    Nice collection! I dig old horror comics as well. Depending on the quality of the books, you've got several that would go anywhere from $10 - $30 a piece. Some of the DC books may be worth more, depending on the cover artist.

      Hey, thank you for letting me know. There’s so many old titles out there you just never know, it was a lot of fun bringing this old box out and looking through it, it’s got me wanting to be on the hunt for more.

    That Red Circle book is worth some money. If you have Werewolf By Night #32 and/or #33 they’re worth some big bucks. Also anything with artwork by the late great Bernie Wrightson is valuable too (he did a lot DC Comics horror books).

    I had a large comic book from the 70s.. Had a light weight cardboard cover. Can't remember the title or what was on the cover. Just some cool stories in it and great artwork. One story I think was called Widow's Walk. About a ship captain that went to sea in his old sailing ship. His wife walking on the widow's walk on the top of the house watching for him. I don't remember why but at the end she cursed him to not comeback from the sea. Then as his ship was coming in that she could see it, lightening struck it and it sunk. Then one day as she was on the widow's walk she was really old and was about to die. Then she says her husband's name and said he could finally come back from the sea. And at the time she died the people around watching said, "Look out at the sea" . And his sunken sailing ship comes up from the bottom of the sea, Him at the wheel all covered with sea weed. - Another one about a sculptor. Sculpting two large gargoyles. I don't remember the story but, at the end the gargoyles came to life and flew off with him in their claws.

    I have found these type of horror comics at antique malls and comic shops. Usually the price is $4.oo to $6.oo these days. Most of them are in nice condition, but great artwork and good reading. Brings back good memories!

    Hey Rudy, they turned that Head of the family comic into a pretty badass movie back in 96. It was a low budget horror with everything you want to see in a great horror movie. It's actually called head of the Family you gotta check it out! I bet that comic has a cult following the movie does!

      That does sound familiar! I remember seeing that character somewhere else, I have to go watch that for sure! Thank you very much. I kept remembering thinking maybe someone else drew the character like that or there was a new comic book but no it was that movie you’re talking about for sure and I never saw it yet!

    Superhero comics killed off the Moster comics. There were attempts by other publishers to do monster comics once Marvel and DC stopped doing them, but the quality of art and writing wasn't there.

    • @tornadot2025

      No - it was the CCA and overzealous censorship that led to a dip in the popularity of Monster comics. They were never "killed off" at any point in history. They were heavily censored by the CCA. The genre formally started in the 40's. EC Comics was the main source of horror comics back then (though, they were far from being the only ones). DC and Marvel didn't get into the Monster game until the 70's. Thankfully, the genre has made a nice comeback in recent years with IP's like The Walking Dead, Hellboy, American Vampire, Crossed, Locke & Key, Neonomicon, and Providence, to name a few.

    • @TheRQpaints
      @TheRQpaints 9 місяців тому

      @@tornadot2025 NO, there was a new wave a monster comics that followed the CCA rules and did quite well for a time, until the superhero comic took over in popularity. At times they have made small comebacks but have never been as big as they were back in the day. Also more than half the comics you named are nothing like the comics Rudy was showing.

    • @tornadot2025
      @tornadot2025 9 місяців тому

      @@TheRQpaints The new wave of monster comics never came close to the original wave in popularity and sales due to the lasting effects of the CCA, which are still being felt to this very day. Just because the CCA went away doesn't mean that the negative effects of it magically disappeared and everything went back to normal. The damage was already done, and the well was already poisoned in the minds of the general public. Also, the same CCA that practically -kneecapped- censored the other genres to the outer fringes of the industry also conveniently boosted the Superhero genre due to them having a squeaky clean image along with religious influences to get by the censors.
      The comics I listed are part of the Horror genre, which is what Monster comics ultimately fall under. How is a comic literally named American Vampire not about a type of monster (vampires)? Every single one that I listed falls under the Horror genre. If you specifically meant Horror Magazines or Anthologies like Tales from the Crypt, then there are modern variations of those too (though they are more underground and harder to find). Bela Lugosi's Tales from the Grave is an example of a relatively modern Horror Anthology. The Bloke also does a couple of horror anthologies called Bloke's Tomb of Horror, and The Bloke's Terrible Tomb of Terror.

    • @TheRQpaints
      @TheRQpaints 9 місяців тому

      @@tornadot2025 Naming indie comics and anthologies doesn't make your point. They are not producing high quality monster comics like the ones Rudy was showing in his video anymore. Marvel and DC haven't made them in years. I stand by what I wrote 100%.

    • @tornadot2025
      @tornadot2025 9 місяців тому

      @@TheRQpaints It literally DOES make my point! Or are you going to sit here and try to claim that Non-DC and Non-Marvel produced comics somehow don't count as comics? The kind of comics that you claimed have been killed off, have not really been killed off. They are still being produced to this day, and people are still buying them to this day. They don't dominate the mainstream like they did back then, but they're still around. Just because DC and Marvel don't make them anymore doesn't mean that they don't exist. There is more to the industry than just DC and Marvel. You can stand by what you wrote, but that doesn't make it factually correct.
