  • Over the past couple years much work has been ongoing at Melville, RI including the restoration of two sections of sidings. One portion of track was rebuilt for as a station track as the other is the extension of the passing siding. Historically the passing siding was shortened but the extension restored it close to it's original length. This video shows some switching operations on both of those tracks with various equipment. Cosmetically restored 44 Ton switcher Grafton & Upton 10 is also seen being put into position for display. Both Old Colony & Newport as well as Newport & Narragansett Bay crews worked together to make these moves possible.

    Those absolutely look like Delaware and Hudson railroad cars from the 70s when they still ran passenger service

    Hi, I liked seeing JPEX 7349s outside Frames and Cranks. Also BC30, it would be great to see her running under her own power. The Budd coaches (I presume) with their horizontal ribbing are my favourites. I hope all goes well for the Preservation groups. I'm involved in a UK one myself and I always note the age of volunteers like myself.

    The car at 11:39 reminds me of the Long Island Rail Road Ping Pong car, 1923 to 1974.

      It might be! It's certainly ex-LIRR, in any case. Pretty cool to see!

      It is a LIRR P72 coach that was converted into a breakfast and lunch diner. I visited there about 4 years ago. Chef Dan Murphy (no relation to me) was getting it started as “Dashing Dan’s”. The other coaches seen in the video are part of the Dinner Train excursion train that runs around Narragansett.

    Here's a silly question...are the center cabs diesel electric or just diesel?

    • @jessicaburdell7779
      @jessicaburdell7779 Рік тому

      Diesel electric. I believe Plymouth was one of the few companies that produced diesel hydraulic locos on top of the gasoline switchers.

    Is the RDC operational, or just used as a non-powered passenger car?

      @@SouthCoastRailVideos When I was a kid, in coastal Maine I worked on GM Diesels in marine applications. They were simple and reliable. What does this car have in it for diesels, 6-110"s? I worked on some 71 series GM's in boats that were built on a slant to use with little headroom. I wondered if any of them ever got used in the RDCs. What do the Center cabs have in them for engines, Cummins?

    The constant ticking is so annoying!💯 Would rather empty the tank at end of day like everyone else does with their home air compressor. Guess somebody refuses to do that, therefore we have to listen to annoying ticking all day?🤔

    • @SouthCoastRailVideos
      @SouthCoastRailVideos  Рік тому

      Maybe it’s because it’s a locomotive and not your “home air compressor”?

      @@SouthCoastRailVideos These are small locomotives though. Small ones don't usually have that do they?
