      @@Argosh controllability was an issue. The jet pack looked wildly more dangerous. One false move and you'd slam sideways or downwards into the ground. I could be way off, but this looks like it has a more forgiving nature. Again, I don't know anything, just judging from what I can see in the short videos that exist here on youtube.

    • @Argosh
      @Argosh 3 роки тому +16

      @@jusztinnemeti6380 this is pretty simple to control because the Software from drones has gotten so good. You get yaw control through the motor acceleration and the reaction of the motors is much faster than from jetpacks.

    • @jusztinnemeti6380
      @jusztinnemeti6380 3 роки тому +1

      @@Argosh that's what I was wondering. I'm assuming with both units there must be some sort of fail safe device. Something that prevents the user from moving the controls in such a way that would cause loss of control.

    • @Argosh
      @Argosh 3 роки тому +6

      @@jusztinnemeti6380 that's what drone software does. There's three general modes for flight control in most systems: Basic, Advanced and Acrobatic. Basic does not allow any user induced banking but simply balances the vehicle automatically depending on the user requested speed and direction. Advanced allows some control over bank angle and acceleration but limits either to within safe operating parameters. Acro mode gives the user full bank, yaw and pitch control. Naturally all vendors have different interpretations of either mode but all are more or less in those general categories. Flying a drone like a mavic air is something you can safely let a child do.

      If your goal is to go a few thousand feet. Beyond that, the battery packs are going to start getting too heavy for it to pick up. I have an electric lawn mower. It takes a pretty substantial battery just to mow my rather modest lawn, unless the grass is kinda wet, in which case, it's not quite enough and I have to recharge to finish.

      There is no pendulum stability on a helicopter like that. It only works through a flight controller.

    • @paulhope3401
      @paulhope3401 3 роки тому

      With a fixed wing aircraft that would be true but this design choice is probably more packaging driven.
      With the high resolution and high frequency of modern gyro tech, bottom heavy 'pendulum' stability actually reduces stability, agility, performance and efficiency. Other than ergonomics and packaging it offers no advantages that I can think of.
      You are actually far better with as neutral as possible thrust/centre of mass setup.
      This is just my own experience from building and flying quadcopters with all positive, negative and neutral stability setups. The neutral setup was easiest to tune and fly as the motors didn't have to work anywhere near as hard having to fight against a long oscillating lever arm of mass to maintain the required angle.

    • @TobiasLeininger
      @TobiasLeininger 3 роки тому +2

      @@paulhope3401 that's also wrong. The COG can't be in the center for a device that's controlled by tilting the motors. It needs to be below (or above) the rotors.
      A quadcopter can work with the COG centered, but not the shown device.

    • @paulhope3401
      @paulhope3401 3 роки тому

      @@TobiasLeininger Yes, after some thought I think I see your point, it is not an equal comparison. The geared tilting mechanism simply cannot have the same resolution and reaction speed of a motor.

    • @TobiasLeininger
      @TobiasLeininger 3 роки тому +1

      @@paulhope3401 that's also not the point. If the COG is right on prop height, tilting the motors would not rotate the vehicle, it would be impossible to stabilize it. You need some leverage between motor force and COG inertial force. The reaction speed is not the problem, servos are more than fast enough nowadays.

    Very strange: the "company" behind does not even provide a website with more than a few photos.
    No explanation, no investment ads, no career opportunities, just nothing.
    So there is a high probability that the whole thing is just a fake (or "art project").

      Could be a brand new small company that is just trying to get off the ground.

      I noticed no dust was kicked up when he was landing on a dirt road.

      Probably there is no company, just some guy that built this in his basement.

      @@IliaBroudno Yes, that's absolutely right. If you compare that with the Jetpack, you should expect a huge cloud of dust.
      To lift a man, you need to accelerate at least 30 cubic meters of air per second to 35 m/s (= 126 km/h) This derives from F = m * a with F > 1000 N.
      This should produce a massive downwash.
      Also, at a coastal cliff the wind is extremely random and unpredictable - no one would choose such a place for a maiden flight.
      However, the size of that thing seems to be realistic, and a accumulator capacity for a 5 minutes flight seems also to be something to handle.
      The necessary power is around 20 kW, which requires a accumulator capacity of some more than 2,5 kWh which equals some less than 20 kg.
      However, the motors in the middle of the propellers are far to small to deliver 10 kW of mechanical power.
