Mars is wrong. The sixers did draft Ben simmons to be a point forward. But by the time he started playing amd more importantly when they drafted Fultz. He was the pg. They drafted fultz to be a 1/2 . He was supposed to be a secondary playmaker and an off ball scoring option.
if i remember correctly ben played forward in summer league and was gonna play forward for the 18 sixers but markelle just couldnt go so they had ben as the point guard. at LSU he was a forward in summer league he was a forward.but maybe i got the timeline wrong
Brett Brown had already coached Ben and knew his game they got Ben so he could do whatever tf he wanted which was be the point forward Mars is definitely wrong.. Sixers also were debating between Kel and JB but them rumors about him being too smart and not caring about ball made them take Kel
My take as a Sixers fan. If the org keeps Jimmy Butler, instead of Tobias Harris. Jimmy never lets Ben Simmons get to the point of falling apart. So with Jimmy, Ben, Joel Embiid at the forefront, later adding Tyrese Maxey this becomes a really good team. Especially since the org has the modern day regular season king in Joel, and the playoff riser in Jimmy, which we know Joel can use due to injuries slowing him down and missing games. Joel still plays at thr MVP level starting in 2021 (he started playing at the mvp level when his son, Arthur, was born). My take is that in this scenario of simply keeping Jimmy, the sixers become the best team in the nba for multiple seasons with MVP Joel, Allstar Maxey, Superstar Jimmy, and possible superstar in Ben.
Nevermind that, just if they didn't trade Mikal Bridges for Zhaire Smith in the 2018 draft. No one can convince me that Simmons, Bridges, Covington and Embiid wouldn't have been the best defence in the league for at least 5 years straight. Also there was really no rush to get Fultz back, or to jump into the Butler and Tobias Harris trades. Embiid and Simmons were like 22 and 23. I also believe that all of this would probably have happened if they didn't fire Sam Hinkie.
I usually agree with mars but I think he’s wrong here. We can’t keep calling it the right move if the move turns out terrible. To get in chill bag if I marry the perfect girl and she dumps me and moves to Norway than I can’t say she was perfect lol
But you wouldn’t have any idea that the girl wasn’t as good as you thought because you wouldn’t have known what would happen in the future. You’re only saying these are the wrong moves because you see the outcome years later rather than putting yourself in the actual moment and scenario.
My man trader Dan finessed the sixers told him he would draft JT and did.. Not to mention the sixers brought JB in for multiple workouts said they loved him and passed on him too just like they did Paul Pierce🤷🏾♂️ .. As one of many Philadelphia born and raised Celtics fans I gotta rub some salt in the sixers wounds Jalen Springer is a NBA champion 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Noel was not an awful pick whatsoever. The 76ers were lucky he fell to them, he probably would have gone number 1 if he wasn't injured at the time. Remember this was the Anthony Bennett draft. MCW in the same draft wasn't that bad of a pick either. Obviously everyone can look at that draft now and say "whoa, how stupid were they to not pick Giannis and Gobert" but those guys were both very raw and were considered very risky picks at the time. For all anyone knew, they could have had the careers of Ajinca and Bruno Cabocolo. I completely agree about the draft day trade of Mikal Bridges for Zhaire Smith though, what an absolute joke. Giving away the guy who had won multiple college championships and whose mother was an employee for the team, for the guy who only ended up playing in 15 NBA games! I don't even know why they wanted Smith. Simmons, Bridges, Covington and Embiid would have been such a ridiculously elite defence. They could have been strong title contenders for the next 5 years probably without even doing the Harris or Butler trades.
if some omniscient being told me if healthy Joel Embiid is actually the best center ever peak for peak. And referred to what he was in 2023/2024 before his knee injury this wouldn’t chock me. What do you think because i genuinely don’t know what to do with that season.
NBA fans have the shortest attentions spans/recency bias out of any fans in any GENRE of entertainment. That 23’ embiid isn’t better than prime Shaq and he’s not even better than Jokic RIGHT NOW. What drugs are you taking dude? Are you a Philly fan? He scored a bunch of points in a league with no defense and he has the best peak ever? Did Jokic like vanish? Heck his peak isn’t even higher than Hakeem’s and we can ARGUE THAT
@@adrijiyuda That Embiid scored more then a point per minute on great efficiency, with good playmaking. And being good on defense. We just didn’t get to see how it would have gone. I also never said his peak is higher than Shaq or Jokic or any other center for that matter. That’s just not what the comment said.
Marz stop capping for Embiid he’s not that guy period he will retire with no rings and we’re not gonna overrate him in all time discussions just because he was “really good at basketball”
@@adrijiyuda Embiid got a lot of flaws but there’s a lot of all time greats that got flaws. Tatum just won a chip and in the playoffs he was really bad with his inefficiency and he was bricking layups left to right in the playoffs and Finals but Tatum still manage to win a chip. I think the main problem for Embiid is that he can’t read the defense and his guard like skills doesn’t translate cause he’s a 300 pound 7 footer that doesn’t use his size so he has a oxymoronic conundrum to his style of play where he’s too skilled to not use his skill and he’s too big not to use his size. I think you blaming Embiid too much. Embiid is very talented and there’s ways Philly can build a team around him and have a coach, players and a system that utilize his skillset the right way to win and mitigate his flaws. Embiid is one of Philly’s issues but he’s not their biggest issue and I’m Embiid’s harshest critic but I don’t think you can blame the process failing solely on Embiid
Facts No if Ben simmions had that dog in him and had the mentality to push himself and to improve his game every year he could have been an all time great that when the process was don’t when he still didn’t shoot the ball in year 2 and 3 and didn’t get rid of butler for Tobias harris.
The thing is injuries and injury prone players that killed The Process. I get that Ben Simmons was the best player in that draft, but I never have and probably never will agree with building around an injury prone player with an injured/injury prone player(s). It can work. It most likely won't.
Embiid ain’t at fault in my opinion. The sixers front office don’t know what they are doing most of the times. Along with no matter how good the coach they always look shaky with the sixers
To be fair. I think people blame ben simmons too much for the philly failure. Ive said it before Ben Simmons should have been playing pg, he shluld have a pf and secondary playmaker. That way he could have slowly devolped that three point shot or even just a mid range instead of hearing the constsnt criticism of a pg that can shoot. If he was a pf that could not shot no one would csre cause its different when yku have a pf on the ckurt who can slash and attack the rim, than a pg who can only attack the rim
nah cause the 76ers have actually won. The suns are more like the bills. The suns are one of the 5 most winningest teams in league history and have yet to win a chip.

To be fair.... Ben Simmons was never supposed to be a pg. If they would have judt let him start his career as a pf and a secondary ball handler he could have eased himself into developing a three ball or even a mid range.
