I’m amazed how these people can dance and sing so effortlessly. They have amazing control over their breathing. Also that guy in the bright green leotards, I was not expecting that.
They definitely make it look effortless but how many hours of rehearsal and prep and exercise and stretching and vocal and dance training went into it? 🌻
This looks and sounds like a very strong cast. Does anyone know the name of who plays Old Deuteronomy? He makes great cat expressions and already looks like a cat even without character make-up. Thanks for posting.
Old Deut is played by Pierre Yves Duchesne, he's an amazing actor as well as a great teacher, he's the headmaster of the theater school I'm attending (Aicom Paris). Cédric Chupin, who plays Munkustrap, is a teacher there and he's amazing as well!
My nearly two year old just peeped on my phone, frowned, pointed and said 'ooh cats' and did a little cat move 😂😂 we don't speak French but we must've watched this waaaaay too much - his favourite musical
Very surprised to see a Dutch Javert (Wim van den Driessche) being a cat here. There are some amazingly talented performers who seem to be able to swap language as well as type of character with ease.
How was the movie stupid? I felt it quite accurately brought the film to screen and then some. The VFX were great. You just have to laugh off odd moments like hybrid human cockroaches. Again, true to the play. The ear movements added so much. Singing and dancing was also on pt. So what's the issue?

Wow 😲😲 that was amazing guys and gals!! It was pure delight to watch you sing and dance to this song. It was like I watching the cats the musical( not the movie) again .
How was it unlike the movie? I thought the movie was a remarkable translation of play to film. The vfx and sets were astounding despite what duplicitous James Corden is saying now that the ink on his check is dry.
I disagree. This is a wonderful redition but the vfx of the movie were pretty astounding and the singing/dancing were on pt. The ear movements added so much the play cannot. You just have to laugh at the oddities like human cockroach hybrids. All in all it was a remarkable translation of play to film. Haters just hate cats.
for better or for worse, i’m a native english speaker with years of musical experience but only with english lyrics so i’ve always wondered if lyrics are a 1-1 copy or if there’s anything that gets lost in translation when going from english to really any language like it’s clear they’re saying “jellicals can and jellicals do” but what about everything else
General translations, slightly loose but they keep the spirit of it, at least for this song. “Are you blind when you’re born” is changed to “Who can see in the dark/Can you see in the dark” and “Would you sit on his throne” becomes something similar to “Would you play with his crown”. The chorus part (jellicales can, etc) is “Jellicles can, jellicles want to”, which is the closest you’d get considering a blatant translation of that part would be a bit too long. The Canadian national anthem is also a bit adjusted, dependant on the language you sing it in. “Our home and native land” translates into “Land of our ancestors” but it’s a very similar concept. The rest of the anthem is of a similar vein. (I’m a French Immersion student and therefore have sung both versions wayyy too many times, lol)
It's great to see the rehearsals. It shows that we need to practise to get things right. I wish to focus on the camera had been set to manual as it did keep trying to focus and this spoiled the video to a certain degree. Still good tho.
only thing I don't like that it's too slow. should be a bit faster...2-3 bmp faster and it's perfect... jellicle cats is a happy song, not a sleepy song.
I’m a little conflicted about this being translated into French. I realize musicals are always translated into various languages, but when the source material is poetry that was written in a specific language, I feel like the language and its structure, meter and rhyme is so essential to conveying the writer’s voice and intention, that as the old saying goes, something is “lost in translation.”
Yes you are welcome to my birthday party at this church in this morning I will let you know when we get there I can get them myself thank you thank the kids choir

The french actors and voices/lyrics are actually quite beautiful.
