Rico’s negative behaviors were rocketed up to 100 when he started full time. That kind of thing happens to people pretty frequently in the professional world. People don’t always realize that lying, manipulating, bullying, and being generally low functioning aren’t really things you can get away with as an adult in most workplaces, especially ones like Barstool. Instead of firing him like a normal company would, Dave and BC turned him into their punching bag and there was absolutely nothing Rico could do at that point. His negative behaviors were perfectly hidden in a regular union job, but once the real him got put on display everything spiraled out of control. If Rico were willing to work on his psychological issues and shortcomings it probably would’ve turned out okay, but he’s too immature to do that.

If anyone is familiar with the Howard Stern universe this is EXACTLY like when Jackie Martling, Stuttering John, or any of the freaks that were in Howard's orbit left the company to work for competitors. It never, ever works. Rico is funny and entertaining THROUGH the prism of Dave, Big Cat, and the litany of other Barstool people. What Dave and Big Cat have created is an ecosystem of content creation whereby Barstool sustains a competitive advantage over rival firms by enabling some of the strangest and most grotesque people to entertain us. They are the puppet masters. Without them, Rico will have a very hard time being independently funny and rival companies cannot in any way, shape, or form replicate the Barstool universe. Hiring employees away who became famous through interactions with Dave or Big Cat is unlikely to have a good ROI.
Nah Dan knows him and Dave pushed Rico over the edge to many times. They also convinced him to leave a pension job and then refused to give him more than a 1 year deal. When he’s got a family to look out for

Rico was a fourth liner at best. Big Cat and Dave put him on the first line. When Rico wasn’t tossin up points, coach gave him a few options. He decided to be put on waivers. If he truly had a lifetime contract then they wouldn’t be keeping him on a 1 year deal because clearly that was an issue for him even last year he had an issue with it. The reality is they got huge numbers off the first contract negotiations on pick ‘em and then decided that would be their yearly content that carries show

I think at the end of the day rico is just so much better when he’s not trying to force stuff. That’s why he was the best caller the world had ever seen. Having to sit down for three hours and go through a list of topics would be hard for anyone to be interesting. I think he puts too much pressure on himself and every little thing is the end of the world. There is maybe three people on the planet that would have a seriously successful college basketball podcast, it’s nearly impossible. Pardon my take doesn’t even stick to sports as a whole all the time, and they have two of the funnier guys on the internet.
Whatever " star power " Rico thinks he had was directly related to the Dave and Dan dynamic. He is nothing without them as far as being a " star " . He is gonna get hit with a semi truck of reality soon as he enters this new work environment. The man had the biggest free pass of all time at barstool and could basically do whatever he wanted and still making a full salary like he was working 40+ hours a week while working less than 10 hr a week.

Rico is a funny, irreplaceable figure in the Barstool universe. There's a very long list of unsavory things he did, but not helping his cousin's bar during COVID to do 1 podcast is all you need to know about the guy. He'll be crawling back to Dave in a year tops.

27:40 amazing Rico impression from this year. I love Rico and have listened to this show for many years (3 presidencies.) and I have to admit, this season was terrible. Rico has been miserable to listen to week in and week out. He neutered himself to 4 picks a week. He barely spoke and when he would he was only defensive. I wish him the best and look forward to the next season of Pick Em'.

Rico was a fourth liner at best. Big Cat and Dave put him on the first line. When Rico wasn’t tossin up points, coach gave him a few options. He decided to be put on waivers. This is the year Barstool wins the cup, When Rico’s team is fighting for a first round pick. This won’t have a Ray Bourque type ending.
