Respecting your opponent was the key for me. During the holidays I was having strong ladder anxiety until I wrote "Merry Christmas" or "Happy New Year" before the game to my opponent and it helped so much.
Are you a psychology major or something? You might have done this for shits and giggles but this is actually so wise. This can be applied for may more than starcraft too. Thanks for the video!
This is the kind of stuff anyone who's playing StarCraft day after day for years in a row had to think about. But yes, the clarity with which he has analyzed these issues and discussed them is outstanding!
I just did a quick research on him this is what I found : "After earning a Bachelor's of Science in Cognitive Science at UTD, he played online poker in Vancouver, Canada. During the poker venture, he studied books on managing tilt and improving mindset and seeks to bring this advantage to eSports."
This was one of the first videos I watched when getting back into starcraft, and it definitely helped me enjoy my time playing starcraft a lot more. Gotta put in the reps!
Indeed, although alphastar is pretty shit. Pretty much every pro beat it on the ladder but it still beat most master guys which is nice. Really hope the yannounce a new version at Blizzcon that can trouble the pro's
First of all, thanks for the amazing and cool vid. It's really easy to stuck in the mindset, "I suck as a player". Because we all do. Except Serral Clem and really just a few guys in the game. Basically no matter what league is. Silver, platinum, diamond. Now me personally awaiting for the next guide: how to have games and not to be super strrressed xD I got up to 3600 but 1v1 is so much stress that my heart rate and blood pressure goes up on the loading screen already. So I have to play with elite AI only and it's really dumb. And coop ofc but it's really easy.
im gonna work on my creepsspread. and i spread some creep. there were more than zero tumors in the game. i died horribly to a 2base allin. but goddamit i was spreadin some creep xDDDDDDDDD
A way I learned to enjoy it; on your stream you made a meme of like "Defend!" when instead of getting mad I'm getting rushed or proxied, I tell myself that.
I have fun by pretending I am an evil galactic ruler and life is worthless to me... I mine ravenously and send waves of marines to their death in the name of overrunning my opponents and crushing their will to live.
Some find 1v1s in this aspect to be stressful and lacking. I find it reassuring. I know the only one who can make me lose is me, and that makes it easier to come to terms with losses.
It will be really good, if people will seek for fun in starcraft this way. Unfortunately there is considerable large group of frustrated masters/ diamonds that seek fun by intentional deranking and then seal clubbing beginners in silver/gold. Whether they relieve stress or just being trolls is unclear, but from a true beginner perspective, % amount of people you meet on ladder who do that is unhealthy high. You can tell that's the truth, when you check profile of your opponent after match and see that he was like 7 times master, now he's "silver" with 260 apm, plus in history of his games all his lost games are 00:01 long, usually multiple in a row. In my opinion deranking, unaddressed by Blizzard is one of the reason why so many new players wont stay. They simply don't want to be a food for trolls.
I guess if its creating an emphasis then I guess I need to start really low by just literally playing a ladder game or two a day even if im utterly clueless.
I recently started playing SCII, and got placed in Silver 2 on EU. I played a few more games and quickly got to Gold 2. I only played around 13 games in starcraft 2, and was wondering why the hell Im in Gold 2. I lost the next four games back to back and had to take a break for a day. It tells me that I will be demoted soon even. I'll continue today, and hope that I'll face easier opponents. I was watching ViBE's vids before I started playing for tips, and I believe its my macro that got me there, but man, I can't scout for sh** or micro one bit lol... I think that may be setting me back... I'm zerg, and have never used lings, banes, lurkers... only roaches and hydras. I'll focus on scouting when I play today, and use those four lings to check the opponents bases and try to react to what I see.
please help, how can i respect my opponent if they cannon rush me. (btw i have been cannonrushed in 16/23 of the matches i have played, started a few days ago)
Cannon rush is a legit strategy and one that works at all levels (pro included). Try to identify in which map you are most probably going to get cannon rushed, scout early, then try to pull only the necessary amount of workers to destroy the pylon quick enough. If your opponent is overextending on cannon rushes (multiple pylons, cannons), then he/she is probably low on econ so try to work on your macro then do a quick counter.
Yeah, I'd highly recommend that you burn only the necessary amount of workers to delay the cannons and work on getting some zealots, lings/roaches, or marines. It'll feel like you're losing but his econ will be significantly behind yours if you manage to kick him out.
Dont play this game plz 8 years of my life towards this im 19 in a week here and its such a waste, terran is so fuckin weak i can speak too that being 5k id say i understand this game more then most,so much unbalance its incredible, shame
