The plan is to leave the ECHR. Then all the rights of citizens are at risk. This is the true aim.

That's what worries me. People think it's just there for those who arrive here and then get told to leave, to use to as a way to stay. It's not. It's there to protect the rights of UK born citizens. How many times have parents with dying babies and children who disagree with medical decisions about turning off life support, who have failed in UK courts to keep life support on, and have taken it to ECHR. It's about OUR rights.
You can't leave the ECHR as such but the Council of Europe & then the UK will join Belarus & Russia as being the only European nations not in the Council of Europe.
Won't help Cruella & her far right backers though regarding the immigrants, since Britain will still be bound by international law under the UN's Refugee Convention.
Leaving the UN will send the UK into a very dark place.

Thanks, because that reminded me of the time frames and that it is not possible, which also reminded me of why I had thought of trying to circumvent the ECHR. I have reconsidered.
On reflection I may have fallen into the EU trap. The Tories are doing a shoddy job and they would like to do more, but their hands are tied by this pesky international organisation. Grumble, sovereignty, grumble. Sound familiar? The Tories have created the entire migrant narrative and in fact the real crisis that exists. Doing everything they can, but stifled by ECHR. And just like last time, there is enough the right wing don't like in the organisation to give it plausible critique, but only a true believer would want to leave. So, no referendum please.
It also forces opposition to come up with an alternative plan to address the crock of an issue. They have kept this bubbling because they are in control of it and we aren't talking about what a state we are in - we are in paradise and hordes are trying to break in.
I don't completely doubt my first premise as I wouldn't trust the Tories not to return us to the feudal system if they could.
Why is it despite being in power for 13 years, Tories still fall back on the “well it was the Labour government that wrecked it all” excuse? There have been 3 general elections and 5 different prime ministers since Labour were last in power….

What none of them are mentioning is that the overall population has also grown, so the ratio of people:police officers, even if they get to the same number of officers as 2010, there will still be fewer police per person. Complete hot air, and the journalists need to go in harder on this stuff.

Same thing applies to stuff like NHS funding, education etc etc. Saying they want to get back to 2010 levels of funding, while the demand for these services has increased significantly more due to population growth is just straight up nonsense.

The total numbers of police officers is a metric which communicates nothing.
We should be looking at a more meaningful metric such as the ratio of the number of police officers to number of people in the U.K’s population!
The U.K. population grew by 4.3 million (6.9%) between 2010 and 2020, did the number of police officers grow by 6.9%? No, by filling in the gap now, we still have less police officers per head!
Claiming asylum is entirely legal in international law and via the Refugee Convention, that Britain has signed.
It follows that asylum seekers are not "illegal" nor are they arriving "illegally".
Quantity over quality in the replacement police numbers, just look at the current issues in public confidence following their publicised failings. Take a tour around your town... that trendy wine bar or apartment block used to be your local police station..... 600+ have gone, courts closed, 20,000 police support staff axed since 2010. As for her migrant rants, it is abhorrent that she & Sunak take this stance when in the period when their parents 1st came to this country the same rhetoric was being thrown at them.
