Excellent interviews- enjoyed listening to an intelligent discussion with JC without someone trying to confuse the debate by twisting word or using an aggressive unquestioning techniques
Woooo! Excellent video and discussion. 59:23 - I loved the last joke he made and her quick comeback. Mixed economy based on Libertarian-socialist values which have been lost to history 🤓🧐
Yaris, only from an enlightened mind, like yours, born in a land where the philosophy of Aristotle, of Socrates taught to the holders of power ,what power has to be, teaching them the art of ruling , the real new democracy as power of demos, can be born
The solution is so simple, everyone co-operating. If we live our lives for one another we do not need organizations, politicians, etc. We simply act for self and for others. It's no great leap, just eliminating to delusionary aspects of society... money, ownership, limitation, scarcity, etc. If we all live for one another we work for one another. That means we all create quality homes for all, grow quality food for all, have a quality life for for all. Quality not quantity. We already have the technological means to create homes, vehicles, etc, which can run from solar power, from wind/wave power. This present systems of politics have instilled a belief in scarcity, in limit resources, limited supply. That is all nonsense, designed so that the very few can have all while all have little or nothing. Take technology for instance. Remove the falsity that money is from research and development and what do we have, greater efficiency all round, greater quality. Money means control, and/or profit. Both these factors are unnecessary limitations. If we all lived in a state of unconditional co-operation universities would have all restrictions removed. So knowledge would not be a commodity but freely exchanged, openly debated, experimented, etc. Technology would be free from the limitation of businesses demanding exclusivity and profit as all technology would be developed for all people worldwide. It would naturally be sustainable and working with nature rather than against. Our health care would be likewise freed from the need for profit, from exclusivity, from exploitation of those suffering disease. Likewise, education would be specific to individuals. No more wasted effort, no more trying to fit square pegs into small round holes! Food production would obviously be fully automated and localized. All in all, we would be free to live a creative life rather than a functional one where we have to serve those who have declared themselves our masters. Consider it, co-operation, or enslavement to money, to masters.
Just to note: not just scarce land resources, but the monopoly or isolation intellectual property is also bad for the capitalist as it is bad for equality. For instance, we have intellectual properties in AI, would control the money and power of the next generations. There should be an amendment that prevent such things, or could we have take these intellectual properties for public ownership and public benefits.
Sounds good selected individuals from around the world to make decisions about what happens in another country perhaps citizens of an individual democratic country can't make decisions. Doesn't that sound a bit like what the 1% do? Or what the USA do? Is that democratic - letting citizens of other countries decide what happens where I live ...... still Yanis knows best ...
Nice talk Yanis Great econ/banking history w thuro facts & political references Don't teach kids macro finance&banking - ur presentation of concepts is unsystematic
Great thinker and very likeable to me. Greece however is still in a world of s@@@ and he had his little share on that back in 2015 by trying to overextend a negotiation with an infrastructure that simply was and still is non negotiable minded at the moment. Some people also should not forget that Communism (which is the logical end of progressive neo liberal thinking and postmodernism/neo feminism/ inclusive agendas , etc.) has nothing to do with democracy.
One can talk about the reasons why Trump got elected, but one has to understand that considering the entire population, including the ones that didn't vote, he won with the support of a minority. And from this minority, many voted with racial motivations, I don't see how this can be neglected. Talk about economics all you want, but when Yanis says that the same folk voted for Obama as for Trump, I think this is wrong.
Say what you will, but the man utilised old age fear mongering with explicit racist and bigoted remarks. Saying we shouldn't recognise this in our considerations of why he is president would be very remiss. Sure economics plays a roll and i'm sure many think that his type of business practices is the way the country should be run, sure some folks vote down party lines regardless of who or what they are, none the less don't ignore that fact that he still told millions what they wanted to hear, Religious Bigotry and Racism went a long way. Fact is, he is their, and he got their by spewing hate, fear, and misinformation (lies).
And I'm still waiting for you to concede that Racism and Religious Bigotry reinforced by fear mongering played an very important part of is current status. Many millions were either not bothered by what he said and still voted for him ( morally corrupt ), or liked what he had to say. ( morally corrupt ) " You're useless ", nice try.
Yanis is a genius, intelligent and sharp ! And he puts all those qualities into good use !
I ‘m bing watching Varoufakis. The best so far was his Ancient Greek example of using a slave as banker because citizens can’t be flogged.
A conversation between Yanis and Nassim Nicolas Taleb would be beyond awesome. Please make it happen! 🤘🏻
So great to hear his more recent discussions
