're interested Kimmy but I started using cloth sanitary pads (reusable washable ones) and they're fantastic - money saving and you're always prepared and they never run out!
I was about to leave the same suggestion! That way you dont have to keep buying the disposable ones you can just wash the cloth ones. You can make them yourself too. :)
I've always respected the Mormon faith for their prudence when it comes to keeping a food storage and being good stewards of their finances and possessions. Some of my favorite bloggers are Mormons! :)
I knew there was something special about you. You're a believer! That shows. I hope your family appreciates all that you do for them. There's not many people that put this kind of effort into making sure their family is taken care of the way you do. I wish I had things so well prepared like you. Again,I say thank you for sharing with us. God bless you and your family.
Thanks for explaining your food storage! I had always thought people's "stock piles" were related to extreme couponing (or obsessive hoarding), but now I realize there is more of a survival mindset. Seeing how prepared you are, I realize I am way too minimal in my food storage. Not sure how long we would survive on my little pantry - time to get on that! :)
+M egan Youe family wont regret it, right now the entire world isnt doing that good, and if something happens you wil lbe very happy if you atleast have 2 week supply of food, my family as a 1 year supply of food just in case.
Megan some people do coupon and go over board. But not every one. Mormans keep or teach to have emergency food for a year at least. Keeping stuff that has a long shelf life. Or canning food. But there are those who coupon and buy it cause it has a coupon and they can get it nearly free with coupons.
Their have been so many people who I personally know that have run into situations where their food storage has saved them because of one thing or another so it's definitely a good thing to have.
Our food storage has been such a blessing. When my husband lost his job, helped out my in-laws, and other family members (who we still can't convince to do a food storage). I would love to see more on your food storage and your survival bags. Also, have you thought about making your own BBQ sauce? You have everything you need right there in your pantry. Blessings to you and your family!!
The LDS church has it right. Back in the early 70s, I was aware of their food storage objective of a year. Now the preppers have embraced this, for various reasons. Prepping is nothing new. Good job!
I've known a lot of Mormons in my life, and I love the idea of storing food. My Great Grand and Grand Mother raised me with the idea to be prepared for anything. Both went through the depression and did instill a need in me to store food and any essentials I could use. My children are in the process of preparing for anything. Thanks for the videos.
Love this!! Thanks for sharing!! I have 1 shelf (like what you have) in my basement for can goods, condiments and things I have canned. Then next to that I have 3 bins labeled- pasta, baked goods and snacks. Then I have a small chest freezer we keep meats, my sliced pears from my parents tree, sliced apples from my friends land and pureed pumpkin we get after Halloween cheap (portioned for recipes that I bake throughout the winter). I have a sheet I keep in the kitchen with what I have down there. I have been shopping around for a stand up freezer because I hate digging down to the bottom and the door closes on me...lol!!
I love seeing what people have in their food storage and how they store it. I have a limited amount of space but in my case it helps me keep it organized and rotate through before it goes bad. I have 24lbs of rice and beans, over 30 canned meats, I like to keep 20lbs of pasta but I'm a little low. The rest is just extras of things we use regularly; canned vegs, tomatoes, fruits, beans, peanut butter, broth, cereal and condiments.
This is one of the best videos I have ever seen on food storage. It is certainly very motivating! Our family is not LDS but we do our own variation on food storage using space all around the house. I don't think we have a single room that doesn't have some kind of long term storage in it! It isn't at all the usual thing to do in the UK but it has been a sanity saver for me and we wouldn't be without it. Thank you so much for this video.
I want to thank you. You really just inspired me to start some larger food storage. I went out and bought $50 worth of canned vegetables and fruit and a few baking mixes. The government might shut down again at the end of the week. At least I will a months worth of veggies and some extra canned fruits. Also a few muffin boxes. If they don’t shut down, I can just use up the cans over time and replace them after I use them. I have always kept a fair amount of food but never really organized it enough to make sure it was well rounded. We have always eaten fresh and frozen veggies. But I started thinking I should get my family to eat some canned veggies so we can store some for long term storage.
I grew up fundamentalist southern baptist (I'm not anymore) and we had a stock like this for the same reason, but also in case the preacher was wrong and we had to live through the great tribulation in the book of revelation. I wish someone could sponsor you to get those can racks that rotate the first in, first out for you!! What a blessing you are to your family and community in case of great crisis. Wonderfully stocked and used.
Great info. It's so important for everyone to be prepared for anything. My grandmother used to shop Costco and she would have the whole family come over and shop in her storage since she had the most room. She wanted to make sure the family always had what they needed 😊
Hi! I am a new convert to the church and just recently started taking an interest in food storage as I learned about it. We don't have much, but every bit you have is better than nothing! I have packages of oats, rice, and canned goods like canned spaghetti and ravioli, etc. Also really important--i have some gallons of water. Water is essential and of top priority. I only have maybe 5 gallons so far, but again, it's better than nothing. There are other ways to store water too.
Great Food storage. I also stockpile. I coupon for a lot of things. We too have long term storage that I rotate. Let me tell you it saved us a few years back, My hubby had heart bypass and was out of work for a long while. Extra expense were killing our budget. Not having to grocery shop made one less thing to worry about. I wish more young people would follow your example an be prepared. It is the most loving thing you can do for your family.
Wow, that's a very excellent idea that you have of using those blue recycle bins with the white handles to keep your deep chest freezer organized. Brilliant!!!
I love your user-friendly approach to actually using your food room! I'm doing something similar, not stocking up or a year, but making sure to buy stamples on sale and shopping my food storage to save money. It's great when I ddicate the time to keep up with it.
Oh my goodness! My pantry set up we just put together looks just like this! Shelves on the left, one at the end, and unfinished wall on the right, lol!! Very excited to keep watching and see how you have the space set up!
Totally agree with your Food Storage reasoning (6 months to a year ). Be prepared is being SMART...Food Storage room idea is awesome idea also. I'm also couponer, which also allows me to stock up for a year in advance or more. The dry milk I need to add ASAP, so thanks for the tip! And yes, I'm a newbie to your channel.
Wow that's impressive. Inspired me to even make a pantry shelf in my walk in closet, at least on one side of the wall. Not a bedroom closet, its next to the kitchen. Seriously....those large storage pails of wheat and oats...wow...nice work.
Your food storage ideas are great. I'm a food hoarder but I don't have it organized. This video has inspired me to organize everything. Thank you for sharing.
Great video Kimmy...your food room looks amazing! I got a Costco membership after watching a lot of your videos. We like to stock up on meat, frozen veggies, milk, and produce. Then we go to Smiths and other stores and stock up on pantry items. I like not needing to run out to the store so often. TFS!!!
Thank you for your video. I'm trying to change our small storage room into my food storage room and what you do here helps me a lot to decide how to organize mine. I feel the need to finish it as soon as possible because we have earthquakes everyday here in Japan. Oh, and I'm an LDS too!
Great video Kimmy. We have case lots sales where I live in Canada as well. I love them! You can save so much money buying by the case but you have to know what you use and what you need just like you stated in your video. I used to case lot shop even when I was single. My friends used to tease me something fierce but they sure loved the fact that they could pop in anytime and I could always throw a delicious meal together just by using what I had in my storage room. I saved a lot of money when my friends came over to watch movies and we got hungry late at night and didn't have to order in food because I always had lots of good food on hand.
We bought our first home this summer, it's small (price was perfect) but I finally have a place for food storage! I have a tall Rubbermaid shelf In my laundry room. It's not a years worth, but I'm getting there! Your basement is impressive!
Very nice, we have a room and 2 closets for our food storage. We store water both inside and in the backyard. I love shopping my rooms too, I know it was all gotten at a good price, grown and canned or dehydrated or bought at the cannery. It makes us feel secure.
Good stuff. I have food storage areas in the kitchen for day to day stuff. Two double sized closets upstairs. A freezer in the laundry room. A Root Cellar off the basement and another part of a downstairs room for more dry storage. Got a fully loaded dehydrater going right now in my workshop with a few pounds of bell peppers diced up and drying. Picked up 10 pounds of fresh ones today at a price too good to pass up on.
I love that you did this video..i am looking into the shelves for.our garage to make a food storage thank you for taking the time to walk those of us that are just starting out through very helpful video..btw your smile makes my day!
10/11/19- enjoyed watching this always encouraged when I see videos like yours.Im recently widowed ( Feb.) I had started filling the freezer for the two of us.I still do. Need to work on canned goods .Maybe not a year supply but with winter coming who wants to run to the stores...burrrrr..Blessings to you and your family🦋
I enjoyed seeing your room! One of the easiest way to get self stable food is this: Choose 10 Self Stable Meals your family enjoys. Get enough to make each meal 10 times. Wahlaa! You have 100 meals!
I have a room like that too. Am always trying to plan whole meals from it to make sure it's going to be really useful in a pinch. We live very far from town & in an emergency would be utterly isolated so I have to plan for power alternatives too.
My food storage is in the garage we bought 2 big double door white cabinets I use one for food and the other for baking pans and plastic containers cake pan and so on and then I have a couple book cases the short ones for food I also love my food storage 👍
You have inspired me to stock up and be more prepared! I also had no idea you could freeze chocolate. Can't wait for more freezer meal videos! Love you channel. :-)
I was so happy you posted this...i recently watched one of your old storage room videos and was hoping you would do an updated one...I am a Couponer too and enjoy having a small stockpile...when I first started I would get whatever I could and ended up not using some stuff...so I really had to tone it down and be a good steward...just because something may be free, if I won't use it, I don't need it..I used to donate a lot too....now I keep small food stockpile and a nice size toiletry and household stock pile and that works great for us 😄
Hi Kimmy! I'm not LDS an I don't play one on TV, although I'm close to the 2 temples in AZ. :) I'm single w/o kids or siblings, but believe in preparing. This way (shopping like you do) I can keep stocked for me and my mom, but can also contribute to my school's food drive, some of our past staff who needed a hand, etc. Last year I purchased a small freezer (it fits in my closet) so I can stock up meats, etc. I have food room envy! Love the videos and thanks for sharing your life, etc. with us. g
+gsims1221 Oh - I also use my linen closet, under my bed and parts of my master and spare room closet to store everything, including my water bricks. :)
Eat what you store and store what you eat." Like you mentioned, we don't do the "extreme couponing" because we found we were buying things that we just didn't want to eat. We're food storage fans too :) Though now we've got a teeny tiny apartment so we're a little more limited in how much we can store. Mostly we try to stock up on the basics like diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, soups, our favorite canned veggies. I usually buy a month's worth of meat at a go, I do a once a month Costco trip for that. I do still need to buy some things at the local grocery store, but it's usually stuff like fresh produce, milk, and things that are too bulky or too perishable to buy in bulk. Two fun stories: In addition to food, we store toothpaste, shower gel etc. My husband said to me once. "It's like magic! As soon as I notice we're running low on something, a new bottle appears in the next day or two." Not magic dear...just planning. :) At the risk of sounding silly, I feel like it's my responsibility to do my best to make sure we never run out of the food and household items that we need and like. About a year ago, we moved across the country (OH to CA) and realized it would be cheaper to repurchase our food & toiletries rather than paying to move them. So we loaded up the car and made a huge donation to our local food pantry. They weigh it so they can give you a receipt for your donation for tax purposes. Our donation came in at about 110 lbs. They said it was one of the largest personal donations they'd seen. I was just happy we could help :)
I love your food room!! I was so excited to see another video on it. I know what you mean about the whole couponing stock. I got caught up in it too. I had so much stuff that I couldn't use up so, I ended up donating most of it to a local food pantry. I had so much cereal my kids wouldn't eat. I have 2 closets off my bedroom/bathroom. I have a walk in closet that I don't need much room for clothing so, I use it mostly for food items and my stock of toilet paper and paper towels.
Car repair, home or appliance repair, sudden medical bills, loss of job, there are many reasons why anyone should be prepared. Have food storage for at least bare minimum 3 to 6 months, 1 year is best. Have money in savings both in a bank and a bit at home in a safe place. An I too am a Mormon. Great job on all your videos an encouragement to others.
I've noticed many people store their food on open shelves. A major disaster would likely interrupt sanitation services which would quickly lead to an increase in vermin in areas that never had to worry about them before. A couple of rats could decimate half of your food storage in a matter of days if you have unprotected boxes and plastic containers or bottles of food on open shelves. Consider metal cabinets with doors, large tins, or even metal garbage cans for vulnerable foods. Male rodents also dribble urine which can be corrosive to cans. Protect your food, and don't forget to stock up on rat, mice, and insect traps.
Really motivational!!! I love this video ❤️ I keep seeing comments saying "something could happen" and they're totally right, but I just started to think on how I'm a vegetarian, constantly needing fresh fruits and veggies, so I just wanted to say another good thing to freeze are fruits! (Great for smoothies too...) so if something bad happens, you'll still have fresh fruits and veggies ;) I'm sure you know you can freeze them, just a good thing to stock up on.
I forgot to add we do.. We are currently struggling money wise so all we have at the moment is about 10 cans of food in a box in our basement but when ever my kool company decides to increase my hours I have a lot planned lol. 2 year food supply from www.wisefoodstorage.com and hopefully 3 months supply in a cabinet of can goods rice and a few other items!
I live in the UK & your food room is amazing ! Please show us some of the recipes you make . We have difficulty getting some of the things you use , say for example I see cool whip or pumpkin pie mix ? Beef over here is very expensive , my Husband is a beef farmer & we can't afford to put any in the freezer , it costs him so much to produce , he has to sell it rather than us keep it . How crazy is that ? Keep it up ! Love your Chanel , thank you xxxx
Nice, I like the way you rotate everything. One thing you didn't mention is Water. you have a lot of dried food but if the water stops flowing you will only have rain water or river water if you are close to one. I imagine you have a backup plan anyway.
I had the idea of looking up food storage tours and YOURS is at the top of the list! :) You never know what kind of disaster may strike. Whether it be natural disasters or not! Power outages, contaminated water (happened to our city and ALL the water was gone at the stores! For 3 days we had to boil water!). You've seen how crazy it can get in the stores once a disaster strikes! Also, food prices go up! If you don't have food storage or don't have the desire to do this, I suggest befriending a Mormon. Lol! Thanks for sharing this video!!!
Its sad that you only want to befriend a Mormon because of their food storage.. i do food storage because of what my german grandparents and stepdad taught me. They been throug 2 world wars. We were always self sufficient.
I really enjoyed this video, and made me more conscious to buy groceries with a meal plan ,, I am hoping to purchase a freezer, loved the bins,, lots of great ideas, thank you 😊
I LOVE the idea of having food stored up for an emergency type of situation. I wish I had a space like this that I could store food. As it is, I only have my pantry in my kitchen but I'm definitely going to be thinking about other areas in my home that could work! ;)
I think it is a very smart idea to have some sort of emergency supply. Our town was hit by a tornado this spring and that demonstrated fully to many how smart it is. So far this year since April, there's been a devastating number of natural disasters, such as an F-4 tornado, Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma, wildfires in the Pacific Northwest, and so on. Having a ready supply would be extremely helpful, not crazy.
Great video. Thank you! It was inspiring. Bless you for following wise counsel. I need to do better. And thank you for posting your recipes. They sound delicious and I was going to ask you about them! xoxoxoxo
I grew up with a full pantry and keep one for my family for many of the same reasons. Its helps when you have to use your food budget for an emergency. Thanks for making this normal💜
I had an AMAZING food storage on hand....until a few mice got into the basement!! got into everything. got thick plastic shelves w locking doors, was great until found they chewed thru that. my remedy? a sonic nightlight=none for a yr!!! (fxing). now I'm starting up again and doing well with supply now just need more shelves lol. great video!!
This is awesome! I think this is such a good idea. As long as it's not bordering on food hoarding.. I wish we could do this but it's just my husband and I and we are full time RVers and don't have the space.
I have been doing this for years, buying in plenty and in bulk just in case! I have tried to teach my children to do the same but they don't seem to get it. I love having my store. If we had severe weather we are stocked up and could manage fine. Loving your vids and ideas, am making the crockpot meals after watching your review. Going to try omitting the balsamic vinegar and go with red wine and soy sauce with the honey.(for the Balsamic Chicken recipe)
Wow I did not know you could freeze candy i.e. chocolate's that will come in very handy thanks Kimmy. I do not know much about the Mormon faith but it sounds really interesting love from Liverpool uk xx 🇬🇧🇺🇸
I didn't know either. I'm definitely going to try this. I hope it's not a fail. I think it depends on the families who are eating these items. I'm definitely giving this a go tho.
I have been watching your channel for a few months and you are so cool and down to earth. I guess my question is do u do fresh fruits and veggies. If so, how do you store them?
I have one suggestion, we don't have a cosco so we shop at sam's. I found once opening a package of instant oat meal (Have found same thing in cake mixes and such) bugs or webs in my food. Started taking all the packages out of cardboard and putting in glass or plastic. Never knew this but some boating friends have said cardboard is nasty, never ever bring on a boat, has bugs and no way to keep them out but to get rid of the cardboard. Since I have been disposing of cardboard b4 storing my food I have had no more problems
my grandmother is my inspiration for food storage...she says store what you eat and eat what you store it's about rotation.
whatever you eat just replace it putting newer items in the back and older in the front...always be prepared
great video
Your food storage looks awesome. I love the simplicity of being able to walk downstairs for food rather than going to the store whenever cook!
Dirtpatcheaven Fancy seeing you here! 2 years later 😂💓

Women did this for centuries, it only makes sense to do it now that we have easy access to washing machines and such!

good job on your prepping, good use of rotating your stock to keep it fresh.

Can you share some of the meals you make with your dry foods? Love this video, makes me happy to see shelves full of food!
I love this room. I find it so comforting to know that I don't have to buy things at a crazy expensive price.
Can you please make a video on what's in your 72 hour kit
OK Lady!, hand over the candy and cans of pineapple and no one get hurt 😷😄😄😄😇!!!
Haha
omg... your videos are amazing... your whole life is organized and I can't even organize my thoughts
Very nice, we have a room and 2 closets for our food storage. We store water both inside and in the backyard. I love shopping my rooms too, I know it was all gotten at a good price, grown and canned or dehydrated or bought at the cannery. It makes us feel secure.
I keep cans in the basement and extra cooking pans there too. I cannot keep boxed items or I get mice in my old home. I love your "grocery store!"
Yay for food storage! It comes in handy for lean times. It's a smart thing to do.
That candy would have been gone by May. Lol!
Love the bins for the freezer and good job on storing meats.
I love that you did this video..i am looking into the shelves for.our garage to make a food storage thank you for taking the time to walk those of us that are just starting out through very helpful video..btw your smile makes my day!
+Crystal Wengenroth (stayathomemomma) Ahhh Thank you Crystal. I hope this video helped you.
I am getting started with mine..i will definitely be using these for reference thanks again!
How often do you use this stuff? Do you take from this room on a regular weekly basis or is it strictly for emergencies?
same question
I was so happy you posted this...i recently watched one of your old storage room videos and was hoping you would do an updated one...I am a Couponer too and enjoy having a small stockpile...when I first started I would get whatever I could and ended up not using some stuff...so I really had to tone it down and be a good steward...just because something may be free, if I won't use it, I don't need it..I used to donate a lot too....now I keep small food stockpile and a nice size toiletry and household stock pile and that works great for us 😄
Love love love pantry and food storage vids :) Thanks! I have a walk in pantry, I'd love a cold storage room, that's really neat.
Protect your food, and don't forget to stock up on rat, mice, and insect traps.
i have a sick baby when she sleeps i watch u too gett some extra energi so thank u/ young first time mother
Mia I am vegan and I agree with you. I also buy canned fruit to use in a pinch in case the power goes and your frozen fruit won't keep.
I like your food storage it's really neat and appears well thought out!
Very organized and motivating! Thanks so much for sharing!
I agree.Everyone should be prepared. Anything could happen.
My hubby and I just, watched your video. Awesome!!!!
I really enjoyed this video, and made me more conscious to buy groceries with a meal plan ,, I am hoping to purchase a freezer, loved the bins,, lots of great ideas, thank you 😊
Glad I can help.
Gd vid thx. Great to see the prep videos are still in fashion ...happy prepping
I actually really liked this video...lol..thanks for making this!
Love the containers in the chest freezer great idea-
How do you store drinking water?
Great job. Very organized and prepared.
Great video. Thank you! It was inspiring. Bless you for following wise counsel. I need to do better. And thank you for posting your recipes. They sound delicious and I was going to ask you about them! xoxoxoxo
nice storage area , big pantry, have a great week
I grew up with a full pantry and keep one for my family for many of the same reasons. Its helps when you have to use your food budget for an emergency.
Thanks for making this normal💜
Awesome video! lots of good info! love your video's😊
I think I have pantry envy! This is awesome!
watching all your videos backwards haha you made my day :)
Thanks for letting us get a glimpse into your life :)
Really nice! I been feeling do this for long time, soon going to do the grocery and buy more shelf. Thank you. God bless you
can't wait for the freezer meals
Wow! I only buy what I need for my weeks meal planning! So sadly we'd starve! 😩 🇬🇧
This is my goal! We live in Texas so I have just been trying to figure out where to keep everything. Thinking our insulated shed! Great video!!!
This is something i need to work on. Thank you for sharing and keeping me motivated❤️
Love it, i'm so jealous of your food storage room!!! :)
Taylor yes but for everyday situations you need fresh fruits and vegetables.
Wow! Love your food storage room.
i cannot wait to see more freezer meals!
