Every one in the comments saying that theyre weak hits obviously doesn't realize there is a reason why he's doing it like that 1. To maintain control of the weight 2. To not damage anything else
The HOA built the dam. They don't want to pay for the dredging of the pond. It's a collection basin for rain runoff from the streets. They damned it, they should be responsible for the clean up of the toxic sludge.
What a sad bunch of experts commenting on how they would have done this. The reason he didn't hit it harder is because that sends shit flying everywhere, causing damage, and costing money! The reason he used what he did is because it is most likely what he already had. Why spend thousands on an attachment to do what was probably a one time job. They got it done, made a paycheck and moved on!
The problem is that a real estate put this in to increase property value by selling lake lots. The result was poor drainage in the surrounding area causing some flooding. Another problem was that the dam was high enough, that in a heavy rain, it caused water to top over the culvert. That caused traffic problems on a major highway. I am sure the HOA is not happy, property values just dropped. Another issue is mosquito control. This mess looks like a disaster of mosquito borne diseases to come. Dams and waterways are generally controlled at state level, even this far upstream. TVA and Colorado river are some larger examples.
All of you need to just stop commenting. The operator did a pretty fine, professional and clean job. To those complaining about no hard hats, a hard hat wont protect against a bump from that machine and concrete wasnt going high enough. Quit trying to look and act professional when we all know youre nothing more than the dude on the side of his bosses truck throwing everyone under the bus for a promotion youll never get.
I see a lot of folks here didn't read the dam video description. (see what I did there lol) It is an old, man made storm water retention pond that had filled with sediment. They removed the dam to allow the water to flow through without causing flood issues as more sediment comes in basically. This way, the water can just pass through.
Can't believe the stupid comments here. Keyboard construction experts. Excellent equip. operator. Used us little force as possible, caused zero damage to surrounding worksight, and was on ,gone ,and done in an hour.
I always marvel at how easy the operators of these machines make it look, when I know for a fact it is not easy! Used to watch the operators on our construction sites, before I retired. Well done!!!
It seems everyone here complaining about the operator is forgetting that the HOA had to pay for this themselves and used the lowest bidder. You get what you pay for! You want top shelf work, you pay top dollar.
I dont get why people are saying it could have been done better or faster. The entire project took 24 minutes.... lol Thats pretty quick if you actually think about it instead of just babbling.
I bet they started out with good intentions when they put in that dam. Then they realized it took on sediment so it spread out way past their original intention, became stagnant and increased the mosquito population 20 fold.
Branden Trowbridge After reading the description they didnt want to fund the dredge. This explains the lack of attachments. City didnt want to pay the extra cost of a breaker attachment.
if the contamination was too bad the city would not have ok'd the dams removal knowing the sediments would go downstream. that is monitored very closely by several agencies.
Excavators must be some of the most flexible working tools ever made. Those and forklifts. Both can change the working "attire" or whatever you call it. And they look big, rugged and hardy, but from experience (at least with forklifts), i know they can be precise to the millimeter. Simply marvelous. There must be so much hydraulics, electronics and stuff being worked into each of those machines.
The video description answers most of the questions asked in the comments section and is worth reading. There is also a link to a follow-up video posted a year later.
Operator was cheap and successful. No one was injured. No equipment was damaged. Everyone starts somewhere. So the critical comments seem petty and even possible examples of the dunning Krueger effect.
Cool video of the procedure. Thanks for posting. Interesting seeing the tiny wrecking ball :) Aside from that ... HOA's costed me nothing but utter misery when I owned a home that was part of one! I cringe thinking of the "assessment" residents received to pay for this :/
Love the high vis and traffic control for the equipment on the road and the guy just standing casually on the blind side of the machine real professionals
Should have used a removable gate. That way the heavy flows could be allowed to wash the sediment out and the gate used when you want to store more water.
I find this video satisfying. By the way the old water looks dirty, can be home for many mosquito eggs and gross stuff, water system should always be clean and flowing.
Read the description if you want to know why the pond was drained. Tldr: it is old and full of sediments and this is the most cost effective to deal with it.
Remember there is rebar in the concrete for people saying he can’t use that machine The right way let me see you pick all that up with rebar still intact
Wrong tool for the job, should have used a pecker attachment and remove the rear of the block then even than small excavator could have pulled the remainder of the mass, I mean there is at the most a tonne of concrete there and the majority of the mass is behind the damm, these guys just made it look like much more of complex task than it was
zbudda hahahahaha high fashion for sure. these guys wanted to do their best to look good because they are terrible at their jobs. that is one of the words hoe operators I have ever seen. Looks like he just bought a brand new cat machine (very nice small excavator) that probly has less than 100 hours on it, printed up.some business cards and is getting paid on the job training.
Good video with stable views of the work in progress. Now the satellite views show what remains as stinky mud flats. Since these mud flats surround their community club house and the pool, they should consider planting some hybrid willows to stabilize the area and sop up all that excessive moisture in addition to providing some nice screening. These willows grow fast and develop a root system that will help hold everything in place.
So... a poorly planned pond turns into a virtual cesspool and then a poorly planned solution is devised.... which will have to be corrected again in about 10 years.
jason antigua This is the removal of the Sutton Place HOA (Garland Texas) pond dam on September 28, 2015. For those wondering why the dam was removed. The Board for the HOA decided to have it removed and I am not on the board. But here is what I understand was the situation (may not be totally accurate). The pond is essentially a settling pond for a large portion of the streets of northern Garland. It is feed by 2 storm-water culverts feeding in storm water from the west. Over the nearly 40 years of its life, it has silted up and is now so shallow, that it weed up and look terrible most of the year (spring thru fall). The large rain this spring actually washed a large amount of gravel and rocks (probably concrete) out of the storm-water sewers and into the headwaters of the pond nearly blocking the storm-water drains. And there was always a large amount of trash washed down the storm sewers and into the pond with every rain. Dredging turned out to be to expensive to be funded by the HOA, when the sediment came back as contaminated. If removed, the sediment would have to be treated as toxic waste (lot of money). It is a drainage easement for the city, so attempts to block the flow would result in fines. For 10 years many efforts were made to get the city to pay for the cleanup and where never successful. Recent attempt switched from cleanup to drainage to improve the looks and smell. After much work by the Board with the city, the city approved removal of the dam, letting the sediment dry, and the storm water drainage creating it own channels through the old sediment. The HOA still had to pay for it. So the job went to the lowest bidder. The company hired chose the least expensive way for them to remove the concrete dam (which no one was sure how deep the concrete went).
Who else felt mildly disappointed because he wasn't swinging the ball as far back as he could've?
Clorox Bleach yea
It was a bit more than mildly 😂
No blaring music, no 'channel branding' intro, just the video as promised in the title, UA-cam hero right here.
At first I was like “wow this looks really familiar” then I read the description and I was like “oh because I live here”
A- How does this have so many views?
-and
B- How did it end up in my suggested??
I don't know why I am watching this video...
The perspective makes it look really small
Every one in the comments saying that theyre weak hits obviously doesn't realize there is a reason why he's doing it like that
1. To maintain control of the weight
2. To not damage anything else

Save your own time. All you need to know 2:30 - 4:00 smasked cracks in dam ; 13:05 removed the big pieces; 21:00 broom and dust pan.
What a sad bunch of experts commenting on how they would have done this. The reason he didn't hit it harder is because that sends shit flying everywhere, causing damage, and costing money! You watch one beaver dam removal and suddenly this gets recommended to you.
God dam, those concrete beavers are gonna be mad

Watching that wrecking ball and water drain was oddly satisfying.

This video is from September, 2015, but the comments are from two days ago.
UA-cam is weird.
Why am I here watching this?
this is the best dam demolition I've ever seen. it's also the only dam demolition I've ever seen.
Theyre quite satisfying for some reason
I see a lot of folks here didn't read the dam video description. (see what I did there lol) It is an old, man made storm water retention pond that had filled with sediment. They removed the dam to allow the water to flow through without causing flood issues as more sediment comes in basically. This way, the water can just pass through.

This ain't exactly the Mississippi River. I'm on the East bank, and now I'm on the west bank.
Special EDy what's up special edy! when are going to make more videos?
Why dafaq am I watching this? Is my life that boring to watch a damn dam being removed?!
but can flex seal fix it ?
21:00 anybody els notice the guy that brought gloves and tools for work and just watched the other guy work
I'm watching this... swinging my phone... trying to get that damn wrecking ball to swing harder.
Do they know anything about potential forces of a pendulum... aka, how to swing it to applu the most force possible
That's a dam? Beavers in Canada do better than that.
The uploader's detailed video description is much appreciated.
The first 2 minutes of this are weirdly satisfying
I always marvel at how easy the operators of these machines make it look, when I know for a fact it is not easy! Used to watch the operators on our construction sites, before I retired. Well done!!!
Christine Camm It really only takes like 15-30 minutes to get the hang of one of those. 5-10 if you're good enough
Ever seen them roll? Not a pretty sight... Never underestimate them, even experienced drivers have accidents...
I watched one dam video and now this is all I see in my feed.
i had no idea so many UA-cam commentors doubled as backhoe experts, much props
Trey Wright
excavator. not backhoe
Trey Wright, don't you know that people sitting behind a keyboard are infinitely more knowledgeable than people who operate machines daily?
graciousAnomaly
I know sitting in that seat is hard on the body?
Trey Wright - You must also not realise how many construction jobs there are in America and how many excavators are out there...
Trey Wright not a backhoe
Looks much better now! They even made like a small swamp!
3155 Wagon Wheel Rd
Garland, Texas
It seems everyone here complaining about the operator is forgetting that the HOA had to pay for this themselves and used the lowest bidder. You get what you pay for! You want top shelf work, you pay top dollar.
That guy must get paid by the swings.
I dont get why people are saying it could have been done better or faster. The entire project took 24 minutes.... lol Thats pretty quick if you actually think about it instead of just babbling.
TrueFilmz accurate. People don't understand he cost of operation. 24 minutes is nothing for these guys
TrueFilmz the video is 24 mins long in real life it took about 35 to 40 mins because when u edit the film and upload it it compresses the video
Can someone put in a Health bar for the dam?
this is one of those videos you don't quite know why you're watching but still we watch it anyway 😂
Mark Hemingway I know xD😂
I bet they started out with good intentions when they put in that dam. Then they realized it took on sediment so it spread out way past their original intention, became stagnant and increased the mosquito population 20 fold.
They literally had the worst attachments for this job
Branden Trowbridge After reading the description they didnt want to fund the dredge. This explains the lack of attachments. City didnt want to pay the extra cost of a breaker attachment.
That was strangely satisfying to watch.
H.O.A. didn't want to pay for it but they collect monthly fees from everyone. What happened to the money??
Why is this recommendation to everyone
Whenever I see big construction machines it always catches my interest. I would feel like a kid again because kids are always curious.
if the contamination was too bad the city would not have ok'd the dams removal knowing the sediments would go downstream. that is monitored very closely by several agencies.

so why was this dam there to begin with?
why did they remove that beautiful dam. it probably took the beavers a long time to lay the rebar and find quikcrete and let alone build that.
ratrodramblin Wonderful comment, +1 internets
its a beaver in the digger
The video description answers most of the questions asked in the comments section and is worth reading. There is also a link to a follow-up video posted a year later.
So did they drain the pond because of it being stagnant and being a possible breeding ground for mosquitoes?
Operator was cheap and successful. No one was injured. No equipment was damaged.
Everyone starts somewhere.
So the critical comments seem petty and even possible examples of the dunning Krueger effect.
That first crack in the concrete was very satisfying
Wonder how many pistols they will find in there
Annoyed me how little momentum he was getting on the swing
I accidentally hypnotized myself while watching this, now I can levitate
Is no one going to mention the massive buckets of concrete chunks being swung around and the dudes below them aren’t wearing hard hats?
The guy in the white shirt should have let the operator do his job and get the heck out of the way.
Did anyone start moving ur head w/ the Bolder?
I'm curious what this place looks like now
I don’t know why this was in my recommended vids but I loved it
Why does this have 2.8M views??
Anyone know what happened downstream of this? Obviously this pond wasn't "flood control" but that's still alot of water moving somewhere.
You know they have hydraulic hammers right?
because its on Garland thats why lol
This way makes for more of a dramatic effect
HOA probably didn't want a hammer from the loud noise it makes
Machine operator is very good at his job.
When I saw the first hit that's when I realized it was a 20+ minute video
Cool video of the procedure. Thanks for posting. Interesting seeing the tiny wrecking ball :)
Aside from that ... HOA's costed me nothing but utter misery when I owned a home that was part of one! I cringe thinking of the "assessment" residents received to pay for this :/
What is this? 1886? Where is your breaker?
Love the high vis and traffic control for the equipment on the road and the guy just standing casually on the blind side of the machine real professionals
Dont lift over your drives :/ good way to tip.
Should have used a removable gate.
That way the heavy flows could be allowed to wash the sediment out and the gate used when you want to store more water.
Who else though the dam was way smaller until that one dude walked in front of it and put its size into perspective?
my dr used that same pick tool for my prostrate exam :/
Thank God I no longer live in a HOA controlled community.
That operator was really good. Smooth, careful, easy on rigging.
I find this video satisfying. By the way the old water looks dirty, can be home for many mosquito eggs and gross stuff, water system should always be clean and flowing.
I have no idea why this was recommended video. but I do have to admit, i though it was interesting and watched it.
Read description if u want to know why theu removed it
Read the description if you want to know why the pond was drained.
Tldr: it is old and full of sediments and this is the most cost effective to deal with it.
Why does this have 2.6m views
Any video of it now?
Probably eliminated a major mosquito problem
Remember there is rebar in the concrete for people saying he can’t use that machine The right way let me see you pick all that up with rebar still intact
Wrong tool for the job, should have used a pecker attachment and remove the rear of the block then even than small excavator could have pulled the remainder of the mass, I mean there is at the most a tonne of concrete there and the majority of the mass is behind the damm, these guys just made it look like much more of complex task than it was
Chris Taylor They're probably paid by the job, so however they got it done, it didn't cost more.
Many thousands of engineers and workers labored many years to build the Sutton Place Dam... what a shame.
This was quite satisfying to watch
We're going to be working in mud and crap today, I want you wearing your best white t-shirt and cream pants...
zbudda hahahahaha high fashion for sure. these guys wanted to do their best to look good because they are terrible at their jobs. that is one of the words hoe operators I have ever seen. Did I really just watch all this?
Its rare to see wrecking balls anymore. Normally they use different bucket attachments or just a standard bucket and a thumb
That wrecking ball is so cute
LitMofo 420Bl4zing qa
why was it blocked in the first place?
Leo Brazz Possibly to let there be a pond or lake, but now they are letting it flow under the bridge
So... a poorly planned pond turns into a virtual cesspool and then a poorly planned solution is devised.... which will have to be corrected again in about 10 years.
F Huber That's Garland for ya, used to live there. Nothing in that city is planned with much thought.
I am on my lunch break, and I am watching this.
I bet that smelled fantastic after it drained.
What about the fish which clearly lived in the pond.
Why was the dam put there in the first place then?
Jenson they moved downstream
This is how the city gets rid of the homeless people living in the drainage pipes
Where is the thumb on the excavator?
the beginning looks like a little kid playing with his remote controlled demolisher
A dam fine video, if you ask me...
Worst use of a wrecking ball ive ever seen, looks like a 12yr old is operating it
so what's going on and why did they remove the dam?

Michael Jones I've not got time to read descriptions, you tell me now !!!
