Have had this since it was first available and absolutely love it. There is nothing cheap about the feel of the plastic body which is solid and rigid. I've never seen anything this customizable before that can work with any plugin from any manufacturer (parameters must be automate-able. Loved it from the first moment I plugged it in. Amazing how it populates the controls for plugins that have not been mapped yet. I do prefer my own mappings and layouts to the factory ones.
So you are mapping plugins differently than Nektar did? How different is it?
What does the Asparion controller sound like when you knock it?
Love mine. Easy to use... Bought one a few weeks ago.
have you tried the Rocksolid audio "channelstrip" controllers (micro 3 or micro4k) ? Small and powerfull
Got mine a few months ago and slowly working through it, but it sits nicely on my studio desk next to my Launchpad Pro. Along with my wireless trackpad and keyboard,, the CS12 is potentially a great complimentary device. The support folks at Nektar have been great to answer some of my queries, and I look forward to not only getting deeper into the device, but also the eventual improvements over time.
single point automation is brilliant
99 out of 100 times I like the automation to be a 100% what I did with the fader instead of some linear curve with 2 points which I can create with a mouse in 3 seconds. But yea, as an additional feature it's ok
@@huberttorzewski as I do agree with you, when it comes to editing 1000 points... I hate it. more often then not it takes me longer to clean up the dots than it would have for me to just draw it in..
considering we can match every thing with curves & such I do with there was an option to convert it so we get the best of both worlds.
@@huberttorzewski agree. That is what I was thinking. What if I want to automate curvey lines?
@@Mansardian I'm fairly confident you can toggle the feature off if you want some crazy curves
The Nektar Panorama CS12 combined with the Softube Console 1 Channel is great 🙂 with the C1 strip you have the most important sounddesign tools loaded to use and the C12 controls everything else!
off topic question: i see you have the DIY SSL bus comp clone and the WES ng-BusComp. Aren't they somewhat a double ? Maybe if you have the old dbx "gold cans" into the DIY clone they are "different" enough, but using same modern THAT chips, aren't they too similar bus comps? Asking cause i looking for an used Wes and seems it sports classic SSL glue with modern features.
I got MIDI keyboard fromNektar and it is amazing with its integration and ease of use. I will wait to see how good this controller will be with Cubase. I hope it will :) Great video :)
Hi Wytse, nice one would you also be able to test the rocksolid audio controllers? They are really compact and would love to have your views on them....
Is this color-coding configurable? Otherwise it's going to be pretty hard to use for those color-blind. But it seems a very promising controller.
Great video! Great product strategy - and - what took us sooo long?
My UF8+UF1+UC1 are my go to controllers. Built like Tanks with excellent displays, faders, encoders.
mine too - but 3rd party plugin control is lacking - as the 360 link plugin is half baked still.
@@massivebeatzz it’s clear SSL is dedicated to this ecosystem though. It’ll get there.
I was waiting for so long for this... I got a nektar keyboard controller a long time ago, and the integration with cubase was like it was made from steinberg, it worked better than the cmc controllers, and those controllers were awesome.
Nektar has a good history with deep DAW integration. They did the original Panorama keyboard controllers with deep Reason DAW integration that was great for it's time. Then they expanded that type of integration with other DAWs on those Panoramas.
Scary part is they dropped supporting and updating features to a lot of DAWs where only the transport buttons would do anything. Still helpful, but not what people were buying into.
Nektar products always felt half baked to me.
I will buy it as soon as possible and test it, thanks! I've been waiting for this for a long time.👍
What is your main DAW of choice? Is it Logic?
I need something like this specifically for FL Studio! I also need an MPC that works perfectly with FL Studio as well!
I own an MPC X, but it's a pain in the ass trying to use it with FL Studio. I don't like using the MPC plugin within FL and
I'm not much of a fan of recording into my MPC X using sounds/VST's from FL Studio either.
You really need to look into the new Console 1MKIII with native Fabfilter support though.
The separate mid side eq per band alone are worth a second and third look.
Great product! Great video!
Absolutely brilliant controller, no wrapper is such a massive thing for me and always loved the Nektar products.
Really good personal support, too.
I reckon the console 1 will be the best for your workflow, but i could be wrong - i have one sitting in a box in the cupboard
There is the issue though with plugin support. Softube added some fabfilter plugins, but I don't think they support sonible. And I'm not sure what else Wytse is using.
As a Logic user and CS12 owner, I can attest, it works very well! I almost went SSL but desk space, true Logic integration and price made this an easier choice.
For me I'd use a wall wart for power. I consider it's a good idea to power a device separately from the computer. Even though I have a power supply to handle it, I don't want my motherboard to handle that.
was there some fan noise in the very background of this video slightly oscillating in frequency .... i think i only noticed as was watching in headphones but once i heard it i could not stop hearing it
There was indeed something weird going on with the pre-amp of the camera, I’ve RXed the crap out of it… well heard!
Sure hope they integrate other daws, don't have logic but i wanted to get a faderport type thing for cubase. Are there and cubase users who have a daw controller type thing? what do you use?
I think Nektar said Cubase was next on their list for support for this device.
I don't know how the faders feel on the new iCon pro series, but they have been clever enough to use a touch display with a grid overlay to make "buttons", so that they can have correct label for any daw (and they support simple keyboard macros for user presets, not a Elgato Streamdeck replacement but much better than the typical Mackie controller). They also have a way of controlling last touched parameter, in that case by using the jog-wheel, I suspect that works in Cubase, not sure it works in every daw.
I use the SSL UC1 UF8 and UF1 with Cubase. I’ve been using them for a while in Ableton Live and they work great. I recently switched back to Cubase after several years away. So far the integration has been solid… There’s a few things different about how it works, but it works. I’ve been enjoying it
Single point automation: Many DAWs have thinning to reduce the sheer number of potential automation points that are written and not overwhelm the CPU with thousands of automation points. So thesis a pretty well known concept, that was taken to the logical end. It is a good idea.
I use a Fighter Twister from DJ Techtools in combination with a Faderport. Takes seconds to map plugins to midi controllers in studio one. ;)
Great video, looks really interesting. Agree that the build quality seems a bit subpar, but I like the LPX mapping and that new automation mode.
If this puts out CC commands, you should be able to program it in Reaper to do anything you want via the action menu. No need to wait for the company to get around to it.
i don't care what the comments say; this was still more watchable than unfrosted.
Any controller I buy must be used in my studio as well as for live performance. It appears that the rotatables are pots and not continuous controllers. Is this the case?
Continuous.
Nektar makes good stuff, the Pacer is a highly underrated, insanely versatile, built like a tank midi pedalboard / daw foot controller, definitely worth checking that one out
I’ll be patient until Studio One is supported, but I have a question: many knob controllers have the annoying behavior of immediately jumping to a value when moved, or not responding until you spin past the actual value. I see that the fader seems to jump to actual value….how do the knob controllers respond?
That's really only an issue with potentiometers, which have a start and stop range. Most decent 'pots' on digital equipment these days are rotary encoders - they have no limit on range and will just increment values depending on which direction you turn them in. So no workarounds like jumping or take-up are necessary.
Can you run this with ssl uf 8?
YES .....integrate for REAPER .....Please !!!! I'm in the market for a controller. I'd love to own this.
1:49 "...and this thing" Motorized faders? if yes, what is it?
Great video as always! If they update this to work with pro tools, my wallet will be out so fast it may just catch on fire!
Pro Tools his had glide automation forever. It’s exactly what your talking about with it not writing all the little points is it’s just a simple point to point parameter change.
What happens when a plugin has more functions than the CS12 has knobs? Is there a shaft function to handle that?
With the press of a button, you can jump between sections/pages of a plugin.
@@velanche Thanks ! That's the answer I hoped for.
Nektar are one of the best when it comes to out of the box DAW integration imo
i'm waiting on reaper integration too. i bought into the control 1 ecosystem, and it was actually a massive workflow killer, and the advent of the mkIII system made it even worse for us in the mkII world. i had high hopes for it, but CS12 looks to be everything i'd hoped i'd have gotten with console 1. i already have other nektar units, and they're awesome.
This has sparked my interest for sure ! I hope they will do one for Cubase
The SSL controller didn't work well with Reaper. Hopefully the Nektar does. Then I'll buy.
What’s about the mp Midi Controler?
MP MIDI since the stand alone update is bloody fantastic.1 use it for so much more than just music stuff. I was keen on this one for a while but I think I’m off it especially after watching this
@@ApiaryProductions the mp midi is much more versatile
They updated the Controller DAW software to Control the DAW itself…… 👍🤙🔥
This looks nice
I’ve never had a complaint about any controller because it was plastic, and the price is great 👌
Liking the features for the price 👍🏽
I hope they make it available for Bitwig 🤞
I remember a comment from Nektar themselves somewhere, they said they would be adding Bitwig integration eventually.
I’ve been waiting on this for a long time
This is amazing! Looking forward to more DAW support because wow this looks amazing!!
I wish this wasnt out of stock everywhere lol
As soon as it is integrated with Reaper I would appreciate a deep dive on how to use it with Reaper!
I bought a second hand Behringer X Touch One with a script for Cubase someone posted on the Steinberg forums. That works perfectly and cost me 100 euro. Is it cheap plastic? Yes. Is it kinda ugly? Yes. Does it work? O yes. Does it have 2 USB ports for my keys and iLok? O hell yes.
Really hoping for it to be working with cubase in the future.
Steinberg are missing a beat. The cubase users are really wanting a new controller since the much loved CC121.
PINK NAILS!
*waits patiently in Cubase* 😉
Colors aren't the way to go, coming from someone whose colorblind. Im glad you let me know that before i checked it out.
Thanks.
Looks great, will probably get one when Reason is supported.
I saw this on NAAM YT!!!! I’m so going to buy this!!!!
How did you connect those ssl controllers together?
3D printing
@@Whiteseastudio Cool! Any chance to share the model?
Its not really perfect yet
Release date late May early June.
If only there was a version for Ableton
Wosh it was conpatible with Apple's Mainstage3
Thanks Wytse! And love the nails!
Heya! When doing reviews of the other controllers, can you please talk about using plugins that aren't tied to the manufacturer. It's been something that I've always been keen to look into, but as a hobbyist, I can't go through everyone to see how adaptable they are.
Cheers!
Best DAW controller is still a keyboard and a nice gaming mouse set to full speed.
I use a G13 and G600 MMO combo.
Have you checked out MPMidi yet?
Better Controller Capabilities with update.
i want them to take my money too….but do they have plans to support cubase ?
The only glowing review I've ever seen from my favorite audio skeptic... Take my money, indeed!
I’m waiting for this one for a long time, integration with Reaper and Nektar has a buyer 👍🏼
What device is that you have your SSL Controllers mounted in.
Let us know when it works with Reaper.
Since when you use Logic?
He used to before he switched to Reaper. But he's not actively using it anymore. It was only for this video. (As far as I know of course.)
i remapped my console 1 on reaper with relearn, looks even better imo
Seems cool, but I don't trust Nektar as I have their 49 key midi controller and it's basically useless with Nuendo.
Hello W..... hope your well, I so agree with you and cannot wait for the Cubase plugin to come, happy production
I have been going on and on about how companies have gone backwards with control surfaces since the Mackie Uneversal and the C4 but it seems they are waking up and thinking about audio engineers workflow and Controllers that beter suite channel strip work flows which is the backbone of mixing. I have been on Avid about this in hopes they would get a clue and make a channel strip controller worthy of Eucon intergration and Avids name / legacy but we will see.
YOu rock, love your videos and enjoy your flow.
Being waiting for the Reaper integration...
Ik vind 't wel een interessante. Toch doe ik liever alles met snelkoppelingen en met m'n muis. Maar toch interessant... Je zou 't eigenlijk, net als de meeste plugins, moeten kunnen proberen. :)
I see a video of you saying "TAKE MY MONEY!" and I click it as fast as possible. That's all.
There's no mistaking that you like colors ;)
I am STILL over a year later, trying to force myself to use my SSL controller(s) more... Sigh
Been mixing/engineering since the mid 70s, old bloke with young ears. Since softube released console mk 3 I've found a time machine that has taken me back to my old neve and tape machine days, oh joy and now with UAD and Fabfilter integration heaven has descended into my production suite, nothing compares. Used to be a Mac evengelist but now wouldn't go within a mile of a Mac product, my how times have changed.
🔥
Asparion review please ❤
Looking forward to reaper integration!
💅
Single point as an optional way to fade, yes. As the only way to fade, no!
It is optional
I think I'm gonna sell my Rocksolid Audio Control Strip 2 and Presonus Faderport Mk2 to get this!
Bring me Reason Support and I am Sold. Thanks Nektar for making a great product
The SSL Controller UF1 are more expensive than the nektar in the first view, but you will get 3 different SSL Channelstrip Plugins and the BusCompressor. So in the end, the SSL Controller are also not so expensive for this what you get. I had also a lot of different controllers, but in the end I bought all 3 SSL Controller and this was my personal best decision.
As far as I know you have to pay for those channel strips with a UF1. I only got the SSL meter for free with it. And they’re quite expensive when not on sale.
@@LanewoodStudios you're right. By the UF1 it's only the Meter Plugin. With UC1 you get 3 Channelstrips and the bus comp.
now with UF1, UC1 and UF8 I have them all 😉
USB C port is a no-go.. by far not durable enough..
If someone can do it, it's you! We NEED a controller for Reaper, you may design one, i promise i would Buy It!
As soon as there is Cubase integration, they can take my money too!
I have one of their Panorama keyboard controllers. The Cubase integration broke around The time Cubase 11 came out and has not ever been addressed and I’m not holding my breath. Not only that, the motorized fader has failed. I would think long and hard before giving Nektar another dime of my money.
Icon P1-m would be my choice as it has a jog wheel for DAW navigation/selection, 9 motorized faders and what looks like a stream deck built in. Can get optional screen too but not necessary. I suppose its whatever suits your workflow though. I would like to eliminate using my mouse so have started saving for the P1-m.
It is a single touch display, so it doesn't have the button feel of the streamdeck, nor does it support as complex macros and commands. But I am also looking at it. I was really impressed that they wrote proper script for ableton, supporting flip to fader parameter controls, that support full values, whereas the mackie script does not (but the SSL do). The P1-m also supports last touched parameter by pressing a button and using the jog-wheel. But typically fader controllers don't support parameter controls in the way this does, with custom order of parameters, and if they do, don't expect the maker to offer any pre mappings, other than the typical that the DAW reports via the mackie script, that cn be chaotic and with the limited numder or lettters/number, sometimes impossible to decode.
these are all jokes compared to eucon. I know eucon/avid still has bugs and issues and are slow with updates…but still this is a toy compared to eucon controllers with euconized DAWs. (with Logic, it might be close to eucon but not with another DAW, since it will be just a midi controller but nothing more)
note: though with the price difference with avid controllers and this…its also not a fair comparison.
Thanks for the cool information - i am very courious about asparion! that looks also very interesting! - Thanks and have a nice weekend! - all the best
Another "unnecessary" to slow you down, and for some , this is what is keeping you from " making it" .
Yep
