How about connecting this to an iPad/iPhone DAW through USB instead of the computer ? (like mobile ZenBeats ?)
Also some more integration with the MC-101 would be cool, like being able to select pattern numbers or variation chains to be launched or stopped on the TR from an MC-101 clip trigger message.

Finally bought it and love it! Takes a day to learn but you can create some awesome beats. You can also auto save your beats.

Aside from a few bugs this thing has the biggest bang for the buck. It's superfun but in no way limited or simple except for it's hands on playability. I'm happy I bought one.

Thanks for this invaluable video. I have a question, in INST REC mode can I only record 2 bars (16 eighth notes)? Is it possible to extend the recording interval to your liking and decide for example that the third bar is different from the first bar? Thank you.

Glad to have these walk throughs! I keep going back and forth on if i want a TR6s or TR8s to accompany my MC707...one feature on here i really like is the step loop. that doesnt seem to be available on the 8s though. is that right?

@@jaguarvssnake make sure you have FW version 1.5 or later. Then switch to TR-REC mode and throw some steps on your track. Then press and hold one of the steps and press “nudge” + and - buttons until you see PROB. This is probability. Adjust it with value encoder.

Brother, vou julgar que você é brasileiro pelo sobrenome (igual o meu kkkkkk). Você tem um? Sabe dizer se é possível gravar o que você programou diretamente na DAW via USB? Ele grava tudo em um canal só? Não tô achando informação decente sobre como isso funciona.

32:09 so I take it you can't motion record panning on a per step basis? Like placing hi hats at different places in the stereo field over the course of a full sequence?
I jut got mine yesterday, I have no idea of how to use it nor have I ever played an instrument of any kind, all I know is, I was there, in south Florida during the heyday of techno break beat and underground raves. Name a club between Fort Lauderdale to Panama city, I was there.
Could I play an external drum generator (like a Division Department 01/IV) with TR-6S sequencer (midi output)?
I think this is a great tool. I use it for sketches. Battery power was the selling point for me.
I just have 1 gripe about this unit--- the headphone input is located in FRONT of the unit.
They could include at least one trigger output too. I want to control my analog kick synth.
I hate whenever headphone outputs are on NOT on the front of a unit. I don't sit behind my drum machines when I use them
The most annoying placement ive seen. Other than that this is an invaluable peice of gear.
Does the unit support midi sys ex messages since there i a lot of menu diving I would think it would be great if you can map out some of those parameters

Somehow for me, the Last Step function doesn't work for an individual variation inside a pattern, although you can set it up that way - it just ignores the shortened length of the variation I have set. Does anyone else have that problem?

How can i change parameters on a single step. Is this possible to do it not in a live recording (like 31:26), but to do i t "slowly" while the pattern is stopped.
Let's say i have an open hi-hat pattern with eight notes. On the first seven i use a low decay to make it sound like a closed hihat, but on the last step i want to turn up the decay to have a open hihat. In that way i could save one track for some other stuff, right?
Great video. I’m still trying to figure out the variations. Can I program Variation 1 to repeat a certain number of times before it swaps over to variation 2?
I don't think so but you could copy variation A to B & C and then set your second variation on D.
Can I connect this device to my xone92 mixer and use it with it on a single channel?

Roland has been hit or miss for the last 20 years (their instrument UI is often a disaster), but this one is a hit! It needs a better display, but other than that, it’s a great piece of kit! Nice work!
Is possible to set the number of times a variation is played and then another variaton? I mean, if is possible to play variation A e B boucing each other a certain number of times and then a C variation.

My rythems on my roland play on every 8th beat. How do i make it to where i can continuously add to the beat without it stopping? I want the rythem to be consitent like this 25:10

i feel like nobody ever explains what the settings are to select to get the 6s clocked with your DAW. I have the driver, read the manual, i have the sound coming through, but i cant get it to sync/ clock via USB to record the sequences in my computer. I was under the impression you can record each separate track and sequences into your DAW but i have yet to successfully figure that out. I enjoyed this tutorial, but Ive been looking for answers for a month and have yet to find any. Can you even record each separate track, and clock tempo, via usb? and if so, how? what settings do i choose in the utilities menu? is it because im using garageband, and not logic, or ableton?
Even the manual just says "plug it in and download the driver" but nothing else. If anyone can help, or if someone can make a specific how to video, I'll be forever grateful.
just connect the 6s with usb, driver will be installed automaticly.
I think you missed 1 step!
You have to select the 6s as your audiocard in the pc.
Go to audiosettings and choose 6s as youre audio out.
So you deselect youre existing sounddevice and you select the 6s as youre main audiodevice.
Now you can choose all the channels to be active.
next select the 6s in your DAW as youre asiodriver and you can choose the seperate channels and a mix channel.
This is on a PC so if you want to use more sounddevices at the same time you should look into asio4all
I was confused at first but figured out i had to turn omni midi mode on to use an external keyboard with it, and also had to set the clock to the usb rather than internal; both of these things are found under the utility button
How do you clear a preset pattern of all its data on the tr 6s?
When I want to make a beat It plays all the beats then goes quiet for 4 cycles then plays again.
Any tips?
Does anybody know if its possible to adjust pan on individual steps ? The only parameter i can find to edit individual steps is “tune” ?? If i adjust pan in “instrument edit” it effects all steps played by the instrument.
You could sync the LFO to 1/16 and let it affect pan, but you're then st the merci of the LFO waveshape (but at least you could vary pan on a per step basis)

Are the output jacks balanced TRS or just unbalanced TS? The manual doesn't give any information on that.
Questions: if each instrument track (channel 1-6) can have it's own midi channel assigned, can each sound then be played chromatically via and external midi keyboard? or... How can I have say 3 pitch toms recorded on the 'LT' track...the presets seem to suggest it can be done, I just can't work it out. Be great to be able to change the pitch of the clap throughout a pattern to. How is it done please?
In other videos, I have seen them step edit each one individually, it takes a while, but you can create a more melodic sound by tuning up or down the drum throughout the loop. I can't speak to the midi control, but I hope that helps
Can the Variations play at the same time? For example, if I will choose a different option for this variations?
I don't think so. You can chain them together to play sequentially but not simultaneously

Is there any explanation anywhere about 1. What all of the options under Utility actually (this video is comically bad in this section) and 2. How to set it so that I can control the device (preferable different DAWs)? The manual about useless in this area.

You use variations. ABCD = 4-bar beat
hmm why does 255 ATTACK = the opposite of maximum attack tho ? you would expect 0 attack to be the sharpest and 255 to be maximum attack ie the softest? did they just get that backwards or ?

Yes you can. You'll need to install the driver first which can be found on the TR-6S product page under downloads. Check the video description for the link.
