Remarkable interview, mostly because Ms. Dutt had little to say and had allowed the good professor to speak. The first audience question was hilarious and the professor missed an oportunity to rebut her angry question about why Hindu civilization needed to be taught when there was 800 years of Islamic rule followed by 200 years of British rule. Because, Madam, there was 2000+ years of Hindu civilization that preceded it. And very possibly another 2000+ years since the Indus Valley civilization was the ancestor of many current Hindu practices and stream of thought. The term "Hindu" as used by the professor broadly encompasses all of the Dharmic faiths and philosophies that are the indigenous civilization of the subcontinent. Much of which has been suppressed or relegated as an afterword or a chronicle of defeats in the JNU telling of our history. Just like Pakistanis, whose history telling starts with the invasion of Sindh, this lady apparently believes India's story only begins with the Islamic invasions, which were devastating and near fatal to the great civilization that existed before. The late, great Naipaul understood this wounding more perceptively than anyone at JNU, and was shunned by them for his troubles. He knew better than anyone that these were half-baked mimic men and women. Caricatures as exemplified by this lady, and Dutt, and Javed Akhtar.

    • @harshakumar104
      @harshakumar104 2 роки тому

I don't see how "JNU" has suppressed Indian history, or for that matter, the "Left" has done so. The history books I learnt in school DID tell me about the Indus Valley, the Cheras, Cholas, Pandyas, Harsha, Ashoka, all of them. Of course, they also told me about the Mughals, but I don't remember them painting Indian history as a series of "defeats." And I also don't see how the "Islamic" invasions, the way you put it, were devastating and "near fatal" to Hindu civilization. If anything, they appear to have had a very limited impact, given that even undivided India was still overwhelmingly Hindu. The problem stems from the view that you and many from the Right take that the Mughals were "Islamists" and therefore somehow outsiders. Apart from Aurangazeb, who was very recent, the Mughals were not Islamic in the sense that Islam is understood today. Yes, they might have followed Islam, but they were for the most part simply trying to hold on to power. So, well, the fact is, they are not really "outsiders" trying to harm some primordial uncorrupted Hindu civilization. They were just the last, or if you count the British, the second last in a long line of those who came to the subcontinent. Do you think that there was 2000+ years of "uninterrupted" Hindu civilization preceding the Mughals? Given the multiple documented (and God knows how many undocumented) visitors to the subcontinent, both invaders, and those who came in peace, it is highly unlikely. Indians are a mixed lot, and calling a bunch of people who came in 800 years back (if you count the "initial" Islamic invaders) as "outsiders" doesn't make sense. Importantly, what you understand as Hindu now doesn't follow from some unbroken essential Hinduism that has been practiced for 4000 years. Elementary history - even the "non JNU" type, and common sense will tell you that.

Rightly said, Integrity is most important than ideology. Good to see these people putting forth the views so nicely even with opposing thoughts being spoken. Yes, Barkha Dutt was the most admired journalist of her time. The biases she mentioned from the viewers is due to the fact of one sided views being aired to the liking of the journalist and their political inclination most often than not. National interest and delivery to the last and the least are more appropriate ways to assess the performance of the government. Every citizen must be accountable for their actions in nation building before they question the system. Finally, Dr. Paranjape has rightly said, hindus and muslim must learn to co exist, for this the muslims must accept of the vandalism that ruined the Hindu culture in the past and they must feel that they are the citizens like the rest of us rather than living in the vague sense that they are the ones who ruled the country for the last 1000 years and hence superior to the rest.

The main problem is that Muslims blindly believe that Quran is the word of God and their Prophet was God's messenger.
Why did God choose a human being to send a message to other humans?
If you were God, wouldn't you send a divine being with superhuman abilities so that humans know only God could have sent him? At least, wouldn't you send a magical book with divine properties so that humans know that it was not created by another human?
Or would you reveal your word to a human being without anybody else as witness?

While it's true that Muslims have a literalist interpretation of the Quran, it is also true that Hindus see their texts as the gospel truth as well that's why there is an entire movement and political campaigns around considering mythology as "itihasa". Parents send their wards to universities to learn things and become a better human being, but political parties who have infiltrated these organizations poison the young minds with their ideology. Nothing that they are doing should be criticized but everything they say against the whole world should be accepted at face value. JNU has become what an academic institute should never be.

I watched to see how the discussion has formed.
The start itself was extremely promising and brutally truthful. This is what as a HINDU NATIONALIST, I want to see.
Credit to Ms. Dutta that she has grown up from limiting responses from asking opinions about her conclusions to asking questions to listen to the response, giving ample space.
This format is I want. And I, is the only one. This is the majority. That is how we can dismantle the lies wrapped around the truth.
The example of this truth wrapped in truth is the first audience question 'why cannot be India Story'. Obviously she thinks India as British which is not.

At 15:58 Ms. Dutt asks why Hindus want to be like the Islamists they abhor? The recent events underscore the incentive for mimicry. Some weeks ago a DU historian posted an incendiary tweet on Lord Shiva. While there were some muted protests on social media, the system protected the man and even celebrated his invective as a matter of free speech. Just days later the BJP spokeswoman made objectional remarks about the Prophet of Islam. This resulted in violent protests throughout the country, brought international censure, and now even champions of free speech are decrying the "blasphemy". A well-respected journalist like Shekhar Gupta said that freedom of speech should be proportional to to the receiver's ability to take offense! The message is clear, the system rewards roguish behaviour and hooliganism. No wonder the Hindus are mimicking the Islamists.

Cow matha meat meal eaters can do wazu (washing feet etc.) on the ultimate God of Hindus Baba Viswanatha and also drill God's swaroop but they can not tolerate indiscript cartoon or some sentence spoken in a discussion or speech. Those days have gone. NOW Hindus will not tolerate even a slightest provocation or even a single word against our Gods. If Hindu God also International God, then in case of blasphemy on Hindu God by mus of India whom meaning ambassadors of which mus nations shall India summon or to heads of which mus nations shall Indian PM/President shall address their letters to protest blasphemy on Hindu God? 5. Can these 56 mus nations/OIC nations imagine what it means doing WAZU ON IDOL OF HINDU GOD ? Can these OIC/MUS nations visualise drilling int IDOL OF HINDU GOD? 6. JUST BECAUSE MUS HAVE 56 PLUS MUS NATIONS AND HINDUS HAVE JUST ONE HINDU NATION DO THEY THAT IS MUS HAVE RIGHT TO DO WAZU ON HINDU GOD AND DRILL INTO IDOL OF HINDU GOD OR DO ANYTHINNG OF BLASPHEMOUS NATURE ON HINDU GODS? THESE FIT FOR NOTHING GULF/OIC/KATTAR MUS NATIONS MUST BE TOLD THIS STRAGHT ON THEIR FACE. EVERY SANATHAN ORGANISATION INCLUDING VHP MUST DO THIS WITHOUT LOSING ANY MORE TIME AND FORTH WITH. THIS IS IN REF TO QUATAR/OIC NATIONS' SUMMONING INDIAN AMBASSADORS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE NATIONS.

Barkha Dutt was one of leading voices during the UPA Government. She will try to centerstage Muslims, let the Kashmir dispute continue forever, and play a prominent figure when there is turmoil in India. She will naturally be uncomfortable when India peacefully prospers. Present day is her most difficult time.

This is the right time for the book to be released, the vessel is hot, hammer it!! Why one think kashmir files, was a huge success, 500 crores!!
With the old ppl scratching the wounds again & again, it will take a long time for ppl of india to heal or it might just break india in to many pieces!
The kind of knowledge you shared is fantastic but rest assured, many were none aware as very few ppl cared about it to such a large extent, until present govt came in to power!
The way you want ppl to acknowledge the history as it is, you have to understand, ppl are of different kinds & may not be on the same page as you! You can share your information but not impose it & it's not about integrity, it's about not being convinced enough!
Also old generation is wasting a lot of youths time, let me prove it to you!
Lets take the statistics, say ppl with age 0 to 10, they are in school, have you seen the syllabus today, it's loaded as competition everywhere, the students least care about history and just want the grades to look good! No one decides at this age, they want to be historian!
Now 10 to 20, they are getting in to their teens, lot of hormonal changes, they are figuring themselves out, trying to impress ppl they like and enjoying their love/friendship period, the last thing on their mind is history!
20 to 40, their career just started, some are still studying, some are figuring it out, some ppl are going international, but everyone is in this race & looking forward to make a meaningful journey, history is not the time now!
Now rest of the ppl, who have reached a comfortable position in their life, no loans, their pockets are full, they have good time to wile away and zero goals, retired ppl, they are the ppl who will be okay engaging themselves in history but they have no right whatsoever to corrupt the youth & Gen z who have great plans for their life!
Technology, Planet earth, development - self and country should have been the subject but the hot topic is history, religion & i wonder why, hit the hammer when it is hot!!!
It is not about right or wrong, it's about sanity which is need of the hour but ppl have learnt the formula of instant success that is hate, let's cash on it before it cools down, so be it the book writers or movie industry, no one wants to lose this opportunity and ppl (with no real goals) as usual, they are drawn to all this nuisance which is a good narrative but won't be helpful in their career or personal life/journey!!!

@@setu2712 a country and its people can't escape from its history. Truth will prevail if not today them tomorrow. If one hasn't burried the history there wouldn't have been the point of digging it. people have the right to know who they were and what happened to them. All the Lutyen gang and Marxist cheated this country just for their agenda for decades. They lied and made india a white canvas so, that every one could stereotype and give their own narrative. India remained a bankrupt nation with no mind and soul of its own. It imported the problems and even solutions from West. If you rob people of their identity, they would be left with nationalism. it's relieving to see today these people have no relevance today, not in either state or society. And history and science can go hand in hand. I can walk and chew gum at the same time. Lol

About Gyanwapi, can it cease to be a matter of religion but matter of truth, integrity and justice. Hindus won't go about asking for all 1000 temples to be restored, but at least The ones that hold a lot spiritual significance. Gyanwapi is a jyotirling, and ppl are washing their hand and feet. In hindu majority country, it is being reclaimed legally and not forcefully in itself speaks volumes that for Hindus humanity is above religion. And we'll be happy and grateful to muslims who contribute towards serving truth and justice, because they too have to uphold the sanctity of their religion, but in case they don't It will be done through courts. Professor is very good. Classification on Sanata Dharma is absolutely correct. There are 1000+ Universities in India including Central Universities, which are supposed to lay foundation for excellence in education, innovation, sports and overall personality development. There is lot of unnecessary focus on JNU which doesn't add any real value to the country except rabbler-rousing. Real committed workers come from grassroots across India who have real sense and responsibility for public service. Ideology concept has changed in the current times, very different from French revolution or Marx and students also should evolve. JNU is an overhyped place with many masquerading as self-proclaimed intellectuals supported by so called leftist liberalist media.

Professor, in the primeval and medieval periods, the practice was for the Victor's to destroy places of worship of the vanquished and replace it with their own.
The Greek and Roman Temples were replaced by the Churches after Constantine adopted Christianity. After the rise of Islam, the Churches were destroyed and replaced by Mosques in North Africa and West Asia.
In South Asia, Buddhist Viharas were replaced by Hindu Temples by the Shunga and Shashank and several Hindu Dynasties after 2nd BC.
After Islamic conquests, in Persia and India Temples were replaced by Mosques.
We need to ask should we in India still carry on with these medieval practices in modern India?
It is not the question of real estate on which a Shivling or Fountain is situated, but the question is whether we in India should learn to acknowledge such medieval practices and move India forward to the future.
If the Professor wants to restore pre- Islamic Hindu temples, then why not ask for restoration of pre- 8th Century Buddhist Viharas on which Hindu Temples were built? His argument against secularism being a Western concept is not on solid grounds.
The concept of secularism in the context of India as a multi-denominational State requires the State to maintain respectful and principled equidistance with all religions.
Secularism in Europe means withdrawal of Religion from matters of State, but the State can interfere if the Religion becomes intrusuve in personal lives of people.
In America, where the term secularism was defined, there is a clear separation of Church and the State.
In India, the State is becoming an actor in the Religion. It is allowing nationalism or patriotism to be defined by a religion despite India being a multi-denominational State.

I never thought I would actually see thru this podcast fully, but thanks to the guest, Makarand Paranjape ji over an unbiased statement.
The new reality of our time has changed : Yes, because Oppression against us according to the Leftists. It is OK because we are a majority and prosperous. Minorities should have special privileges because they have a dozen children and are poor.
Why someone from the Left Think Tank doesn't advice special minority to do family planning, have 2 children and educate them, so that they become prosperous too. Hindus are an easy and tolerant target.. go and pick on them and abuse them and their religion over practicing Caste System. For God sake, who practices caste system today. My bosses are SC/SC/BC/OBC,. Thanks to Reservations and cutoffs on percentage marks given to them by political parties, we are bound to follow their decisions, even though their IQ is lower and we can clearly see its wrong.
Today, even if we have Cold or Cough, Middle class has no choice but to visit a Private expensive hospital, because all General hospitals are full of RESERVATION Doctors that passed with 30% marks, and we don't believe in their treatment. Such doctors should be treating the politicians who gave them the reservations.
Stop taking us for granted and depriving us of our basic rights, it was not our choice to be born Hindu. The rules and privileges should be same for all. We do not want to pay the price of being born in some caste or religion. Thus far and NO further. Criticism should be free of Religious beliefs, its something personal and it applies to all including Left Think Tanks if we can still call them "think tanks".

Despite the bias that lurks behind everything Barkha Dutt says, I've been following MojoStory because she is trying to be more nuanced than anyone else - aside from Shekhar Gupta, who is the epitome of nuanced thinking in Indian journalism, not to forget Fareed Zakaria, Ian Bremmer from the global theater of journalism.
Finally, if she is able to get past her own biases (she can keep telling us how her left-wing friends are furious at her for doing so :) ), yet we welcome this refreshing change in her attitude.
As for professor Paranjape, the clear logical thought process and command over both English and Sanskrit, it is music to our ears!

I do agree with abt 95% with what he’s said, the only thing I don’t agree with is what he’s said abt the political motivation behind the sudden interests in these divisive topics. He says it was subdued before but that’s not that case, but ever since modi came it’s become volatile & contentious, whereas before 2014 NOBODY was scared to use the word Hindu nor found it apologetic, however now many of these RW andhbhakts (sorry to use that word) use it as an intimidation which is totally unnecessary. Hinduism is very diverse & it’s NOT an abrahamic religion, it’s far more evolved & accommodating where even an atheist can call himself a “Hindu atheist” coz it pertains to the spirituality of the Hinduism & not idol or figure worship.
