I worked for my local paper, and last year, I covered a knife show at the neighboring town. One of the vendors had a sword that was featured on this show, and when they pretentiously asked if I had seen it, they got flustered when I said no. That's small-town "fame" for ya.
I actually used to watch this show when it first came out. The show was initially just like you showed, with skilled blademakers (10+ years experience) competing in a forge, etc. The later seasons get a little looser. They start getting really inexperienced smiths and add all kinds of twists, like forcing them to work outside with a coal forge when most of them have only worked with gas, or making them search through a pile of scrap metal to forge their blades. The quality quickly slid.
I'd like you to take a look into an old show I loved when I was little called The Chamber. Each contestant had to answer questions while subjected to fire, ice, water, winds, ext. while strapped into a chamber. They had a device on them that alerted the people on the show if the contestants needed to stop.
A while ago i couldnt figure out what to watch on netflix so i tried the 'random' button and it gave me this show. I love this show, it's insanely good. I passed by it in my 'suggestions' so many times because i thought it was going to be stupid af. Glad netflix decided to be like "LOOK AT THIS SHOW YOU NIMROD!!!" Side note: It's actually KEAL (Keep everyone alive), if anyone is wondering why they are allowed to say 'kill'
I am an unashamed fan of this show. It is my dad and I's favorite show. It is honestly so wholesome and I genuinely learnt a lot from it. Like it pushed me to take a forging class and make my own knife!
We had someone from my tiny hometown, and who I went to school with, go on this show and actually win! It was a big deal. Everyone had big watch parties the night it aired and they still talk about it today. It was pretty cool to see.
I love this show so much. My grandpa and uncles were always doing this type of stuff in the garage. Now that they're not around its like a hit of nostalgia every episode! Like watching grandpa out there.
So, a couple of things as someone who unironically loves this show lol The Runner-Up DOES get his weapon back, it's mailed to them after the show, so they get to keep their work. And regarding the contestants able to hear the judges, the forge is extremely loud between the forges and the hammering and power tools going off, most of them actually wear some form of ear protection
Ryu is the type of dude you need around you that can make something out of nothing when you need it. Him making that axe with that forge is nothing short of awesome.
Forged in Fire is a pretty great show. Something i've noticed, there's never been like... Disrespect on this show. Y'know how someone will typically talk a lot of shit or like sabotage their competitors in some way or another? None of that bullshit here. In fact, i've seen multiple times they've actively helped one another during the competition. Edit: you adding all the disrespect they aren't saying is hilarious, keep doing these
I'm surprised you didn't address the stock guitar riffs during the coconut cutting segment. The smash cut to the fire truck got a harder than normal chuckle out of me. Another great video.
Watched this a lot with my parents, we love it! Smithing is such a cool (sadly dying) profession and while I could never do it it‘s cool to watch, the wholesomenss and good vibes between the contestants is great too :) watching the blade testing is just satisfying, you‘re just watching cool knives cut through things (or occasionally fail). „this blade will kiiiilll“ is also a running gag between me and my parents now I feel like I should mention there‘s a very similar show called „the butcher“ that‘s literally about people cutting up meat into nice expensive parts but in the same competition format, also pretty cool
I love Forged in fire. I thought it was pretty lame at first but I got sucked into the trap of it will keel. Not all are great but it makes me want to forge a knife but sadly I don't have the room or the fire insurance to try.
My dad absolutely loooves this show as someone who restores old axes and knives, literally one of his guilty pleasures lol he really enjoys telling me all the mistakes that the constants make and how he’d do something differently from them. I loved this video and hope you watch more episodes!
This show constantly reminds me that just because people seem to be doing better than you doesn't mean they are. Watching this episode I swore Ryu was gonna lose the forst round while the others seemed confident and he ended up eith one of the better products.
I absolutely love this show. Hell, inspired me to start forging Also, in regards to the weapons... Only the winner doesn't get the weapon back. The other finalist gets theirs back after the show runs
The one judge who says "it will kill" is hilarious to watch. When the blades don't work, he gets this look and tone about him that makes me fear for the lives of drifters near his house.
My favorite episode was one one of the blacksmiths finished like an hour ahead of time; turned his blade in, requested a coffee (which he got) and a newspaper just for his blade to snap in half during the first swing of testing. 😂
Love this show. Awesome that you're covering it and I'd love to see more. You gotta review a show called 'Solitary' one day. That show was NUTS. Like the fact that several seasons exist - let alone a single episode - is just ridiculous.
In 2019 I worked in Oslo, Norway for a year. My tv only had one English speaking channel and this show was on 90% of the time. 5 years later and I still watch this show on the regular
One running gag we have from this show is "getting commended". If your knife is completely hosed with an hour left and there's no chance to fix it you probably should quit, but unless the medics drag you off they will not let you. And when you do turn in a piece of metal that's about as close to a knife as the average rock they say "we commend you for sticking with it to the end" or something similar with "commend". When we watch any other reality show, when things go bad we say you can't quit because you need to "get commended".
You asked the question: what if none of them met the criteria of the first round? This has happened. I don't remember very well but I believe that they just eliminated the worst blade and moved onto the next round anyways.
I watched this show while doing hw and I remembered thinking it was so unfair that they didn’t help ryu with his setup since he didn’t even have a proper place to heat the metal but then he won anyway and I was like damn……nevermind then…. Glad you covered this!!
" All right, gentlemen, first we're going to put your axe through the kill test. Phil, come on out." Lmaoooooo!!! That actually got an audible laugh from me & that's rare.😂
For reference, 3 hours is actually wicked fast to forge a knife. Alec Steele is a blacksmith on UA-cam who tries the challenge and he consistently points out how much planning and time management you need to have on point to turn out a finished blade in that time
Chris, my roommates have been watching you for a solid year now all your content and I have to say we've been waiting for this and we all need more of you covering this show!!!!
My friend Fermin Lopez a Puerto Rican was a Forged in Fire champion he appeared on the show in 2019, and 2021 he was on the military special representing the Army he was a helicopter medic. Hey, one of the judges, David Baker, the guy with the cool moustache, was also on Deadliest Warrior! I was watching the Hannibal vs Genghis Kahn episode and David Baker made some of the weapons that they tested
I just got taco bell, got home thinking "I feel like watching some chris james is perfect for my meal", and opened youtube to see this at the top of my recommended ❤
"I feel like consuming some cheap garbage that has somehow been rearranged into something that's actually enjoyable. The food should be pretty good too."
I worked for my local paper, and last year, I covered a knife show at the neighboring town. One of the vendors had a sword that was featured on this show, and when they pretentiously asked if I had seen it, they got flustered when I said no. That's small-town "fame" for ya.
Love that you did a video on this show! I genuinely love it and watch it all the time.
20:40 Heeeey nice Buster Sword in the background. Okay, officially rooting for Ryu.
I got a friend we watched a marathon of this for literally 10 hours. Please Chris keep reviewing these I was cracking up
I'd like you to take a look into an old show I loved when I was little called The Chamber. Each contestant had to answer questions while subjected to fire, ice, water, winds, ext. while strapped into a chamber. They had a device on them that alerted the people on the show if the contestants needed to stop.
That and Solitary 2.0
A while ago i couldnt figure out what to watch on netflix so i tried the 'random' button and it gave me this show. I love this show, it's insanely good. I passed by it in my 'suggestions' so many times because i thought it was going to be stupid af. Glad netflix decided to be like "LOOK AT THIS SHOW YOU NIMROD!!!"
Side note: It's actually KEAL (Keep everyone alive), if anyone is wondering why they are allowed to say 'kill'
Ryu is my hero!! Seeing someone else Filipino on the show made me so proud of him especially when he won.
Doug is also Filipino. "It will cut"
I love this show! There's nothing else like it
"it will keel" 😂
My father and I loved this show! Taught us a lot about forging.
I actually loved Ryu's "work" ethic. He was cool.
I only wish you made daily content, dude. Another great episode, Chris. 🤙
this is literally my favorite show, me and my buddy made a drinking game out of it and we throw it on all the time lol.
What's the rules of this game you speak of
The presentation of James' "blade" freakin' killed me! Holy hell 😅😅
I love this show so much. My grandpa and uncles were always doing this type of stuff in the garage. Now that they're not around its like a hit of nostalgia every episode! Like watching grandpa out there.
So, a couple of things as someone who unironically loves this show lol
The Runner-Up DOES get his weapon back, it's mailed to them after the show, so they get to keep their work. And regarding the contestants able to hear the judges, the forge is extremely loud between the forges and the hammering and power tools going off, most of them actually wear some form of ear protection
Used to watch this show all the time and even remember this episode. Had me cracking up when you pointed out that Phil looked like the judge 🤣
Ryu is the type of dude you need around you that can make something out of nothing when you need it. Him making that axe with that forge is nothing short of awesome.
Dude seems like a real Macgyver when it comes to fire and metal.
Edit: you adding all the disrespect they aren't saying is hilarious, keep doing these
in my high school zoology class, instead of learning anything on Fridays, the teacher would just put on episodes of this show
This is definitely one of the better reality gameshows. I don't mind it so much. also, Ryu's buster sword that he had at home was sick!
I think every smith makes a buster sword or a Dragonslayer at some point lmao
I made one out of leaf springs back in highschool.
This episode was so funny, awesome work Chris! Until next time.
„this blade will kiiiilll“ is also a running gag between me and my parents now
I feel like I should mention there‘s a very similar show called „the butcher“ that‘s literally about people cutting up meat into nice expensive parts but in the same competition format, also pretty cool
kinda weird seeing master chris doing a video on a show i genuinely use to watch. now i know how everyone else feels about
My boyfriend was obsessed with that show. I sat down and watched all the episodes with them.
Dude, I actually burst out laughing for real when you said, "And also, I don't know how." LOL
dude! me and my brother binged watched this show! it was so fun to watch. there are definitely some silly part lol
1:40 phil did you learn that in prison?
I love this show, thanks for covering it!
I absolutely love this show. Hell, inspired me to start forging
Also, in regards to the weapons... Only the winner doesn't get the weapon back. The other finalist gets theirs back after the show runs
I legit love this show. Idk why I find it so entertaining. Every time I use a knife, I think to myself, it will cut.
I unironically watch this show lol
The one judge who says "it will kill" is hilarious to watch. When the blades don't work, he gets this look and tone about him that makes me fear for the lives of drifters near his house.
please do more of these this is one of my favorite shows
I love this show. It'd be awesome to see you cover more episodes! There are some great ones with lots of cringe and terrible blades
My favorite episode was one one of the blacksmiths finished like an hour ahead of time; turned his blade in, requested a coffee (which he got) and a newspaper just for his blade to snap in half during the first swing of testing. 😂
Oh my god, iconic
You are my favourite UA-camr! You’re content is so fun 😂
Love this show. Awesome that you're covering it and I'd love to see more.
You gotta review a show called 'Solitary' one day. That show was NUTS. Like the fact that several seasons exist - let alone a single episode - is just ridiculous.
How many of us are like "oh ya I forgot how ridiculous and stupid this tv is"? Chris thinks of the funniest and unique ideas
Absolutely loved forged in fire. But, I think I loved Chris’s breakdown even more. This page just keeps getting better
Chris your sense of humor is impeccable lol I needed this laugh lmbooo 😂
Chris i love all your content you tea make me laugh no matter what you react to you do such a good job ❤ sending love from Ireland 🇮🇪 ❤
I love this show to the point where I binge watch it. I mean yeah is it cringey yeah but it’s really interesting and hilarious.
In 2019 I worked in Oslo, Norway for a year. My tv only had one English speaking channel and this show was on 90% of the time. 5 years later and I still watch this show on the regular
Honestly this show is pretty good. These guys are dedicated to their craft. One of the guys from where I’m from was on this.
That quick cut to the fire truck was hilarious 😂
" All right, gentlemen, first we're going to put your axe through the kill test. Phil, come on out." Lmaoooooo!!! That actually got an audible laugh from me & that's rare.😂
For reference, 3 hours is actually wicked fast to forge a knife. Alec Steele is a blacksmith on UA-cam who tries the challenge and he consistently points out how much planning and time management you need to have on point to turn out a finished blade in that time
Me and my dad watched this show together almost every week and despite its flaws it will always hold a place in my heart
Farriers actually use blacksmithing to custom fit the shoe on the horse. So it was a legit thing to bring up.
Alright the challenge of turning a goddamn spring into a useful knife in three hours is insane
Forged in Fire is genuinely one of my favorite shows.
“It will keel” used to love this show. The tests at the end are hilarious
Me and him were in a classic VW club in Winston-Salem NC. He makes great cutlery and knifes. His company is Taino knifes. Just kind of cool seeing my friend on TV.
Honestly, of course I watch it for the cheesiness, but I respect the show for having people who are like, actually good at their craft and showcasing it well. Of course it suffers from the reality TV overdramatization, but there's a lot to like about Forged in Fire imo. One of the best competition shows on TV.
