our dear overlords mike and marcus, please release this. this is some of the best boc content i've ever heard. it deserves to be released officially and not spread around in poor quality!
once it gets released, nobody will care any longer, it has a certain aesthetic that it hasn't been released and is only available in such bad quality. some things were meant to be unattainable I guess, actually no fuck it i want those beats.
@@bastiaanschouwink3562 The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet was just discovered a few weeks ago (a later demo take in higher fidelity), the aesthetic is different and much of the mystery is no longer there now that it has an ID. This would also apply to the clandestine feeling in this live set in a way, where you can hear bouncers being assertive in the background about stopping recording from the audience driving the presentation.
@@bastiaanschouwink3562 It would change the clandestine aesthetic of this live set, with bouncers being heard at points enforcing live recording from the audience and driving the feeling this was the best fidelity possible from the brave soul discreetly recording this this bootleg without being found out, that was never supposed be heard outside the show.
If this is indeed "Noatak" from Hooper Bay, a long with the 30 chilling seconds of Circle that I adore, Hooper Bay could be the best Boards of Canada album I've never heard.
Noatak from Hooper Bay is roughly 20 seconds longer than this track, but who knows, maybe there's an intro to make it 8 minutes and 40 seconds approximately.
whats the speculation that this is from hooper bay? the length? it is really intriguing though that what we think we will never hear may be right in front of our faces.
@@Smola666 Because the vocoded voice says "Noatak", its pretty easy to make it out actually. Noatak is supposed to be a track on the Hooper Bay EP. The track length also indicates that is is likely the same song as Noatak is listed as being 8:40, this live version is only 20 seconds off. Seems like it likely all fits together, now if we could only have the rest of that EP...
@@musicman9901 I never actually could understand any of the voices on this track. Especially with that poor quality, even if my english isn't that bad. Yeah It would be pretty cool if we could finally listen to these masterpieces in studio version. I feel in love with this track from the first listen. One of the boc best I could undoubtly say.
@@Smola666 I feel like the childs voice at :35 says "louder" but id have to take out my headphones and listen closer, the voice at 2:24, 2:42, 3:23 etc is the one saying the title. Idk I think it might just be to do with accents and how different people hear different things. Phonetically it sounds like a British accent of some sort saying "nnno- ah - tahk" to me. Yeah definitely would be cool to have the originals but I'm thankful at least this version exists- the live aesthetic adds to it but I wish it was like Julie and Candy where we have both versions. Ive been listening to BoC off and on for years and am just now finding out how cryptic and secretive they are, I wonder what the main motivation for creating music/art only to not share it is, other than the mystique?
musicman9901 there is no way this is from Hooper Bay... their music did not sound like this at the time. They weren't making this kind of stuff before they made Twoism... lol. The noatek sample is just a sample, possibly a reference to their old shit
Something ive noticed with BoC is that they dont retread old ground. Nothing from the old tunes tapes and other past releases were redone for their studio albums (with the exception of maybe a few tracks here and there like bocuma and the color of the fire, but then again those tracks released relatively closer to around when MHTRTC released). Shot in the dark says they were probably pissed when their past releases made their way online.
@@josshibu4155 I think you are right. Like most amazing artists they are probably total perfectionists, and either don't like this song, or can't quite finish it to their liking. They might just think it's a shallow ditty, good for the dancefloor but not their preferred style. I hope not
@@josshibu4155 Smallest Weird Number was on Geogaddi and the Random 35 Tracks Tape (though reversed). I don't think they're against looking into old material if it works for the themes and sound of their current work.

every time I listen to this, I'm not sure who I dislike the most - the person with the camera, the person that complains about having sore eyes, or the person that explains in detail exactly why their eyes are sore. probably number 3

Amazing track, one of my favs
Waiting for the day they just drop a ridiculous box set of about 3000 tracks of all their unreleased shit for the world to hear.
It was discussed before. It was or is in the making. But that was 20 years ago.

Which is why it's one of my favorites.
