Davenport is so beautiful to watch playing. So fluid, that’s pure power...it seems she doesn’t even make an effort to hit the ball so hard and clean. One of the best strikers in the open era. Miss Lindsay
Her coach before i think didnt really have her improve her speed or something,, when she transferred to Peterson, she improved somewhat, could prolong more points than usual
Having seen her play in person, the sheer beauty of her groundstrokes was something special and with her height and big, flowing swings, she looked like a great dancer!
Agreed! Lindsay was an extraordinary hitter of the ball. This was an incredible match and Serena’s sheer will pushed her over the edge. This loss must have stung.
Great win for Serena. Lindsay was so gracious after the match. I loved Lindsay’s smile as she offered her hand to congratulate Serena for a well deserved victory. True sportsmanship.
Unbelievable last three points by Serena :) This was a pivotal match in her career having lost so many close encounters that year. Thanks for this new reel, much better highlights
Loved watching the ball striking of Davenport. She would beat most everyone today on her good days. However, Serena basically could do everything Lindsay could do with the biggest difference being their movement. Serena is just so fast.
i think this match was pretty huge in serena’s career, despite going on to lose in the final. she had lost to lindsay just a year earlier in this round as the defending champ and in the two years since her 99 win had shown flashes of that same brilliance but wasn’t putting it together consistently at the slams again. had three quarterfinal losses that year in 3 sets at the slams coming into this (hingis australia, capriati french and wimby) and losing this match would’ve been very aggravating for her, but i really think this win got her over a mental hump, and just a year later she’d win 3 slams.
Davenport was a casualty of the Williams and talented Belgians era. She didn't win a slam after 2000 Australian open. She would have won more in a different era. The 2000s tennis was just something else.
Davenport was the purest, most simple ball striker I’ve ever seen. It’s almost graceful how she shifted her body weight and moved through the ball. And Serena, I remember watching this match on TV and thinking…that is the greatest athlete to ever step foot on a tennis court.
Funny how Davenport could give Venus Williams FITS during the late 1990s and early 2000s, but could rarely beat Serena ...Jennifer Capriati could give Serena Williams FITS, but couldn't do much against Venus.
That's a good point. Davenport a much better ball striker than capriati however capriati had tremendous speed and athleticism so it wasn't as easy for Serena to hit through her.
Lindsay Davenport and Martina Hingis were such bridesmaids to the sisters at the Open from 1999-2002. All of Davenport's losses in that time came to Venus or Serena and so did Hingis's except 2002, where she was beat in the 4R one round before she would've faced Venus lol
Ofcourse Venus and serena were the better athletes during that time. No doubt about it. Davenport did beat Venus 1998 here in the semis, when she lifted the trophy. And who will forget the crowd's roar when Davenport did beat Venus here in the fourth round in 2004
This era you could count on Hingis, Davenport, Capriati, Seles, Henin, Clijsters and The Williams Sisters to consistently reach QFs or better. The WTA now is only missing the bankable star power to do this for the types of major rivalries that sell tickets

If that is beautiful playing, so you have to call Henin's game wonderful ;)
if she had had the speed and athleticism of the williams sisters she would have been unbeatable..

Lindsay Davenport is one of the cleanest hitters to ever play tennis.❤❤❤
Her ground strokes are FLAWLESS!!! If Lindsay could move like Serena...she would’ve been the GOAT!
@@s.w.d4010 I agree
Yes, but also is Serena Williams.🌹
Too slow! Davenport could have won more titles if she devoted herself to be more athletic. Move movements.
@@s.w.d4010 yes, she would be the best of all

Which wasn't always the way
She learned from the mess a year earlier with the comment of keeping the Williams out of the finales .
@@philanders9n413Lindsay always had friendly handshakes with Serena, win or lose. It was with Venus that she was cold when she won.
@@philanders9n413 Lindsay and Serena always got along well. It was Lindsay and Venus who never got along for some reason.
Crazy to think Serena and Lindsay played each other every US Open for 4 years straight from 1999 to 2002.
Unbelievable last three points by Serena :) This was a pivotal match in her career having lost so many close encounters that year. Thanks for this new reel, much better highlights
Lindsay Davenport is the best tennis player with her limited movement. Her spotless strike is just spectacular!
That final point: defense to offense. Beautiful!!
Loved watching the ball striking of Davenport. She would beat most everyone today on her good days. However, Serena basically could do everything Lindsay could do with the biggest difference being their movement. Serena is just so fast.
Movement and mental strength.
Serena's serve is also better in pressure moments, that's usually the biggest difference
@@endokuken1678 yes, that too, very true :)
No davenport won't. Players r way fast with huge power now. Game has changed. Power goes with athletic movement
@@deepakmahajan170prime Serena, Clijsters, Henin and Venus would dominate current players, with the only exception of Swiatek.
LOVE watching Serena play. Precision, athleticism, strategy. Legendary status. Great match!
Man this match had some great rallies, just pure power from both players
Beautiful tennis, both of em playing to perfection, truly spectacular!

I've never seen anyone that can play serena like this
Two legends, and two great players and lots of respect and sportsmanship. Congrats Serena ❤️❤️❤️

Davenport won't have won slam after 2000
Because game became fast in 2000s and today it is super fast
I loved watching Lindsay play. Her backhand was spot on!

Thank you for this high quality match upload.
That match was won. Very enjoyable to see that level of tennis.
2001 and 2002 were Serena’s sexiest years on tour.
She was still looking good 2003 and 2004 though 👀👀

@vijayaraghavannarayanan2973 ok but like that doesn't have anything to do with what I stated in the parent comment.

Why don't you show the score on screen?
Great match 😃 Lindsay's weakness was her movement, she could've won many more slams
Is not it strange that many of the comments favoured Lindsay, when it was Serena who came on top??
Que garra tiene serena,es una gladiadora!!
Have you got capriati vs mauresmo from the us of 2001?
Can someone post a better quality picture of the 2001 henin vs serena match.. the picture is blurry
She's a such fiater, fenomenal battle💪👏
Lindsay's mental strength is no match to Serena.
@ McCormick if you can't say anything good about someone please don't say nothing.
@Campi, I totally agree with your comment
Serena just beat Justine henin the round before ..a much weaker henin back then
Yeah just coming off the Wimbledon final 😂

Back in the days when Serena’s BH use to be a thing.
It's still a thing of beauty, her super BH down the line. One of her favourite shots since she's a kid!

WTF
