And also national anthem ranked 8 by billboard’s ranking for the best music videos of the last decade and 11 by the rolling stones. It’s really incredible.
yay thank you for reacting to this!! lana has a ton of unreleased music and soundtrack songs if you want to continue reacting! e.g big eyes, i can fly, young and beautiful (a must!), serial killer
The "Tire-Swing" in the Mojave-Desert was actually her idea. "But how can we fix the Rope?" "Call a Crane!" And the Crew called for a 25-t-Crane. Thats Lana.
Towards the end in the monologue she says "I believe in the kindness of strangers" which is a quote from the character Blanche from 'A Streetcar Named Desire." In the play Blanche is a beautiful, middle-aged woman who is afraid of aging, and was known for being with different men. Once exposed, everyone turns on her and she has a breakdown. That line, she says in the arms of a doctor who is taking her away (infront of her own sister who does not try to stop it) to a psychiatric ward. Blanche looks at the doctor, who is actually nice to her unlike everyone else and says "Whoever you are, I have always depended on the kindness of Strangers."
I've always thought that Music to Watch Boys to was also a subtle reference to A Streetcar Named Desire. It's not only a song that directly follows the theme of the play, feeling like men come and go despite deep desire and want for them to stay, it also mentions flamingos (like the flamingo hotel where Blanche stays for a while). It's enlightening to realize other references, maybe I'm not crazy after all!
You hit the nail on the head. You got emotional because, sure, it isn't necessarily her actions that we relate to, but rather the reasons behind them that we so can. It is about that desperate need to figure out who you are, feeling like a chameleon because there are so many possibilities. This often leads to decisions that many would deem as crazy, but you knew you needed to experience it to discover something about yourself that was hiding in the dark, just waiting to be shown. You getting emotional made me emotional and brought me back to when I saw Ride for the very first time. I thought the same thing as you, that it is absolutely one of the best music videos of ALL time, and I still think it to this day. Simply beautiful reaction.
This! When I watched the video for the first time it was also the first time I heard the song. I can't relate with the exact actions itself, nor is English my first language, but the feelings emoted in the monologue, in the song and in conjunction with the video made me cry a lot. I felt so much and connected to it on a deep level. I still get very emotional when I listen to the song or watch the video and the monologue always hits me as hard as the first time.
I remember when I used to be so obsessed with this monologue that as an English major in university I would casually throw in bits of her phrasing, “dashed and divided”; “chameleon soul”; “inner indecisiveness that was as wide and as wavering as the ocean” into essays. I just loved her so much-this video inspired my whole life aesthetic despite not being an American 😂 desire for freedom is universal ❤️
I’m reliving those moments of discovery and belongingness through your reactions. What a blessing it is to be able to experience her universe for the very first time in the biased and overcrowded internet era.. Don’t take her for granted, she’s one of a kind. ❤️
P.S. I hope that one day I’ll be “big” enough to see you react to my music on your channel. You’re one of the few reaction youtubers that I truly respect and follow religiously.
Most of her videos take the songs to a different level and the imagery plays a huge role on how the music impacts you. It's crazy. You should react to West Coast, Shades of Cool, Music to Watch Boys To and The Greatest music videos. Tropico is a must for Jon since he loved Gods and Monsters. :)
I just feel she’s really misinterpreted, the media pushes the storyline of her trying to glamorise what they call the anti feminist women (self destructive) like ‘Marilyn Monroe’ etc but I think she was trying to giving a voice to those women and to humanise the women tend to be demonised by society when they are people in pain and are just trying to live ... and that’s why you got emotional, you have empathy Jon!
Lana has the power to make a straight men to feel like wanting to run away and be some old random man's mistress doing drugs and travelling, i feel you
You should definitely watch all her videos, but I do think that Shades of Cool has an amazing music video. Especially because it just fits so so soooo well with the song. If you're done with the music videos, I'll be waiting for you to react to her live performances 🤓💛
i love the fact that your whole reaction to this video is UNCUT. this is how all reaction videos must be like, but i know thats not possible cause of the copyrights :S
Visually “Born to die” is amazing.. but honestly “Ride” is such a piece of art in between the monologue and the video. You really can’t go wrong with Lana🤷🏻♀️
seeing you respond so emotionally is so raw, thank you for sharing such intimate moments with us. "Ride" is hauntingly beautiful. Keep up the Lana content!! :) Please check out Tropico as well!
It will be great, but not the same ending, Lana isn't looking her "prince charming", she won't let someone else save her, she won't falling in love with the guy. She will rather find her way by herself.
I use to hear this song in my darkest days back in my teen days and I also got emotional because this song helped escape and keep going. I love this song even if it brings back my worst days. it's a bitter sweet feeling
This music video inspired me to leave Australia and go to America, road tripping through the canyons all alone whilst blaring the monologue to the video in a loop under the starry night. I’ll never forget that
Reacting to this after trollz by 6ix9ine and Nicki 🤦♂️ Better music video Better production Waaayyy better lyrics Better in everything basically THAT is art !!! OK I get it I shouldn't compare but I'm just tired that this non sense gets more recognition than beautiful artists like lana
I have borderline personality disorder and this song and the poetry sums up my life as a teen / young woman. I cried the first time I watched it too. It's so nice watching people listen to lana for the first time and recognise how utterly brilliant she is. Brilliant.
You have to do national anthem with asap rocky!! It’s so important especially in these times we are living in right now it’ll give it so much depth and make way more sense than ever.
Random fun fact- I believe a lot of the symbols used in the MV were nods to her past. For example, she spent a lot of time working on outreach programs for homeless individuals and helping addicts. She also spent a lot of time when she was younger volunteering on Native American reservations to help rebuild homes ruined by natural disasters and paint homes that were in construction. Just thought it was an interesting thing to mention!
It seems even weirder and more disrespectful then that she’d don a cultural item of attire that doesn’t belong to her. It sounds like she should know better. Honestly, everyone should know better.
@@pnwz That's true, in reference to the outfit she wore in the end certainly. I did read however that it was a gift (or been modelled after the gift) from a family she had worked with but that very well could have been incorrect info. I'm not sure which site I read it on, I don't think it was an interview. it was a few years ago. my apologies, I wasn't necessarily speaking about that though, I just was referring to the environment from some parts such as the desert (in Nevada I believe..?).
This song saved me more than anyone ever could have. I still listen to it daily. It's not just a song to me it's medicine. . It's like someone reached in to my head heart and soul and word by word started me again. This was my favourite reaction to it ever as you seemed to get it. I have the words "I'm tired of feeling like I'm fucking crazy" on me now on my body. And the words of the whole thing imprinted in my DNA Thank you xx
Watching straight men tear up to Lana Del Rey is such an attractive quality...
This is the exact comment I had last week when he was reviewing NFR and he teared up 😍
stop relating sexuality to music! not only gay guys appreciate Lana Del Rey.
It's definitly sexy. 🤭
what a kink
And with a brit accent, perfect!
Every fucking time I see this masterpiece of a music video I cry, everytime

Things like this video show how she is the kind of artist that is rare af and belongs amongst the greatest artists in the history of civilization.
i always thought of carmen as her best song but i think this is, it’s just too good
I love you Jon Denton

Omgggg yessss
it's an experience
When does her book come outtttt
TROPICO is a must. Just saying
!!!!!!
Was just about to write that we need a reaction to Tropico!
Definitely
You took the words out of my mouth!!! 💕💕
I second this
Towards the end in the monologue she says "I believe in the kindness of strangers" which is a quote from the character Blanche from 'A Streetcar Named Desire." In the play Blanche is a beautiful, middle-aged woman who is afraid of aging, and was known for being with different men. Once exposed, everyone turns on her and she has a breakdown. Blanche looks at the doctor, who is actually nice to her unlike everyone else and says "Whoever you are, I have always depended on the kindness of Strangers."
I always wondered if she was referencing A Streetcar named Desire
she also refers to it in Carmen, right? "relying on the kindness of strangers"
Sound's like Blanche from The Golden Girls. Such a legend.
Great catch!
The short film Tropico does have music- it has three songs. That would be an amazing one to do.

Yesssss!!!!!! National anthem makes me cry everytime 😔but i love it!!!!

Well, that's not actually true. Lady Gaga is also famous for her amazing music videos.
@@erikperhs_ the bridge of this song are better than her whole career sorry

Wow I couldn’t of said it better 🙌🏼 especially the Chamaeleon part about so many possibilities to be... who you are and who you could be
