- Hi, I'm David from Germany and I present my second LEGO Great Ball Contraction project called "Pneumatic Ball Factory" in version 2.0 (2018).

Anyway, nice job! I like the tidiness of the MOC, especially how the pneumatic tubes are arranged (better than how LEGO does it).

Well and truly the best GBC I have ever seen I love the industrial setting as and the professional colour scheme and construction of the whole and the individual modules. I really love seeing your industrial looking Lego robot machinery as I'm an engineer and enjoy seeing such things. Good job pal

I love these kind of creations full of pneumatics I would love to get into it a bit more myself but I don't have a lot of pneumatics and the sets they come in are usualy pretty pricey. anyway I love this build and I'm looking forward to a V.3 ;)

Yes, it's just a new PBF, but it's all new and more complex than the first. ;-)

Hi Quanix. It is nice to watch your new version. Last year I spend quite a lot of time by studying your videos (of V1) and trying to build replicas of your manipulators. They worked well. And the new ones look even better. I like particularly the pair of the rotating ones as they are really miniaturized yet fully functional.

Maybe yes. But I do not build only replicas, I try also my own design. Last year, your videos inspired me to experiment with different designs of pneumatic control units. I show one of the prototypes (made in February 2017) in this video - ua-cam.com/video/nPvTB9f45Wo/v-deo.html. Maybe somebody will get inspired.
Yes, I have already experimented with this type of pneumatic control unit. For my PBF machines I decided to use the third crank arm control.
No question, it is very potential in your control unit.
Maybe I will take your idea as inspiration.

This is a very well made contraption! I am impressed. One remark, however: One of the official requirements of a GBC is that it should accept balls at a rate of at least 1 ball per second. This one is way slower than that …
This is a great creation. Very well-made, and it looks very reliable. Love the clean look of it.
However, I hope you won't mind me asking; what camera did you film this with? I'm looking for a 4K capable camera that can handle slowmotion.

That is really easy. You need the chain link with the article number:6047885 and put it in the tech holes.

Those loaders are a sight! This is a truly epic creation! How modular is the loading area? How hard would it be to have a row of 4 or 6 loaders all slammin' away? The visual would be nuts!

Amazing build! The timing of the features is perfect, I really like what you did with the servos. The overall refined look gives it the factory presentation
I do have some questions:
Why are you using 2 power rails (9v & 7.5v), is the 7.5 for the servo motors or to run the m-motors at a slower speed? (i could be wrong on both the points :-) )
What is the part number of the out feed conveyor?
Where do you get the long pneumatic hose from (is it standard Lego or after market)?

Thank you for your message. I am happy to answer your questions:
1. I use the 9V power line for the powerfunction motors (ball feeder, control unit and conveyor belt).
The 7.5V power line is exclusive to the servomotors.
Due to the split lines, no load peaks occur due to the power of the motors. If
I were to use a power line for the motors and the servos, the servos
get erroneous currents and twitching or do not drive into the correct
end positions.
The servos get only 7.5V because they move so they are gentler.
2.I think you mean the conveyor belt of the ball feeder ?! The part number is 92712
3. I buy the tubes on the Internet as meter goods. They are not original LEGO parts.

I am looking forward to PBF 3! I'm starting to build my own, thanks for posting some of the instructions it has given me many ideas. If you need a hand making instructions let me know, I use LLD and Blueprint for instructions and made quite a few, including a 12500 piece navel ship! Technic instructions are a little more time consuming because of all of the pins, axles etc.

Sorry if someone else asked this before, but why is there a metal cylinder at the top of the long distance Pick-and-place module (at the end of the holder of the pneumatic tubes)? Anyway the build is awesome, I was just curious if it has a function or just decoration.

This cylinder is a counterweight to the gripper on the other side of the slider.
This is needed so that the carriage is running straight on the guide axes.
The counterweight is self-made of stainless steel and no LEGO part.

Very Nice! I've had something like this in the back of my head for some time now. Questions: What is sourcing the compressed air? Would you consider making this conform to the GBC standard and displaying it along with others at a convention?

The compressed air comes from an external compressor with 6L air tank. I will eventually attend a convention, but only in Germany.

Die transparenten Klammern dienen nur zur Beschriftung bzw. Nummerierung der einzelnen Schlauchleitungen. Diese sind nicht allzu stramm, weshalb Sie die Festigkeit der Schläuche kaum erhöht. Die Beschriftungshülsen sind von der Marke Weidmüller.
Das Gewicht an der linear Achse dient dazu, das Gewicht des Greifers auf den Führungsachsen waagerecht zuhalten. Somit fährt der Schieber leichter und ohne sich zu verwinden. Es besteht aus Edelstahl und ist eigenbau.

Ich benutze einen 8 Bar Kompressor mit 6L Lufttank zum betreiben meiner PBF.
Bei vollem Tank reicht die Luft für ca. 20min Betrieb.

After my pick&place module is dropped the balls to the empty buckets, as soon as the pusher is pusshed the fully bucket to the other belt, the bucket is getting stucked to the other belt :S Is the closer belt to pick&place module little higher than the other belt? Or something else?
By the way, i almost duplicated whole modules combined with ball sorter module and created other features and modules etc. Will share it soon. After solving this stucking issue:)

No, the conveyor belts are at the same height.
You have to use under the carrier two tiles with the part number: 6132886. (Https://www.lego.com/service/bricks/5/2/6132886)
These tiles have rounded edges and better sliding over heels.

I order the silicone tubes where else. They are not from LEGO.

I buy the hose in a hardware store near me. But there are many dealers on the internet selling silicone tubing for LEGO.
great built, but I was thinking, maybe you could add a ball cleaning unit somewhere along the conveyorr? something similar to what akiyuky has made, but perhaps a bit simpler, just spinning some cloth on top of the balls or something. I think that would really add to the machine, then it has a real purpose. Anyway it is a great contraption none the less!

For reference 4 blue pneumatic pumps will just run the long linear return machine. You need 6 to run robotic arms. You would need 20 plus to run the whole machine.
