She once sketched me in 1965 (ish) when I was singing in Maiden Lane in SF. She had a gallery show there. Someone told me she was sketching me, but I didn't like her big eyed paintings. Boy do I wish I had checked it out. Long gone.
She was known for her "big eyes" cat and dog paintings. There are lots of prints out there of her work; I have had a few of them over the years. They were known as "GIG" paintings.
Jen Mcsnot I think there amazing, but I guess that's the thing about art, Ive herd people say they were ugly, I don't get that but I would love one of these. As soon as I get a good job I'm gonna see if I can get one if any are left.
@@nobodysbaby5048 I may well be a horrible person but that is still terrible art. Suffering from any type of abuse doesn't give you immunity from facing critics if you decide to put your work in front of the public.

I mean it was the fashion of anime and manga that started in Japan in the 50's and became popular with GeGeGe no Kitarō. He may have been painting big eyes before his wife, but so were many other artists.
I know her personally. She is a wonderful caring person who volunteers her time to help people in many ways to improve their lives.
Sounds like a fish story.
@@dougdavis8986 ABSOLUTELY TRUE! BTW she recently died. I was privileged to attend her memorial service.

The movie was called Big Eyes and the costuming was done by multi Oscar winner Colleen Atwood.

She was crying I saw a moving tear
Her huge eyes are creeping me out! 😨😱😳
Me, too. It's like she's alien (otherworldly), or supernatural.
I thought this was going to be Screen Rant doing a Pitch Meeting for Antiques Roadshow based on that painting’s eyes
Rembrandt is shedding a tear also
Well said!!!
Beautiful painting 🖼
I LOVE THIS‼️
Kitsch. The woman has better taste than hubby.
Those goofy eyes remind me of those awful Precious Moments figurines.

i kinda like those they are tacky in a cute way
Circa 1965? I don’t think so. That was signed by Margaret as herself. She did not announce that she was the painter until 1970.

How sad. I want to learn more about this artist's ordeal.

BS I went to school with Walters son, and he absolutely was painting the big eyes before Margaret even entered his life.
