Thanks Mike, I can imagine that being very handy in certain circumstances, I have the original B&D "Powerfile" which doesn't have the advantage of being cordless but nonetheless is a handy get you out of trouble tool - great for adjusting mortice & tenon or halving joints on garden projects such as arbours & gazebos !
Hi Andy, I was surprised how much I've used mine. As stated in the video a client had one and I found I was using it all the time so I bought my own! Thanks for the feedback and for watching, its much appreciated.
This Ryobi R18PF Power file is terrible DO NOT BUY! it looks the part & works great. It runs using carbon brushes to conduct electricity in the rotating motor. Carbon brushes are slowly becoming obsolete in favour of brushless motors that use rotating magnets & a sensor which last many years longer than brushed motors. After maybe a few hundred hours of use the carbon brushes wear down to the point that they need replacing & brushes cost maybe £1 each. (usually 2 brushes in a power tool). It's relatively easy to replace them on power tools & a reasonable person would assume this can be done on all power tools! But not the Ryobi R18PF power file! Ryobi have deliberately sealed the metal motor casing permanently closed & for good measure to make damn sure 99.99% of people won't bother trying to cut their way inside to replace the brushes when they wear out, they have even welded a thick metal band around the tubular motor casing to make double sure you can't replace them! This is a form of sabotage so you have to buy a new power tool! Learnt this today & I am not impressed! Not sure whether I will cut the damn thing open with a mini disc cutter on a Dremel as it might take the entire day as a new plate will need making that can be removed, might be better to trash it & buy brushless or a brushed Makita power file!
