It's great to see you back! Your approach to the hobby feels so genuine and true to you, it's very inspiring. Can't wait to see some star wars content, I'd love to see how you'd personally approach making scatter terrain for Shatterpoint given the slightly different scale to 40k etc
IMHO - Best and freshest miniature game in a long time! Coming from GW (AoS and 40k), Infinity, Bolt Action and Legion - it is easily my favorite game and hits the design, hobbying and fun sweet spot! That it is not like 95% of other games and provides a new challenge was another big selling point.
We just played our first game last night. I love how the combat dice/cards work for each unit. I’ve been playing a ton of Shadows of brimstone and this is a great switch up. Not too much to manage and it’s fast. I’m 45 and Star Wars has always been a favorite universe to enjoy. Hell I used to wish I had a light saber as a kid. Ow I work with a GTT torch, it’s practically a real light saber XD
Hi josh. I have the same detolf you have in the background to display my miniatures. I bought some of those clear plastic Nail Polish display racks off amazon and it's a brilliant way to display your minis. It's like an invisible set of stairs.
Really enjoying Shatterpoint. I do mostly lean towards skirmish level games (blood bowl and Necromunda being my usual poison) but I really like the dynamism of Shatterpoint's gameplay, and the even more reduced model count is great. I do find it weird they added another scale to the SW model range, and feel like they could have used the Legion scale for some nice gateway gaming, rather than splitting the player base. Can't wait for that Ewok warband. :)
Yeah, it would have been cool to be able to use Legion stuff for Shatterpoint but I actually like that larger scale more. Also yes, that ewok warband looks amazing, I can’t wait to paint it!
So AMG said that they started working on this shortly after the success of MCP. Asmodee have the rights to all Star Wars tabletop games so gave the project the green light. Then a year later, Asmodee moved all miniatures games over to AMG, so FFG lost X-Wing, Armada and Legion. At this point, Shatterpoint was already a year in development so they decided to not backpedal to make the models the same scale. Kind of a shame, cos having models be supported for both games would be amazing. But at the same time, I can fully appreciate that having to develop rulesets for both games that are balanced and suitable would be a real strain and probably affect what characters they would work on (ie, a character may work well in legion, but not make any sense in Shatterpoint etc.)
@@ThePickleJar oh, yeah the larger scale is great in isolation, as is the more cartoon-inspired art direction compared to Legion's more realistic/live-action style. It's more just from a business perspective, it doesn't make sense to me. Sort of... I mean I do see that there'll be some people who buy both, but I feel like you're missing many more who might translate between systems if they could use the same models. One real downer I have about the game is the rulebook. The rules and game is great fun once you decipher them, but the rulebook is shockingly badly written... And as I said, I play Necromunda with it's 48 different Rulebooks to cross-reference... (slight exaggeration :P) Anyway, love seeing SWSP content - looking forwards to more. :)
@@_tensketch oh, cheers for the info. I wasn't aware that AMG was a different company to FFG during the development cycle - I just assumed they (Asmodee) decided to silo board games, card games and miniatures games under their own umbrellas but the people on seats were all the same from day-to-day. That does make some sense then... And does explain too why Legion is getting its own skirmish rule system to compete with their other skirmish rule system...
I love seeing someone find a game system that just resonates with them. The fight system sounds a little like Arena Rex which is a superb elegant duelling ruleset with stunning larger scale minis. Looking forward to more vids about this game.
I love the art, the style, the skirmish nature. And the quality is top notch. I hope the best for the game. It deserves a lot of attention. I fear it will not get the proper support for the long term. No one seems to play in my club and location. I currently just got into Legion and I only plan to play narrative games and campaign games and will lightly homebrew things for these smaller skirmishes type games. So I see no space atm for Shatterpoint, personally. Sidenote: Most places don't care if you mismatch your army in 40k, as long as the silhouette far points and base is correct, it's all good for most stores and tournamnets (near 90%). So go ahead and claim a space marine is leading a sister unit and proxy him as your sister superior. Or mix your joint operation of Salamanders and Ultramarines. It's definitely not the norm, but it's okay.
Glad to see you back! Glad you’re having fun with Shatterpoint! Always good to find a game you love! I’ve skipped on Shatterpoint because of the scale. I already have enough scales and I made a decision to not add even more scales to it. Models need to be usable in multiple games for me now. But the game does look cool
Good to see you back. Nothing wrong with telling us why a game excites you. If it was sponsored by Shatterpoint then yes, it's a problem but as with Dana Howl, you may have been hooked with the freebie but it is your own money that has been put in after (by the way you two would be a drug dealers dream). The best content on YT is always the stuff that the presenters are genuinely excited by so if this is the case keep it up. Personally Shatterpoint doesn't interest me but I still watch the vids from the creators who obviously love it (that's you, Dana and Jay over at Eons of Battle althoughhe seems tobe less about the gameplay).
I recently came to the same realisation, that if I’m excited about something then the content will show that. I’m proper loving it and can’t wait to get more stuff painted up. Cheers for watching and thank you, it’s good to be posting again :)
Shatterpoint is such a great game, and the only one I'm playing outside of my D&D campaign. I have my scenery in a more 'lower levels of coruscant' style, with some graffiti and tags over it. I just need to get my minis finished now. I really want to see your Asajj, and the Witches of Dathomir
That sounds like a nice alternative scheme for the terrain. I've painted Asajj (pictures can be found on my Instagram) and I'll hopefully be working on the Witches soon.
Nice to have you back with a great video. 100% agree on Shatterpoint, lovely little individual projects that can be painted as and when, none of this painting 20 of the same model jazz.
I'm really enjoying Shatterpoint too, I've played both Legion and MCP but as you said the small unit count you can jump into Shatterpoint with and start playing was really appealing to me. It would be great if you could do some batreps and all your minis look awesome. 👌😁
I think it doesn't matter what you like as long as you enjoy the hobby and all that goes with it. I've just bought the new Zombicide figure packs today... Ahem... only 'Iron Maiden' figures. Not got the game just want the figures and looking forward to getting them on the old cutting mat and flexing all my paints (Album covers at the ready for Eddie).
That sounds awesome, divv do my know they’d done Iron Maidrn Zombicide. Did you see the album cover busts that were on Kickstarter earlier this year? I’ve got number of the beast ordered, can’t wait to paint it
@@ThePickleJar Yes my mate linked me in to the painting of one on here, and then I saw the price tag and thought...Hhmm.. But yes got the email from BGG and it said Iron maiden zombicide, had to look and then went to Gameslore one on back order and then Wayland games had them all in. Bingo.
I moved from X-Wing to Legion and I have the entire first wave of Shatterpoint ready to be painted. I'm excited to try it but I think Legion is gonna be my go to purely for the spectacle of seeing your fully painted army on the table. This video has made me wanna get started painting my Shatterpoint stuff though and I know I'm gonna struggle to pick a favourite game once Boba Fett gets added. You excited for AMGs ministravaganza in mid Sept?
Yeah I have a huge droid army for legion that I’ve been working on (on and off) for 2 years now. I’ve also got a pretty decent sized imperial force for x-wing (which I also love) so the Star Wars games definitely get love in my house. Also yes, cannot wait to see what they’ve got coming :)
Skirmish.. star wars. The only way that can be even better is if the rules are good. Don't know that, but I will go to a demo play and hopefully learn this weekend.
I don’t understand why they’ve gone for a different, non mainstream scale (it’s 40mm isn’t it?). I’m not going to be buying and making loads of terrain for a new, unique scale when I already have loads of 28/32mm scale terrain for Legion, Warhammer, Bolt Action etc. Although the figures do look cool, I won’t be getting it. Glad you’re enjoying it though!
Game looks like a nice break from the warhammer scale of armies. Plus Clone wars/Prequel characters is great, now some of my favorite Star Wars content. Just have 100 gaunts to get thru...
I was hoping they would add Star Wars characters to Crisis Protocal so we could have Vader vs Dr Doom or Ahsoka vs Spider-man. But a third Star Wars miniature game in a third scale? Not interested. Star Wars just isn't that interesting anymore.
Welcome back :) Unfortunately, while the rules are fun, the 40mm scale is not forgivable as I see this as nothing more than a game “paywall” as the terrain is not usable with 28-32mm. It’s not even the price - I think at 8-10 models for a hero (4-5 for $50) is completely reasonable in todays market … but imagine those as hero’s in legion with skirmish rules . I think this is a licensing issue as it’s a scale that wouldn’t have been in the initial FFG license (complete guess) I look forward to the day when these manufacturers add their STLs to the purchase

I haven’t watched the video but I agree with the title! It’s the first game in ages that has gotten me to go out to my LGS to play! More than once!
Same! I usually only play with friends at home but this game has gotten me to go to my LFGS too.

That’s a fair point, you’ve gotta weigh up the use you’ll get out of them too.
All of your shorts and insta content on this game has been awesome. This is a great talky video!
Cheers Dave, been nice doing the shorts/reels recently.

@@ThePickleJar It’s worth the time in my opinion. I’d hold off on getting a base box though, they have a revised starter box coming out.
