@@GerhardtFox I'm really sorry to hear that. Carrie and Lowell as you probably know is the depiction of Sufjan's own grief. Best of luck to you and your mom. The Ascension and A beginner's mind might also be a good listen in this hard times
@@mark_mathersthis is so cute and hilarious. The hazards of writing dense lyrics is sometimes when you talk about your brother's daughter, people think your niece is a metaphor.
I feel like the cadence and certain elements sure, but if you're not feeling Sulfan's music on a deeply spiritual level ur doing it wrong. The emotions he's able to evoke in the mundane along with beautiful musicality is what makes him special. This is cute for joke purposes tho.
This could be seen as a negative, but I see it as a positive. This is how a lot of trends begin. Think about the first guitar players and how they only used certain cord progressions for all of their songs. With hindsight, it's all very simple. In reality, it created a new baseline for which future generations of musicians could then build upon by it being so accessible.
this isn't accurate about the states part for anyone listening to his newest albums, I do agree with the specific memory part, homeroticism and asmry music though and you nailed his high pitched voice voice damn
Yeah nice try and I get the angle you’re after but you actually just proved how much of a genius he is. Guy can write a song about a wasp and a swimming hole and turn his phrases into a transcendent song. Or write a beautiful song about a serial killer which is dark af yet one of the most beautiful pieces of modern music at the same time. I’m sure there is a way to be reductive of all artists in this manner but you definitely picked the wrong subject bc this man writes amazing music. Regardless of what you think of the lyrics.
John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Is such an amazing song. Its equal parts haunting, beautiful, sad, emotional. One of my favourites which is ridiculous considering the subject matter. so powerful. I do find this short funny though, it's definitely something someone who had listened to a couple of the more boring sufjan songs might surmise about him.
Hmmmm, so funny and click-bait-ish, but at some point deconstructing fails (it definitely gets clicks though) Sufjan doesn’t just write formulaic things. Take this for instance: I have called you children, I have called you son. What is there to answer if I'm the only one? Morning comes in Paradise, morning comes in light. Still I must obey, still I must invite. If there's anything to say, if there's anything to do, If there's any other way, I'll do anything for you. I was dressed embarrassment. I was dressed in wine. If you had a part of me, will you take you're time? Even if I come back, even if I die Is there some idea to replace my life? Like a father to impress; Like a mother's mourning dress, If you ever make a mess, I'll do anything for you
This one is meh. There's a better parody titled something like "What Sufjan Sounds like to non Sufjan fans." You know it's good because actual Sufjan fans like it. I think there's a line about sitting in Jesus lap. The comments are hilarious and as spot on as the parody.
Okay and then theres the BQE album and a million other styles he does! I love your videos but don’t you go oversimplifying Sufjan 😭 the making it gay and biblical at the same time did have me laughing tho
This listless person just made it up to be cool. W Which he isn't. Sufjan writes beautiful and his songs have a monotony because there is a thing called Variation in singing techniques.
@@ChuckECheese69 Excuse my previous mention of having different forms of singing. He writes too well in my opinion that doesn't seem to matter. But to showcase his ability he choose to sing which I agree isn't his cup of tea. But just to show what he wrote he sings it out. Why do you spread hate when all you guys are doing is judging a real time professional who's actually getting up and doing something. While you judge him sitting and watching social media like a overgrown pile of dung.
Hilarious and spot-on! Sufjan is super creative and his music crosses many genres, but I can only take so much of his soft, breathy singing and those kind of lyrics. He needs a TRT injection and a wife or girlfriend.
and then you find yourself bawling on the floor after the song is over
sufjan is the only one that can make dirty lyrics and biblical things congruent, speaking as an atheist who consumes his music every waking moment.
I just started listening. I love his voice it’s so beautiful. Where should I begin?
@@GerhardtFox begin with his album Carrie and Lowell
@@GerhardtFox I second with Carrie and Lowell but as soon as you are familiarised with the song listen to the live version. They're even better imo
@@Clara-nk8rd I started there. We found out last week my mother’s cancer spread. I’ve been listening to Death With Dignity and Fourth Of July.

This is so funny lol, i adore Sufjan's music, one of my favorites ever, and you nailed it with humor.
i unironically like this very much
I cant even argue, thats exactly what all of his music is
you havent listened to 'the age of adz' then
Or the entire enjoy your rabbit album
Almost accidentally Eliot Smith - which sounds like the title of a Sufjan song.
So real.. I still dunno what mystery of love is about 😂
Bi-curious plowing.
still a mystery
its about the mystery. of love.
It's a MYSTERY ✨️
The lyrics to mystery of love actually makes sense when you analyze it
You forgot to name several species of bird.
something oddly specific:
*running plover has entered the chat*
these teachings are so interesting. As a singer i can say, that your voice is soothing. Its like the Holy Spirit is in there.

Nailed it! 😂
Need a full version man please!
Poor Suf 🤣 but is hilarious though lol
You can’t even feel offended as a Sufjan fan since it’s pretty accurate 😂😂😂😂
I like how it goes ever so slightly off key when he mentions the frog
as someone from michigan who loves sufjan stevens, this brought a tear to my eye
this is brilliant😆
Don't forget lyrics about your niece that could be taken in a weird way. Seriously though, I love Sufjan's music and this is hilariously accurate.
this is properly funny. . . honestly, absolutely brilliant
OMG...so good. I've always been in love with him...but, you...😍😍

Wish your song had been longer.

I just know he has sm religious guilt for being into men I feel sorry for him I know how that feels but I left religion thankfully

Sufjan doesn’t just write formulaic things. Take this for instance:
I have called you children, I have called you son.
What is there to answer if I'm the only one?
Morning comes in Paradise, morning comes in light.
Still I must obey, still I must invite.
If there's anything to say, if there's anything to do,
