  • On this channel I cover the histories of nations empires and people from all over the world. Historical topics are combined with animated maps and visuals that I draw, to hopefully condense complicated subjects into a understandable framework that will leave you wanting to learn more. I hope you enjoy these videos as much as I have enjoyed making them :) If you like what you see here then please consider supporting

Let me correct this gross anomaly. Perhaps many people do not know if this. In the war of the beginning, the war that established Asanteman or brought Asanteman about, the Denkyira war, Osei Tutu I of Kwaman--later became Kumase, Did Not fight in that war. Those who did fight in that war was Adaakwa Yiadom I of Dwaben(Juaben)--by whose hand what became Asante gained the Victory over Denkyira, i.e, Adaakwa Yiadom I, King of Dwaben killed the Denkyirahene Ntim Gyakari at Feyiase, Boahen Anantuo of Mampong, Numapau of Asumegya, Tweneboah Kodua of Kumawu and others. But note this again, Osei Tutu I Did Not Fight In That War.
There's more on the 1818 war with Gyaman. In that war, the Gyamans recruited troops from Kong. The truth of the matter is, the Asante troops under the command of the ASANTEHENE then--chiefly made up of soldiers of the Kumase state were defeated in the initial skirmishes of the battle and were on the retreat to the forest areas of Ahafo. The situation was grave.
The Asantehene then called upon his brother the Dwabenhene for help. The Asantes were vastly outnumbered by the Gyamans and their Kong allies.
It was only upon the arrival of the Dwabenhene with his Dwaben soldiers, that the tide of the battle begun to turn in the favour of the Asantes.
The Dwabenhene Osekyerehene Okoforobuo(fought while climbing the Kwasampire buo in Gyaman) Okotwaasuo(fought and crossed the Nyempene river beneath the Kwasampire buo) Akuamoah Boateng Panin I, as his Titles state, fought and crossed the Nyempene river, scaled and climbed the Kwasampire rock while fighting still and succeeded in slaying Nsoko Ni Agyei who was the General in command of the Gyaman forces.
By this significant deed of the Dwabenhene Akuamoah Boateng Panin I, Victory was gained over the Gyamans and Kongs.
I must mention that the Denkyirahene Otibu who was then under Asante rulership, Akyem Bosomehene Attafua or so, Akyem Kotokuhene(forgotten his name), Nkoransahene who were all under Asante also fought bravely and distinguished themselves in this battle.
I particularly resent and do not like this sort of historical accounts of Asante, that makes it seem as if it was only the Asantehene and his Kumase forces who were responsible for Asante victories in the great wars of the past. This sort of narrow minded rendition of Asante history is most Ungrateful.
Also, the title of this video does not reflect entirely what has been said in it. Get a better Title.

Nonsense. We must learn to be Honest in the recounting of Asante history and give Credit and Honour to those who deserve it. Not give the Due Glory of one to an undeserving person or entity.

In summary the Asante army emerged victorious against kwakwo adinkra of gyaman in 1818. The bantamahene amankwatia who was the spearhead together with dwaben boaten, kokofu, koragye ampaw of akyem bosome and other tributary/ vassal states were able to overcome the initial defeat to finally defeat adinkra.
N.B. Asante wars in precolonial era was a collective one which comprised forces from metropolitan Asante and in some cases vassal states were called upon to take part. Any victory/ defeat was for the entire Asante kingdom, that is what matters the most

@@IsaacAsamoah-e7i Let us learn to give credit and honour to whom deserves it. Note that the first Asante army under the Bantamahene was soundly defeated by the Gyamans and were as a result on the retreat. It wasn't until the arrival of the Dwabenhene with his Dwaben army chiefly, that the tide of the battle turned in the Asante's favour. That Is An Undisputable Fact, known to those of knowledge about that war.
What is also indisputable is the fact that the Valiant Deed of the Dwabenhene Osekyerehene Nana Akuamoah Boateng Panin I, Osekyere Nyempene, Okotwaasuo, Okoforobuo to respectfully accord him all his earned Titles, is what Gained the Victory for Asante in that war. That is him crossing the Nyempene river while under fire and scaling the Kwasampire buo or Rock and succeeding in slaying the Commander of the Gyaman forces Nsoko Ni Agyei, is what won the victory for Asante.
Not your Kokofuhene crossing the Tain river, which deed, didn't produce or bring about any victory in that war.
We have to learn to be brutally honest when it comes to renditions of Asante history and give credit to those who shed their blood to prevent an impending total defeat of Asante, as nearly took place in the Gyaman war of 1818.
Onipa ye ade3 a ose ayeyie. Bonniay3 nnye.

There is always true and false stories about history. There are untrue accounts in what this man in narrating. The Gyaman King for instance, did not fabricate a golden stool as it is said in this story.
Asantes have always be good in changing facts to suit themselves.
    Long live Bono Kingdom!

ok let me help you with asante-akyem war in precolonial era in a summary form. akyem resistance to Asante political domination was persistent . Following the defeat of Denkyira in 1701 at Feyiase, Osei Tutu 1 decided to go and punish akyem kotoku who had supported denkyira in the war( they are both from the agona clan). Osei Tutu was ambush shot by akyem kotoku forces and fell into the pra river and his body was never found. Opoku ware avenged the death of his grand uncle by inflicting a decisive victory against akyem in 1742 killing apau of kotoku, ba kwante of abuakwa and owusu akyem heir to the abuskwa stool. Osei Kwadwo defeated akyem in 1765 in which pobi asumaning of abuakwa lost his life . thus he brought akyem under Asante. he later deposed obirikoran as okyenhene and imposed twum ampofo. By 1816 Asante had successfully brought akyem under her control by defeating akyem leading to the death of Kofi Asante, the okyenhene. however akyrm gained her independence permanently after the battle of Katanansi/Dodowa in 1826 when the British asked Asante to renounce her claim over all the tributary states in the Mclean treaty of 1831 which recognized the Pra river as a boundary between Asante and the allied forces of the British and Danes which included the Ga-dangme, fante, akyem, akwapin, denkyira assin.
