I think I've been in that place a few times as a kid. They had a wide selection of model cars you could purchase at about .99 cents + a pop. Of course, we didn't wear ridiculous mouth diapers back then. When viral epidemics rolled around we relied on our natural immune system to get thru the terrors. It must have served me well because I'm still alive to tell stories about that old place. Great video.
Wait, isn't this a video about a hobby shop? Where did the "ridiculous mouth diaper" remark come from? Sorry to burst your self-congratulatory bubble, but there were *_no_* epidemics in your lifetime that were anywhere near as infectious or as deadly as the current pandemic, which killed over half a million Americans in less than a year. Your "natural immune system" had nothing to do with it. Even after getting vaccinated, we'll need to keep wearing our masks and maintaining social distance for at least another year to make sure we protect others and stop the spread. Stay safe.
A great store to visit and do business with! The owners and staff are knowledgeable and ready to help answer any questions or technical assistance you may have. One of Chicagoland’s icons!
Had a chance to visit a few weeks ago. These guys were awesome. Really appreciated their knowledge and willingness to help with any request. Left with my arms full... Thanks!!
@@ericlikestowander7510 Eric, if you live in or visit Chicago again, you must also see America’s Best Hobbies in Itasca, and Chicagoland Hobbies in Chicago on Northwest Hwy. Both of these places offer a lot to see and buy. And just like Berwyn’s, some very knowledgeable and helpful people.
Looks like a nice place that could take many of us back (in our minds) to a simpler, more innocent time. Hard to get into much trouble in an old fashioned hobby store.
Man I miss a good old hobby shop! I used to live in chicago, and there used to be tons of them around the chicago area! My favorite one used to be trost hobby shop in 63rd near kedzie. Now gone! Then pats hobbies in oak lawn. There where so many! Is nice to see unlist one still going strong!👌😎👍I miss chicago!
Grew up in the Cicero/Berwyn area. Route 66 in Berwyn is Ogden Ave. Bought my son tons of Thomas the Tank Engine stuff back in the 90s at their original location a couple miles north on Harlem Ave. If I still lived close by I would be in there every weekend!
I've been there quite a few times. Good place to deal with. I grew up in nearby Oak Park and get back to the Chicago area from time to time. There are still a few good model train shops in the Chicagoland area. Unfortunately, Al's in Elmhurst closed quite a few years back. "Berwyn's Toys & Trains" (it's official name) has a lot of 3-Rail O gauge stuff. I volunteer in a railroad museum and suggest to parents that an electric toy train set is one of the cheapest toys you can buy. They don't understand since a small set with everything needed can be $200 or $300. I suggest they look in their kid's closet at all the toys that cost something like $26 and were played with for 6 minutes and the kid got bored. Not so with trains. The kid will re-arrange track, add to it. Involve other toys. I explain that what is REALLY going on is that it makes for a kid-controlled world. Not everything has already been worked out by adults. And they will likely play endlessly with the stuff. And it is something different than looking at a smartphone/iPad/Monitor/TV/Gaming screen.
BERWYN ????? .....yup, a Svengoolie fan from down in Eastern Tennessee ..... nice shop and displays ..... sad that places like this are few and far between ..... thank you for the tour
This is too cool, on the train track is that the store in miniature size at the corner next to the fire station is that a replica at 2:06 of the store ?
Yeah I'm have drive all over everywhere jus to find em well I do my end of pandemic vacation at same time. Hey get to meet all you great American folks I meet along the way
Last time I was there they had a huge collection of model kits, some dating back to the early 1960s! Prices reasonable. I walked out with seven old Airfix, Revell and Lindbergh kits for just under $100!
This video started so Blurry I wasn't sure if it was a Bigfoot or UFO video . Thanks for the information . I remember when I was a kid my Mom bought me a bag of Army men , I thought it looked strange so I asked my Dad to take a look at the soldiers that Mom got for me . Well my Dad started to get hot under the collar and red-faced . He had me go and get Mom . Dad asked her if she had taken a good look at the bag of Army men ??? She said that they all looked the same except for the color of the plastic . He handed her one holding up a flag and said take a closer look at the flag . It was a bag of WW 2 Japanese soldiers with a bonsai combat flag . And my Dad was a Marine cor veteran of WW 2 . Well Mom said that I just got a bag of targets for my other Green soldiers . My Dad just let it slide . But they all went AWOL sometime later .
I used to live close to there, bought a lot of plastic models from them. Cool vintage style store, very nice people, nice to see they are still there. Also Al's hobby shop in Elmhurst is similar.
If that devil giraffe didn't invent video games and plastic outdoor play houses while offering a wider selection and at the same time providing more jobs for your generation than hobby stores did the world would be a better place indeed...
Great Looking Hobby Shop. I wish them much success.

I'm here just about every Saturday morning. Love this place!!
My first hobby club in El Paso used to do that, I miss being in a hobby club.

There use to be a hobby store in La Grange but it since closed. There’s one in orland park that is like this one.

Super cool store!!!!

Great video and place. You got a thumbs up. Lots of cool stuff in that store.
A great hobby shop for sure.

You can still make models as an adult as long as your eye site and dexterity are still good.

Ber-wyn... I wonder if Svengoolie has ever been there.
I saw the name and thought of Svengoolie as well and that crazy talking chicken of his! 😄
He better have.
Nice old time hobby store! Sadly, they are getting to be fewer and fewer of them still in business.
All the Hobby Shops that I used to shop at are out of business now. Hobby Shops are getting to be like dinosaurs......extinct. 😢
That is sad, the people that go to hobby stores are grown men reliving their childhood. Hobby stores like this are rare nowadays,

Hello from Kansas 🇺🇸
Kinda crazy with their prices, wont go there much.Go to Lombard Hobbies,St Charles rd.Best prices around by far ,awesome selection too.
Does it have a cool storefront like this one? I'll have to check it out.
@@ericlikestowander7510 No, but if you're into trains, they would be a great place to go!
For people into balsa and model aircraft building, there's pretty much no place to go anymore.
Noticed LEGO on the building. They're more difficult to assemble than the RTFs "hobbyists" fly these days.
Wow!
I wonder how much they wanted for the American Flyer Girder car?
