Haven't heard of this one before but that's what I absolutely love about your channel, shining light on these uncommon gems! The animation quality looks incredible, more like a ova anime than a 26 episode series. As always thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! The animation is so good for a TV series especially after the HD remaster for the Blu-ray release. The colors really pop out and look so vibrant. Thank you for your support and I’ll definitely keep putting out new videos.
This show sounds interesting I might give it a watch. Also another very underrated show I don't hear ppl talk about is Zoids. I wish that would get more love.
I just finished watching this anime on Amazon. To be honest… I can see it being rebooted somehow. It’d be pretty cool. Though it’s old school I can see lots of potential in it. I mean… on one hand Gorg reminds me of Optimus Prime but on the other hand everyone is pretty cool in the whole show. Except Doris cause in the middle she got a little annoying.
I randomly stumbled across the opening when listening to retro mecha anime openings, and immediately wanted more, and I agree that this gem needs more people to see it shine
Gorg is really good, but what hurt the show was exactly what you praised. The show had all the character development, art, a solid story and a legendary director. But it failed to resonate with kids and it didn’t have the robot toy merchandise hurricane that funded the shows. Without a strong toy flying off shelves, it was a commercial failure. YAS had had bad luck with that. Crusher Joe was a criticial success but the toys an model kits sat on shelves and ended up being shipped overseas just to get rid of them. Venus Wars was terrific. But a failure. Arion got a huge amount of promotion but didn't develop a huge fanbase. YAS is really good at making good anime. The second Crusher Joe OVA is one of my all-time animes. It would make an epic Hollywood blockbuster. YAS has it. But the audience often doesn't get it.
VOTOMS is great but I feel like it’s talked about and praised more than Giant Gorg. For example checking Myanimelist, there are only 1442 users who have watched Giant Gorg compared to 6297 for VOTOMS. Honestly though I was just struggling to come up with a title that sounded interesting and thought it sounded better than “One of the better 80s mecha anime” or something like that haha. Thank you for watching!
The story according to the creator Yoshikazu Yasuhiko(Gundam 0079 character designer), is a modern take on Treasure Island. Mecha design is done by Mamoru Nagano who did Gundam Zeta, Five Star story and L-gaim, almost every creatives in this anime is god tire no need to catch the monster of the week/ super robot trend which had fatigue in the 80s. all giant robot originated from Tetsujjn No.28 by Mitsuteru Yokoyama, then he did Giant robo manga&TV which is the most likely inspiration for Gorg’s operating style at the beginning. I don’t understand in which way do you think Gorg copied Mazinger in any form?
@@akiyamato3299 Secret island discovered with ancient technology and two sides, one good and one evil, making use of said technology for different reasons. That's part of Mazinger's story, the prelude to the 70s animated series taken out of the Manga. EVEN the top of the robot's head looks like Mazinger's Pilder docking station, but missing its best part, the Pilder!

Giant Gorg is great, but most underrated? I'll take that and raise a VOTOMS.

The fundamentals of this story are a copy of MAZINGER Z, which would explain why this anime wasn't very popular←🤔
