What does that phrase "Thank you for your service." mean? I have a brother who is a vet and a retired, 40 year employee of the VA. I have spent this day trying to get him transferred from a nursing home 60 miles away from our town. He was sent out of town by the VA due to him contracting Covid19. He was sent to the nearest covid ward. He is now disease free. I have spent this day trying relocate him to his home town so that we could care for him daily. The VA, his PCP, and the nursing homes have shown no intetest in his care. He is sitting alone in his room and isn't even receiving physical therapy. I went to pick him up and was told if I remove him from the hospital without his doctor's approval then he would be liable for his five weeks stay. It is a disgrace to treat anyone this way. It is especially aggregious to treat a 86 y.o. vet this way. My son drove me to visit my brother due to my numerous and serious health problems. I will no longer blurt out the thank you comment until I know that our government is treating him right.
A couple of years ago, I watched a Pearl Harbor Documentary on Netflix. Part of the video had an interview with the actual radar operator who was on duty that morning and had first viewed the aircraft that were approaching from an easterly direction toward the island. Although the airbase at Hickam Field was expecting a flight of six, brand new B-17 bombers arriving from the mainland that morning, the radar operator said that there appeared to be hundreds of "blips" (which are raw data radar returns) on his screen. He advised his supervisor, who then passed that information on to the commissioned officer (Ensign) on duty that morning. Unfortunately, for some reason, it appears that information was never passed on to higher command. I tried again to get that Netflix documentary a few weeks ago but it's no longer available. For anyone who wants to seriously look into the many aspects of the attack on Pearl Harbor that have never been adequately addressed, there is a wealth of information that can be found. You can begin by doing a Google search regarding the Admiral that was relieved of his command, after he flew back to Washington and spoke personally with FDR in the White House, concerning how dangerously unsafe it was to have most of the Pacific fleet bottled up in the harbor, as easy targets. In addition, having already broken the Japanese code, it was known that the Japanese fleet was already at sea and was preparing for an attack. It wasn't a matter of "if" but, "when", that would occur. In fact, the Japanese had created a map of the entire harbor, which showed the location of each ship and what type it was. Furthermore, I have a close friend, who will be 105 on Jan. 30, 2023, and the oldest living veteran of the Pearl Harbor attack ( Dec. 7, 1941) . In the past week he was honored for his service, along with 5-6 other WWII veterans, with a ceremony in New Orleans. Over the past few years, I've had numerous conversations with him about the morning of that attack. He has repeatedly mentioned the fact that "everyone" knew that an attack was imminent. He was also very familiar with the incident in which the Admiral was relieved of his command after having spoken with FDR.
I remember about a Black cook. Never trained for combat, he took up a powerful machine gun (attached to the ship?) and kept firing away. I think he received the Navy Cross?

The US Knew there was a threat for their asian bases. Seeing how quickly Japan was able to conquer island after island, country after country. It was something they knew would eventually happen. However what the US failed to realise was the determination of Japan to Conquer and the lenghts at which they were willing to use/make to achieve that goal. The use of Kamikaze Pilots already nearly pushed America to the brink seeing inhumane tactics being utilised by the japanese and the eventual attack of one of their largest bases in Asia, not only surprise but led america to believe not only were the japanese brazen and bold but was a super huge threat to conquering southeast asia which then pushed america to the brink of severe retaliation.
