- "Clap Hands," by Tom Waits. Another great live performance.
Lyrics:
Sane, sane, theyre all insane,
Firemans blind, the conductor is lame
A Cincinnati jacket and a sad-luck dame
Hanging out the window with a bottle full of rain
Clap hands, clap hands, clap hands, clap hands
Said roar, roar, the thunder and the roar
Son of a bitch is never coming back here no more
The moon in the window and a bird on the pole
We can always find a millionaire to shovel all the coal
Clap hands, clap hands, clap hands, clap hands
Said steam, steam, a hundred bad dreams
Going up to Harlem with a pistol in his jeans
A fifty-dollar bill inside a palladin's hat
And nobodys sure where Mr. Knickerbocker's at
Roar, roar, the thunder and the roar
Son of a bitch is never coming back here no more
Moon in the window and a bird on the pole
Can always find a millionaire to shovel all the coal
Clap hands, clap hands, clap hands, clap hands
I said steam, steam, a hundred bad dreams
Going up to Harlem with a pistol in his jeans
A fifty-dollar bill inside a palladin's hat
And nobodys sure where Mr. Knickerbockers at
Shine, shine, a Roosevelt dime
All the way to Baltimore and running out of time
Salvation Army seemed to wind up in the hole
They all went to heaven in a little row boat
Clap hands, clap hands, clap hands, clap hands
Clap hands, clap hands, clap hands, clap hands
Clap hands, clap hands, clap hands, clap hands
so this song was playing when my family was in the car and none of us had any idea what it was, but my brother and mother immediately started clapping slowly as my mother goes "I'm scared of what's going to happen if I don't clap hands.." basically we were terrified, but this guys is hardcore talent!
holy shit this is awesome
Wtf did I just watch?
Dang! This guy just scares me. He always has. :-O
masterpiece
He is not scary he is silly
The poetry is genius! this is one example of his cranked out of his gourd personae~ He is actually quite approachable, a northern California character whom many have imitated and tho tedious at times reaches inside you to pull xylophones, tenor sax horns dumpsters as bass drum and clanking bottles...poetry in sound works~ His best stuff is fresh in the studio instead of this "hammin' it up", like Mick Jagger. He's around enough that you've got something to say to him, you can reach him~
Would he sound as keen as if he hadn't been "bangin' the gong around?"...would Miles Davis? would Ray Charles?
@UCFCamaroSS
That pathetic society oughta be arrested for not having a spot for him.
He definitely does, not everyone strives to be sheep.
And I clap clap clap hands
for your beautiful poem
which directs all the bad dreams
into the screaming night
of thunders and roars
love this song as well
This guy should be arrested. He serves no point in society.
You serious?
