I can't hold my tears! Afrika has good weather and big lands but we're still crying and dying from hunger when we have rivers, lakes to be able to grow many crops. We should learn from Israel a desert country that's doing well in his small land. What's wrong with Africa?
My brother, it is not enough just to tell us how well they are doing but also how it is done. What lessons have you learned. What are the techniques/ practices involved if we want to do the same thing?
Thanks for your concern sir. Thanks for watching our video. Some of the techniques employed are; 1.Good land preparation (done in the wet season prior to the beginning of the dry season for efficient control of weeds) 2. Good planting distance, high density and good corn variety. 3. Drip irrigation 4. Pests and diseases control 5. Fertilization 6. Timely harvest Two techniques were employed inmaking the farm so clean. 1. Spraying the field with pre-germination selective herbicides like Lagon. Lagon, when employed in corn production is effective in controlling weeds in corn. 2. The corn were planted in the summer where there's no way except via irrigation. However, since drip irrigation was employed, this denied the remaining wees seeds access to adequate moisture for them to function well. I hope these will help a little bit.
TX for the show and encouragement for us to engage in Agriculture. BUT you leave us alot of questions. Eg 1) how they use the drip method. ,,, what distance between each drip hole on a particular line 2) What is the garden line spacing between each plant hole on a line and then distance between line and line... 3) What do they use for soil enhancement 4) What variaty are they using & can we have it in Africa ?¿? 5) etc
Thanks for watching this video of ours. Indeed the distance were too close but those were within the rows. However, between the rows, there were 60 cm apart row spacing and over 100cm apart between drips. So each end of the corn row has enough space sunlight etc. Sowing the seeds one per hill minimizes competition where as irrigation and fertilizer application via the drip lines helped to achieve uniform growth and yield

Hello, thanks for watching our video. Fertilizer was applied to the corn. We used Fertilizers containing NPK as active and trace elements which are mostly found in Israel. Thanks
In Israel the irrigation fluid holds the fertilizer in solution. The type and concentration of fertilizer changes from week to week because the needs a re never the same. Fertigation is designed for each individual crop because each crop has unique timed needs. So the fertigation is very detailed and specific. Fertigation makes up for the shortage of organic matter in the soil that normally would provide nutrients and retain water.

Weed-free environment was achieved by the help of drip irrigation and use of herbicides. The land was prepared prior to the end of the raining season which allowed weed seeds to germinate and they were controlled using selective herbicides. Selective herbicides like Lagon from Bayer allows one time good weed management throughout the entire growing season of the maize, however, this type of herbicide should not be used in sandy-soils. Since the maize was planted in the dry season, the use of drip irrigation ensured that only selective portions or targeted crops, i.e , the maize receive the available water in the form of drips thereby denying the availability of moisture for other plants (weeds) to germinate or to survive.
Because they weeded and since there isn't enough rain falls, they hardly have weeds and you can control your weeds by putting plastic on the ground to cover the soil.

irrigation+rainfall = evaporation + transpiration + runoff + leaching Which one of these processes do Farmers really have control over during the growing season? If you have the ability to irrigate your sandy soils and water is cheap and plentiful, then you are fortunate and have some control on the left side of the equation. Runoff is or should be minimal in sandy textured soils with high percolation rates. This leaves the leaching of water out of the root zone as the #1 controllable loss of moisture to your crop. Every problem has a solution. In fact there are many solutions. There are also ideas imported from elsewhere which work there but not in most of Africa.
