We're at the part where DBZA goes from just fun to brilliant. I CANNOT overstate how much Frieza elevated this show.
Frieza is just so amazing. I always liked him as a villain, but when he’s played by LittleKuriboh in Abridged, he’s just SO good. Every scene he’s in he’s the perfect balance of arrogant, terrifying, petty, and hilarious.
He's simply cadaverific
@@JesusOfPaign I really hope that one day they do an abridged of DBS and the DBS broly movie because of how much gold can come from frieza's changed demeanor. Frieza during the ToP and beyond is an absolute delight to see in action and even in just the normal DBS he really managed to steal the show, I can't wait to see how much TFS could elevate that if they one day decide to do DBS
What is wrong with that: Goku is correct that Dr. Briefs can make him a ship. However, he’s wrong because he’s assuming that ANY scientist can make him a ship.
That's not really what he said.
He specifically said Bulmas dad, the guy who taught Bulma and helped her woth the ship she used.
@@catsabotage3362 Listen to his exact words. He doesn’t say “Bulma’s dad knows how to make spaceships”, he says “Bulma’s dad is a scientist”.
@@hillhouseproductions yeah BULMA's dad.
Just cause Goku doesn't break it down doesn't mean he isn't making sense.
@@catsabotage3362 This isn’t just Goku we’re talking about, this is Abridged Goku, the poster child for the Idiot Hero trope. I’m 95% sure TFS has confirmed that he just assumed scientist = makes spaceships.
Confirmed by the creators that is the meaning of the joke
Want to know what's even funnier about the little pose Vegeta makes when he kills Cui? That attack is called "Dirty Fireworks"
What Krillin was “doing” in the cave was what he was internally complaining about not being able to do on the ship because the toilet kept screaming at him:
Himself
In case you’re still interested, most of the characters you’ll see in this arc will continue to have names according to a goofy theme, similar to how Saiyans are named after vegetables. Sadly a lot of the puns are Japanese-based so they’re not easy to catch, but I’ll mention them here for funsies. Freeza’s species is, of course, has a cold theme. All of his henchmen (Dedoria, Zarbon, Cui, etc.) are named after fruits. The Namekians have names based around snails. Bulma and her family (Dr. Brief and his wife Bikini) are named after underwear (Bulma is a Japanese modification of “bloomers”). There’s also another group coming soon (I won’t spoil) whose names are themes after dairy products.
I thought Bulma's mom's name was Panty. At least that's what Scott and Nick always call her when she's on screen
@@silentassasonI think Bikini might be her Japanese name while Panty/Panchy is probably her English dub name
Not just snails, it’s anyone Piccolo related seem to be based around musical instruments, with King Piccolo’s other children being Tambourine, Ukulele, Drum etc. Whether that’s exclusive to Piccolo’s fam or it may expand to other Namekians is unclear.
I love it. And I never would have known about Bulma, I just wouldn't have put it together. Looking forward to the Dairy folks!
OMG IT LIVES!! Welcome back Lauren. Now is when the fun begins.
I'm very excited
“Is there a word for an evil himbo?”
Well I just call him Tom Cruise.
He can't be a himbo, he doesn't drink his Respect Women juice, and that is crucial.
@@ChicagoReacts of course. If I’d known “himbo” could be remotely complimentary, I wouldn’t have applied it to Tom.
@@MarisuSedai Ah yes. Usually 'Himbo' refers to a beefy, dumb guy who respects women. The latter two are the most important. I've basically never heard it used to be a *bad* thing. Or at the least, not derogatory. I usually hear it used with a sort of fondness.
@@ChicagoReacts Gotcha. I thought it just meant male, hot, and dumb. Oh gosh, I’m becoming my parents, incorrectly using new slang to sound hip and cool. 😆
Pause the frames when they do a solar flare there are hidden images 😂
Oh, cool! Thanks for the tip!
So...what "should've happened a month ago" that Krillin did in the cave... just think about what happens when, as Krillin mentioned during their travel, a man has to watch an attractive woman walk around solely in their undergarments and gets no privacy. That's why it was "everywhere!"
oh. ew. Gotcha, lol. I definitely thought he'd just had like...explosive diaherrea. 😑
@@ChicagoReacts yeah, neither option is particularly pleasing lol
@@ChicagoReacts This is why, if you're ever living with a man you're not romantically involved with or attracted to, you really shouldn't walk around him wearing nothing or almost nothing. Unless he's gay, you're going to basically tease him to no end. That cannot end well, for either of you. Us men are primitive creatures. We see pretty female, we want bone pretty female. If pretty female walk around naked in our home, or nearly naked, only makes primitive instincts go into overdrive.
7:26 A scientist may science but you need engineer to build what scientists scienced. But some scientists are also good engineers like Bulma's dad.
Even TFS themselves pretty much acknowledge that Episode 14 is where DBZA really found its footing and stepped pointedly away from its more awkward beginnings. It's clear that Frieza is such a marvelous villain that they felt intensely compelled to do him justice. Combine that with LittleKuriboh's marvelous performance imitating the cadence of Chris Ayres' English dub take on the character, and you get something truly special. Funny, while retaining the character's trademark cool intimidation.
She was clearly humoring us for a while with these, but this episode it seems like she finally broke through the wall and found herself having a really good time. This is where TFS becomes legitimately impressive.
Btw, for those who don't know LK was originally going to play a Ginyu, but in his audition he did a scene with Freeza and voiced both characters. They ended up liking the Freeza voice so much that they asked him to play Freeza...so if that hadn't happened, we would have had a VERY different Freeza performance!
They gave Freeza some of the most chilling lines I've ever heard. He gets SO much more Code Brown inducing.
So only sayins can become stronger after they recover from heavy battle. This is called a zenkai boost. Also freezers accounts and documentations of heroic clichés he has heard will come back when he meets Goku so watch out for that it's actually quite fun
I can't wait!
That's Pu'ar (the floating cat) and Oolong (the pig). They had much, much bigger rolls in the original Dragonball series, but in DBZ they were more or less relegated to being occasional side characters.
Anytime a character dies them the Dragon Balls need to be used to wish them back. When they die if they're a good/selfless person they can keep their body and "live" in the afterlife. King Kai's little planet is simply his home in the afterlife, he is a minor deity.
Watching two at a time when the episodes are on the shorter side is a good call.
yep, this is where it starts improving very dramatically, and it's gonna keep improving pretty consistently for the rest of the series
9:27 “He looks like a Super Friend.”
Omg, you have no idea how tickled I am to come across someone else who remembers the Hannah Barbara era.
This is where they stop relying so much on memes and references for their jokes and start just having fun writing the direction they want to take these characters. This leads to the voice actors also settling into their characters. Freeza's voice actor jist knocks it out of the park!
For context of Dr. Briefs, the idea is that they went with the joke of early day's Reed Richards in the early early days of Marvel, which was more or less based on the idea of how marriages and couples were thought of, then they just kind of went ham on the mad scientist angle.
And for the explanation of the ship Goku uses, it's basically their attempt at copying the tech used for and uses the scraps of Goku's pod that he was brought to Earth by when he was a baby, but more retrofitted to act more like a Capsule House (basically a portable house, sort of like the freezer Future Trunks pulls out of when he first meets the gang, knowing you've gotten that far into the show now). Aka "Goku's Saiyan Pod 2.0-ish."
So to explain death.
The earth dragon balls can be used to wish someone back from the dead only once per person.
But it only works if they got killed.
So if it's from disease or old age it won't work.
Now krillen and chaitsu. (The little mime kid)
They already died and got reserected in the OG dragon ball before it had the Z.
So they can't come back.
Now, the dragon balls were made by Kami on earth, but since kami split his good and evil sides, if one dies, the other dies.
And the evil part is piccolos' dad. But piccolo still counts for the evil side dying.
So when he died, kami died, and the dragon balls on earth can't be used.
Now, there Namekian dragon balls work similar but are slightly different.
So they were made, and if the maker dies, they don't work.
The Namekian balls also grant 3 wishes and can let people come back more than once.
Awesome, got it. Thanks!
“We’re the one's who will stop you”
_Ooh, wow, _*_4 1 9_*
Whoever didn't get that reference hasn't seen TFS’ version of Bardock: Father of Goku
"Somebody explain what is wrong with that" just because somebody is a scientist doesnt mean they can make a space ship.
Yay! I was so afraid we did not get new videos to this, btw. there is also Final Fantasy 7 Abridged by the same people and its amazing too!
Pay attention to Dr. Briefs (Bulma’s dad), he’s way more evil than you think.
Don't try to keep track of the lore in DBZ. Even Akira Toriyama himself admits that he loses track of the lore in DBZ.
In the original series there were many more Manimals and had Assorted Creatures In fact the President of the planet is Blue Terrier
The issue was that scientist does not automatically = can make a spaceship.
Ha! Oh no. I should have taken a drink for Goku being an idiot
Oh btw the pig guy, is "Oolong". He isn't really relevant to Dragon Ball Z / DBZ Abridged. He was a fairly important character from original Dragon Ball.
So, short version of this show: Death matters, but only to an extent. Almost EVERY main character is killed, and wished back to life again. But, it also has limitations, such as the Earth Dragon balls essentially functioned as: "Yo, you died before? Sorry fam, can't help ya!"
There's also other minute rules with the Balls, but it's usually not *that big of a deal* in most cases. The one, that sometimes comes up, is if someone is wished to life, the person being wished back, can actually have the wish denied; and basically say, 'Nah, no thanks, fam.'
And, more or less what happens when they die in this series [in most cases] their soul is sent to a different part of the Galaxy. Whether it be the rest of eternity, or just there temporarily.
Yooo! We back baby! Little Kuriboh kills it as Frieza.
Absolutely! I love him and his crew!
you spelled it wrong. Its Freeza
@@Revkor Really? Why is there is there an "I" in it.
@@DarkestAndBlackest mistranslations
@@Revkor I'm aware, buddy. I thought you would finish the TFS joke.
Yaaaasss! It only gets better from here Lauren. I hope you keep watching because I'm here for the ride. Much love ❤️
Man, the freaky alien genotype joke reminds me how long ago this series started.
Every home should have a muffin button
Death is somewhat complicated here, kind of. Death is death, and the vast majority of people are still subject to it. The premise of the Dragon Balls is the main thing that allows the main cast to skirt around it to the point that the threat of death loses its impact for the main cast, unless Piccolo himself dies, because his origins are tied to the Dragon Balls of earth. Because Piccolo and Kami are, in effect, the ones who created the Dragon Balls, when they die, the balls go inert. Moreover, the earth's Dragon Balls were limited to one instance of any particular wish. Only one wish would be granted for immortality, only one wish for eternal youth, and so on. The way this was applied with death was that each individual could only be revived once. This was why Chiaotzu was called out on sacrificing himself to try to kill Nappa; he had died and had been revived once already, so he couldn't be revived again.
Anyway, to get back to the point, the "after life" has been depicted as a physical place within the universe at large, rather than following the typical idea of being separate plane of existence. It is a place that the mortals can come to, and that souls can leave, however that transference is typically heavily regulated by the "gods" of the after life. It takes either an immense amount of power, the proper permissions, or specialized transportation techniques to come or go, except in the moment of death, where the soul of the departed ends up at the gate automatically. Master Roshi's sister, Baba, has limited permissions to grant souls a limited stay back on earth, seemingly limited to one full day, while Majin Buu, the final major antagonist of the original series (not of the Abridged series), is one of the very few who has the power to go to the realm of the dead on his own.
If I'm remembering correctly, Kami, acting as the Guardian of Earth, used his connections to ensure that when Goku died, his body was healed and transported to the afterlife along with his soul, so that it could benefit from his training. When he was revived, because he was still in his body on King Kai's planet, he had to physically return to the gate to be sent back to earth. Earlier depictions of death and revival seemed to imply that the state of the body needed to be kept relatively healthy until the wish could be made, whereupon the soul would immediately return to it, and any mortal wounds would be healed in the process. I'm not sure how consistent this act stayed as the story progressed, however, because it started to seem as though a new body was created for the returning soul, such as in the eventual case of Chiaotzu, who had no body to return back to.
I feel like there are a few major points in DBZA where the quality (writing, acting, editing, production value) jumps noticeably.
It legitimately gets better with every episode, but the first jump was when the Saiyans show up, and then again here when they land on Namek (imo they have equally significant jumps in quality around episodes 24, 32, and i think 45-ish? I think those are when major plot points sort of demand that they step it up a notch).
A couple things you asked to be explained/I feel like might need to be explained:
You can be wished back to life with the Dragon Balls, but only once. They can be created by powerful Namekians (The Green Slug people) and their power is tied to the life force of the one who created them, so if their creator dies, then the Balls lose their power.
In the past, an Unnamed Namekian landed on earth and split himself into two halves: good and evil. The good half was Kami, who became the wrinkly old raisin man watching over Earth, and he created the Dragon Balls. The evil half was Demon King Piccolo. As halves of the same being, when one of them dies, so does the other. In the original Dragon Ball (before Dragon Ball Z), Goku killed Demon King Piccolo, but before he died he spit out an egg that hatched into *our* Piccolo (technically named Piccolo Jr, but no one calls him that). Since King Piccolo’s life continued through Piccolo Jr, Kami survived too. But then when Nappa killed Piccolo, Kami was killed too, meaning the Dragon Balls were gone.
So the Z fighters killed in the Saiyan attack are dead, and I guess they just decided to train in hopes that the still living Z Fighters can get all the Namekian Dragon Balls to wish them back to life.
Oh, and the pig guy is Oolong: he’s a shapeshifter, was a pretty main character in Dragon Ball, and one time he saved the world-Emperor Pilaf had all the Dragon Balls and was gonna wish to rule the world, but Oolong swooped in and stole the wish, wishing for a pair of panties.
The floating cat thing you called a sugar glider is Puar; he(?)’s also from Dragon Ball, and is Yamcha’s best friend. He’s a shapeshifter too, and went to the same shape shifting school as Oolong (apparently there’s a school for it).
Both of them were significant in Dragon Ball, but in DBZ they’re basically just background characters who live at Master Roshi’s. I don’t even think their shape shifting abilities are shown or mentioned at all 😂
(Some of this may have been explained in comments of previous reactions, but I can’t remember, so sorry if you already know this stuff)
Thank you! I think maybe someone mentioned the Piccolo/Kami thing before, but it's been a while, and you went into greater detail, so I appreciate it. I'm definitely gonna have to save this comment though, for future reference, lol. Very Helpful 10/10
The pig's name is Oolong. He was in a short cutaway gag at Roshi's house in an early episode. The "sugar-glider" is a flying cat-like creature named Pu'ar (Poo-ahr). What he is isn't really known, but Akira Toriyama said he drew him "a bit like a cat." He's Yamcha's friend and Oolong's rival in the original Dragon Ball. Both Oolong and Puar can shapeshift (one of many references to Journey to the West characters). They serve pretty much no purpose in DBZ except for comic relief, but they're still around.
Puar wasn't Oolong's rival. Just one of his victims since Oolong was a massive bully that got expelled for stealing the teacher's panties. He's not changed since then. XD
@@Aeronator2 I'm not talking about their history before DB, I'm talking about once they meet in the original series. They square off and use their abilities against each other. Puar even insults Oolong and berates him for his past behavior. They exhibit rivalry with each other and that's because of their past and their alliances at that time. I'm not suggesting that was always the case, just that it was at one time.
@@StCerberusEngel Fair point and I wasn't trying to say that it was always the case. But that instance you gave isn't of them being rivals but of her finally getting a chance to get even with Oolong. We're referring to the same thing.
@@Aeronator2 I think we just see it differently. Or maybe my word choice wouldn't be yours. But given the competitive nature of their back and forth, I consider that rivalrous. Mostly because they're not outright enemies. Puar had something to prove and the dynamic stemmed from that as opposed to pure malice or hate.
@@StCerberusEngel Touche. Honestly the more I think about it the more I think that you're right. Perhaps I initially misunderstood you but I get what you mean.
An evil himbo... A bad guy with himbo energy... soo... a himbad?
You’re right Goku saying he needs a scientist probably attentional intelligent thing has he ever said in entire series
Yes we are back, you’re gonna love Freiza, best villain and this version actually does him good
Also wanting to know what a evil himbo is called xD
now you will see the best version of Freeza
I'll begin to tell you what is wrong with that. Having the title "Scientist" doesn't necessarily mean you can build an interplanetary spaceship. Dr. Briefs however can.
I don't know. I've always thought (as have most reactors) that this is a pretty weak line. And it IS Goku, by far the dumbest of any of them, who thinks of a solution at all.
The thing about scientists. If they went to a university for years and are unable to make a ship on demand then they need to have their degree revoked.
HA! Yes. This, exactly 🤣
You have the prettiest smile. Just lights up your whole face.
What's wrong with that is there are many types of scientists. A chemist or biologist for example wouldn't know how to make a spaceship.
Goku inadvertently has point, but only because Dr. Briefs is a genius who invented the reality-bending technology responsible for the capsule storage containers and has probably the largest technological corporation in the world as well.
You wouldn't normally expect some random, nondescript scientist to be able to create a rocket ship, much less do so single-handedly. The term "scientist" encompasses many possible occupations all the way from geology to astronomy to molecular biology to entirely theoretical fields of mathematics. It would be absurd to assume that someone can do any kind of engineering just because they engage in research.
Oh these eps are the beginning of consistent epicness for sure
Quack
What a majestic creature.
If you like characters striking poses, boy-howdy, are you in for a treat... or nightmare fuel, I don't know.
And it's not yet their peak. It will be about eps 44.
when they wish them back, if their bodies are on earth, they just wake up. however, if they have a body in the afterlife, they willjust come to life there. It's not normal to have a body in death, it's just for master martial artists.
5:50 something he's not supposed to do 😂

5:40 "a month ago" hes reffering to his internal monologue last episode...

20:59 kronk a himbo and he was evil
He was not, he was a sweetie. He just got mixed up with the wrong people.
Maybe The Mighty Monarch, eventually during the run of The Venture Bros?
Kronk as Brock Sampson isn't really evil, not necessary a sweety, but still best dad.
see now we are picking up
When people die in DB they go to a different realm of the after life. Usually in spirit form but sense they all know the god of earth (kami in this case) there allowed to take there body's with them.
Also king yama can make similar exceptions at his leisure. Normally they can't go back too the living world from the after life unless there brought back to life. However Roshi's sister baba goes between the realms and can offer a 24 hour pass for a dead person to come to earth, only one time each per person though. Z warriors were given a body to after life pass to train, and they hope to be resurrected by the namek dragon balls.
Roshi's sister is named Baba. Babadi is the evil wizard that was trying to revive Majin Buu.
Scientist is a really broad term with many different fields and usually you chose one field and don't dip too much into another. Building a space ship in a world which pretty much still have rocket ships too at most travel too the moon is a big task. and this parody didn't even explain that they used goku's space pod from when he was a baby as a base for the ship.
Anyways, space ships usually take a long a$$ time to build and take many different scientists working together and it's alot too take in that dr.briefs knows all the necessary fields of science too build the ship.
I welcome you to dbza start for me 😂
