thank you for speaking about the harm untreated narcissists can do. I am the product of narcissist abuse and one thing that happens is you become so used to having your boundaries violated you can no longer really identify when something is unhealthy. It took YEARS of work to get better.
If I hate someone, they just don't exist to me. I would never spend energy or time to make anyone else miserable. They can do that fine all by themselves and without me. I will be over here living my best life and enjoying my day.

I really like what you say to yourself..."I am too important". I think I ought to start saying that to myself when it comes to toxic family members. Over Christmas, I noticed that a few of my older siblings always dismiss me. I could be an expert on something and they would still act like I do not know what I am talking about and question everything I say. I think it is because I am the youngest but we are all adults now and it can be really damaging to my self-esteem. I need to find my voice and be assertive. I am proud of you Peter for really just putting on a brave face and being as positive as you can given the circumstances. I hope you have a happy new year.
fleurgi uhhhg I know your pain and struggle with a toxic family. I have one of the most wretched toxic vile families I could make a crappy lifetime movie or 3rd shelf nonfiction book. I literally have felt so defeated by them to the point I tried to kill myself well I did kill myself I was dead and saved and brought back and died 3 more times then a coma for over a week cause of them. I had to literally cut them out of my life and yet they still try to destroy me still. It's so crazy. And I do not give them any fuel and they will make fuel. I hate toxic family. I feel so bad for them. I wish them well. I can't hate them when I clearly should, they are family but I can't be in their life. I chose my family now and I love them beyond words. You can't pick your family they say... I say bs you totally can pick your family! I hope you get away from the toxic people! Good luck! I it's a battle. For YEARS the advice I got was that I had to (HAD to!) keep forgiving the abusive words and behavior and it kept me in a Terrible cycle. Congrats on the 100k!! My sister is a super manipulative and toxic person and this was helpful. When you were talking about how we tell everyone how much we are annoyed by them I realised that’s what I do to my friends. It’s hard to talk to them because they don’t usually get it or I feel like they don’t care but i don’t want to do that anymore. I think the worst part with toxic people is when they manipulate everyone around them to think you’re the bad one when they’re causing the issue. I have watched you now since May of this year, and never have you done a video that has spoken so much to me.I lost my grandmother in September (essentially like a second mother), and my father, the epitome of health as a revered local Pharmacist, had a massive stroke three weeks later.As difficult as all this has been,I realized through watching this video that "toxic people" have been holding me back from my true recovery. I have grown up with two narcissists my whole life, my mom and my sister. As my only nuclear family members (my dad passed away when I was very young) I grew up conditioned thinking that I’m not worthy, that I’m not strong and that I’m not important. It has taken me so long (with the help of therapists and my wonderful partner) to just come to a realization that they have a problem, and I still have problems telling them “no!”. So I relate to you on many levels. Especially as a former addict (well we are addicts for life but I’ve been clean for 8 years now), I understand the toxicity of toxic people. But now I’m so closed off. I literally have no friends left besides my husband but sometimes I want/need a friend I can just call up and hang with, laugh with, share anything with...my best friend chose his boyfriend over me. He acknowledges it and knows he does and tries to continue our friendship but he’s hurt me so much I don’t feel it’s genuine. So now I’m in this shitty state. So i don’t know what to do now.

I was abusing my prescriptions and my medication for a week was gone in two days. Yesterday I was at my GP and she asked me if I needed a new prescription for my medication - it took a lot of strenght and refused the medication

Congratulations on 100k. That’s so exciting. I want to say thank you, Peter. You have helped me more than you can possibly know. My entire life I have been expected to be perfect. I was told to jump and expected to say how high and in what direction. When I didn’t perform to peoples expectations I was cut off, not spoken to, talked about and treated like I was lower than snail shit. My addiction to alcohol and drugs was a direct result of trying to find a way to deal with the stress of these situations. I stayed in a 17 year marriage full of mental and emotional abuse because “it was the right thing to do.” I left almost 2 years ago and have been sober for almost 20. My life now is amazing. I’ve learned to say no and it’s an amazing feeling. My boyfriend now has helped me see that life can be amazing with the right people in your life. Listening to you speak, the amazing quotes and the experiences you’ve been through have been so encouraging. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Peter. As a fellow addict in recovery, just celebrated 4 years! Removing toxic people from your life is never an easy thing because we love these people. I unfortunately had to do this with my dad, he changed upon remarrying and I don't know the man he's become. I needed to hear this so so so much, it was hard this year during the holidays without him but when I sat back and realized how amazing the people are in my life, it wasn't so bad after all. I got to spend time with my mom and we had a great Christmas together and I didn't let the issues with my dad, ruin our day. I'm so grateful to be sober and now I'm even more grateful for others out there going through a similar situation and it helps me feel less alone, we got your back, girl, no worries. I hope that John sees this and learns from it because I certainly have. 💚💚💚

Absolutely Oprah! 💙 I remember the day I turned 30 and I was like "I'm broken, I just can't anymore." I then turned around and made a thick line with everyone in my life and said "This is the line right here. No more." I did this with family and friends and it opened a new world of communication. Some people I thought would never leave left, and some of the people I thought would never stay, stayed. In the end of things I think everyone wins. Those that leave believe they won whatever it is they were aiming to win and I applaud them for that. I haven't read Wonder yet so you weren't the last lol. It took me a while to stand up to toxic people as well and in 2016, I finally started doing it. Life has gotten so much better knowing that I will stand my ground concerning boundaries and how I am treated by others. I have had those toxic friends too, criticizing everything I do and like. Family members are definitely the hardest. You know my mom is Narcissistic and an addict, which is very difficult to deal with. For so long I was very confused about her behavior compared to how my MIL treated me. I tend to be really trusting too so it is hard to understand why others would hurt you. I love the gallon/pint comparison. This video is truth!

Our daughter is a 35 year old drug addict and even though we have done everything to help her (rehab, etc. ) and it didn't work she turns the blame on my husband who is terminally ill. She'll tell him it's his fault and blames him for all of her life's woes. I made him listen to your video and he cried (hopefully understanding it's not his fault) as she is currently sitting in jail for driving under the influence of drugs and our phone rings constantly of her wanting us to bail her out and your video has finally made him say no more. I hope it sticks because her toxicity in our lives is shortening his. Thank you again.

I have grown up with two narcissists my whole life, my mom and my sister. As my only nuclear family members (my dad passed away when I was very young) I grew up conditioned thinking that I’m not worthy, that I’m not strong and that I’m not important. It has taken me so long (with the help of therapists and my wonderful partner) to just come to a realization that they have a problem, and I still have problems telling them “no!”. So I relate to you on many levels. Especially as a former addict (well we are addicts for life but I’ve been clean for 8 years now), I understand the toxicity of toxic people. But now I’m so closed off. I literally have no friends left besides my husband but sometimes I want/need a friend I can just call up and hang with, laugh with, share anything with...my best friend chose his boyfriend over me. He acknowledges it and knows he does and tries to continue our friendship but he’s hurt me so much I don’t feel it’s genuine. So now I’m in this shitty state. So i don’t know what to do now.

I agree, getting rid of toxic people is a must, no matter who they are to us. My husband and I have had to remove family and very close “friends” because they were just so incredibly toxic to us. It’s been 6 1/2 years and couldn’t be happier without them!

What you said is so true, I was married to someone that who was so toxic and it took me so many years for me to feel that I was worth more. I finally divorced him and I am incredibly lucky to have found an amazing person who is not only my husband, but my best friend.

I was abusing my prescriptions and my medication for a week was gone in two days. Yesterday I was at my GP and she asked me if I needed a new prescription for my medication - it took a lot of strenght and refused the medication

Congratulations on 100k. That’s so exciting. I want to say thank you, Peter. You have helped me more than you can possibly know. My entire life I have been expected to be perfect. I was told to jump and expected to say how high and in what direction. When I didn’t perform to peoples expectations I was cut off, not spoken to, talked about and treated like I was lower than snail shit. My addiction to alcohol and drugs was a direct result of trying to find a way to deal with the stress of these situations. I stayed in a 17 year marriage full of mental and emotional abuse because “it was the right thing to do.” I left almost 2 years ago and have been sober for almost 20. My life now is amazing. I’ve learned to say no and it’s an amazing feeling. My boyfriend now has helped me see that life can be amazing with the right people in your life. Listening to you speak, the amazing quotes and the experiences you’ve been through have been so encouraging. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Peter. As a fellow addict in recovery, just celebrated 4 years! Removing toxic people from your life is never an easy thing because we love these people. I unfortunately had to do this with my dad, he changed upon remarrying and I don't know the man he's become. I needed to hear this so so so much, it was hard this year during the holidays without him but when I sat back and realized how amazing the people are in my life, it wasn't so bad after all. I got to spend time with my mom and we had a great Christmas together and I didn't let the issues with my dad, ruin our day. I'm so grateful to be sober and now I'm even more grateful for others out there going through a similar situation and it helps me feel less alone, we got your back, girl, no worries. I hope that John sees this and learns from it because I certainly have. 💚💚💚

Absolutely Oprah! 💙 I remember the day I turned 30 and I was like "I'm broken, I just can't anymore." I then turned around and made a thick line with everyone in my life and said "This is the line right here. No more." I did this with family and friends and it opened a new world of communication. Some people I thought would never leave left, and some of the people I thought would never stay, stayed. In the end of things I think everyone wins. Those that leave believe they won whatever it is they were aiming to win and I applaud them for that. The ones that stayed won because we grew better together, and I won because I had closure and could grow and finally feel a freedom I didn't know I had. 💙💙 Love you Peter, this video is really wonderful to see 💙💙

I haven't read Wonder yet so you weren't the last lol. It took me a while to stand up to toxic people as well and in 2016, I finally started doing it. Life has gotten so much better knowing that I will stand my ground concerning boundaries and how I am treated by others. I have had those toxic friends too, criticizing everything I do and like.
Family members are definitely the hardest. You know my mom is Narcissistic and an addict, which is very difficult to deal with. For so long I was very confused about her behavior compared to how my MIL treated me. I tend to be really trusting too so it is hard to understand why others would hurt you. I love the gallon/pint comparison. This video is truth!
Thank you Peter. This video really hit home with me. Our daughter is a 35 year old drug addict and even though we have done everything to help her (rehab, etc. ) and it didn't work she turns the blame on my husband who is terminally ill. She'll tell him it's his fault and blames him for all of her life's woes. I made him listen to your video and he cried (hopefully understanding it's not his fault) as she is currently sitting in jail for driving under the influence of drugs and our phone rings constantly of her wanting us to bail her out and your video has finally made him say no more. I hope it sticks because her toxicity in our lives is shortening his. Thank you again.

Ahhh you are such a amazing person. I've been having a rough time for a while but I'm going to watch your videos while getting up for school (especially your video from yesterday ..I think) everyday to help me take that first step get through. The fact that someone tried to tear you down and you comeback stronger with nothing but sending positivity makes me respect you even more (high key one of my role models now). I hope one day I'll be able to get to a place where I can fully embrace a similar outlook on life to yours. I am trying to better myself and this person just doesn't want me to. It is so hard to separate yourself from them when they are always around and won't leave.
