Great breakdown Sam! As for the "set up" shots - that's the filmmaking aspect to my videos i like to incorporate and I would say my vlogs are more of a hybrid :)
@@elorenelorenelorenelorenelorenu waste more time by projecting aimless anger through empty critiques 🙌 “keep the hate in your mouth, buy it drinks, keep it fed”
I agree with the crater. I watch more UA-cam than “TV” so I always have the idea that I am watching something for entertainment. To me it’s like watching a movie or a tv show. Real or fake isn’t as important as long as it isn’t made to look real and it’s all pre staged. Great job both Riza and also great breakdown.
Right now Life of Riza is one of my favourite channels. It is cinematic storytelling and refreshing to see someone not doing what everyone else is doing when it comes to the way UA-cam wants you to make videos. 👏🏼
About her filming on the rush, as an audience I knew that it's not authentic, but I was happily shocked about the effort she has put in to filming that. So, I really enjoyed it 🎉
I came for a video about Life of Riza and stayed for you. You’re a natural and this is a great break-down. You talked about all my questions and thoughts about her video 👏🏽👏🏽
Not sure he's a natural- pretty sure there's a lot of work there to make it look natural. Though I join you 100% on the came of Risa, stayed for him; I actually got tricked into watching this video because I thought this was a video from her with the Thumbnail! No hard feelings, was worth it 🙂↕
I love to see real raw authentic youtube videos that show mundane daily things and people's experiences. I am documenting my life and it has been a true inspiration to some people, especially I am going through my self-journey at the moment. A lot of people can relate to that and people are tired of these fake influencers who are just chasing $$$, instead of them chasing money they should be chasing inwards...
When I was watching the last seen, I also had the same feeling about authenticity. But on the other hand, it did not bother me because she is obviously having a scenario and so many creative thoughts that you almost watch her videos as you were watching a short film. I find her sincere for wanting to document her life, and while doing that putting all the skills and creativity into it since it is also her passion and profession, which escalates the sense of the moments of her life, ie. you could feel more of the excitement. Love her content and great breakdown.
So I made my first comment half way through. Just finished. I hate it when people self promote their own content on someone else’s channel… BUT… I am also breaking half of UA-cam’s own rules and prove that it can work. Also, I’d have given up or got burnt out a long time ago if I was just chasing the algorithm and not making videos I cared about. Ok. Monologue over. Keep up the great work!
I absolutely loved your video! You are so funny and enjoyable to watch! I discovered Risa a week ago and followed her 1 minute into her first video. It s cinematic, sweet and a breath of fresh air!
Sam, loved your breakdown! Your video in itself was as exciting as Riza’s 😂 I’m a new fan of Riza and she inspires me to create cinematic vlogs now - which is why I loved your point on the “set up” shots. As a viewer, I get sucked in to the narrative and visuals but when I try or plan to replicate these in my actual life, it makes me go “how the heck can I set up those angles when I’m ACTUALLY rushing!” 😂😂 I’d probably do it your way (handheld) but Riza’s reply also helps remind me that it’s partly filmmaking and those need planning! Thanks for these videos and breaking the rules of UA-cam!
I’ve followed her for a couple years. Her style definitely speaks to me and as I’ve been on this path to developing my own voice and videos there are techniques she uses I hope to capture. I’ll be watching a few more of your videos and will be checking out your course. Thanks.
you are a breath of fresh air man. great vid. tons of useful info here but delivered in a way where i feel like part of the convo and not being 'talked at'
Hi Sam, First, I would like to point out, your breakdown was great! Second, thank you for speaking on the connection of the music and how she delivered her content with montage and then her words and back to montage. You often hear people talk about how video editing and music kind of coincide but I haven't seen any that broke it down where I've understood it exactly. Finally, If this video is any indication on the rest of your content, I'm subscribing. Really really well done!
The production value of the rushed scene, was jarring. Having some sense of the amount of effort it takes to pull off several of those shots and the lack of authenticity to the actual story did pull me out of the moment a bit. I wonder how many non-creators noticed though? It does drive the story well. That said, like the iMac and the notes, Riza is a vibe. Her style is so refreshinging and inspirational. Thanks for this breakdown. You've articulated so much that I love about her work.
13:12 I love how your breakdown incorporate how the video was actually filmed! Please keep incorporating more of this reality because as a viewer i sometimes think to myself the speed and accuracy to get the shot in one take so anxiety inducing 😂
loved that breakdown sam! thanks :) i've been following riza for over 3 years and i'm so happy her channel finally blew up so more people see how talented she is! 😍
Your breakdown was great. Riza's video awesome! And yeah the question you asked - I prefer authenticity of the moment and you're right if she'd shoot it handheld or even if selfie style running when she's late. It looks a lot real because the audience knows otherwise that it's all a setup and she's not late. She probably has 2 hrs left to plan the shots and do everything on time and get a shoot done before she goes on to pick someone and the home makeover and cleaning up was also probably done over a couple of days. Nobody gets their cleaning started and films it perfectly and also hopes to finish it in hours. It's a nice cinematic film but feels unauthentic in that sense.
I have been watching Kariza'a channel for some time and I have just fallen in love with the videos. Being a filmmaker I know how hard it is. Also I have been watching your videos too. They are super fun. I just loved how you explained everything in the video. I don't know how to say this but, thank you so much. ❤
I feel the same about the in-authenticity. I would rather feel that perspective of rushing rather than seeing footage more suited to normal speed of travel.
Great video Sam. Don't ever stop this series. Here's are some creators you should make breakdown videos on Ryan ng films Bernardo Bacalhua Gawx Art Max Reisinger Colt kirwan.
i love your videos man! and I agree the 3rd act was shot with priority on vibecliche and not as authentic as an actual airport pickup(and we can feel it). to be fair I think it comes with age, a younger version of myself would be just as concerned with propping up narrative / presentation… but now that I’m older any inauthenticity reeks and I can’t not see/feel it. A possible fix for 3rd scene could have been quicker cuts all around so we don’t have time to think about it’s clear she set up her angles… quicker like an old dobrik ending would cut to the chase and deliver same emotion… the odd depth and nuance of these thoughts, decisions, and convos is underrated and deeply appreciated Thanks for always opening good conversations Sam! 👊🏻
Yeah man that’s a great point ! I too probably woulda shot the sequence like that when I was younger.. ( might do a video critiquing my own old vids! ) - thanks for the idea lol
I think you are totally right about the sense of urgency being undermined by the "set-upped" shots. of course it's about style and being engaging, but you shouldn't use style if that goes against what you are telling (i.e. being late) and it's the same if that's tv, cinema, or vlogs: doing the right decision and not just doing the coolest one, should be the filmmaking's way.
Wow, definitely would not know from a film maker aspects. You did such as good job showing everything! Would not think of the 'non-authentic side' as I just enjoy watching her videos because they are so relaxing. This being said, she is truly talented. Not only a filmmaker, storyteller but also an actress! Much appreciate both you and all filmmaker efforts in making videos~
These breakdowns are phenomenal. You both share the frustrations we have trying to appease the algorithm but at the same time make it feel possible to break "the rules". It's a journey I am working on myself but I love the films you produce. Keep it up!
I agree with the rush sequences. I think that is why I always liked Casey Neistat's clips when he cuts to him picking up the camera going to the next locations!
Sam, for manifold ADHD and Autism reasons, I have a lot of trouble visualizing the finished product when I'm thinking of a shot. Likewise I have trouble looking at a shot and reverse engineering it. However, I desperately want to shoot more intentionally, and the hours of videos I've watched on rules of cinema, lighting, and everything else are missing something I need. You speculating at a process like this and showing, more or less, how it would be done, in addition to saying WHY it's being done that way and what it's accomplishing, is seriously bridging some gaps for me. You've nudged me into storyboarding for the next video. Easy sub. Thank you.
Thanks for the amazing shopping trolley demo and the valuable rhythm/sound design segment. I agree the 'running late' narrative seems inauthentic. Riza does a great job, especially with her tracking shots! ◡̈

I definitely considered the setup of the shots and how it takes away from the realism when watching her video. But, her channel and expression is a more lighthearted version of life, rather than an accurate depiction of its stresses. It's sort of a Wes Anderson style escapism from actual difficulties that can help make light of life's troubles and see them in a smaller way.
Huge fan of Riza but as a fellow filmmaker this was HILARIOUS, also because I could totally relate to what you were saying 😂 the amount of effort it takes to create a shot is insane. Respect to you and you’ve got yourself a sub!
Great breakdown, yeah, my first thought when seeing your breakdown of her vid, there's no way this was done in a time crunch with that level of production value. Great story telling and aesthetics on her part, but man, if I were trying to get things done, it wouldn't be with multiple angles of storytelling cinematography, lol. A bit like bullet journaling, some people actually just run their day, while others design a journal to showcase on pinterest that would never be scalable for the actual task at hand.
I’m really new to this, and your insight that when you’re filming sequences you’re not actually working, you’re thinking about the shots and how to get what you want for the story: so helpful! Thank you!
Hello! new to UA-cam creation on a very tight budget!! I know exactly what you mean about the leaving the camera, walking off and coming back to it! those step counts must me off the scale! I'm a home professional decorator, I really like Riza style and that of the Pethericks - who also break the rules with 30 seconds of no verbal content and I love it, being (more than) slightly autistic I find the fast pace, over the top, bright colours and lots of images in a short time too much and overbearing. Thank goodness for @lifeofriza and thank you Sam for helping me understand and breakdown a style I hope to find a space of my own in. Great vid.
Great breakdown. I stumbled across Riza's channel a few months ago, great to see something different and more authentic than most attention grabbing in your face content we see everywhere. I have now stumbled across your channel as well, great stuff!

13:18 totally! I feel like it sells a false narrative and tries to fool me as a viewer, especially since she sells her videos as "vlogs". For the creator side it makes me feel bad when I'm actually running late and can't set all of these shots and I end up with shaky handheld footage that doesn't have the same vibe. Not to mention you have to be a good actor to fake stuff like this. Also can you imagine picking up a non-yt-friendly person from the airport, tired after a long flight and saying "I know you want to shower and rest but can you wait like an hour for me to film all of this stuff?" Or doing that two hour drive again some other day? That being said I love her stuff and loved your breakdown :)
13:39 as someone who just recently found her channel i can say that some parts may not look authenticbut it's story telling. it's like watching a movie,it's like reading a book. it's her life story. And yes it is very interesting to watch creative people like her. i dont even ask why does her vid got so many views.i cant tell by the first 30 seconds
I watched the first 3 minutes of the video and immediately subscribed. Thank you for such a good video in a forest of people copying some UA-camr. To be different, to be interesting, to be incredible, to give 110% of yourself so that the video goes in the direction you imagined. And on the other hand, to make the viewer enjoy watching and the knowledge we discover together. Pure gold!! As a UA-camr, thank you from the bottom of my heart!! You've made my day !
I’m not even a creator and I had the same thought about running late vs filming lol. Your video style is genius, f hilarious with inspiring message too! Keep it up. Subscribed
Dude, you're are so genuinely hilarious! I love the transparancy and bits you put together. Up next, I would love to see you dissect your own videos- Inception!
At 4:17, I started liking you and at 13:56, you won my heart and earned a subscription. Really nicely produced breakdown, entertaining and informative. Looking forward to your future videos.
I think the closet part, she's know the ques of the song by looking at her eyes, she was moving from one direction to another. "Stop" = 1st look "Ly-" = 2nd look "-ing" = 3rd look Genius, from my 2 cents.
while going through the day i was thinking about your videos, so now in the evening i came back and suddenly i saw '3,63k subs´. wtf, i had to double check. keep it up, fantastic work all around! i hope you are aware and confident that it is only a matter of time until the big numbers come, i have zero doubts!
And regarding the: not wanting to be late to pick up your significant other from the airport - I totally relate, I want to be there and greet them as they come out from the door in arrivals :)
Enjoyed this breakdown - been loving Riza's content so it was nice to see your take on it. Keeping me inspired to make the content I want, not what the spectacle creators want.
What an awesome video. When watching vlogs, I defiantly buy into the urgency whenever a creator is 'running late', so I enjoyed hearing you talk about that Sam! Great video, and you fore sure have binge-able channel. 👍
Great breakdown Sam! As for the "set up" shots - that's the filmmaking aspect to my videos i like to incorporate and I would say my vlogs are more of a hybrid :)

it's like watching a movie,it's like reading a book. it's her life story. And yes it is very interesting to watch creative people like her. i dont even ask why does her vid got so many views.i cant tell by the first 30 seconds

Mate, I thought you wrote and presented this so well, and I genuinely laughed at the gags. Keep it up!

I think the closet part, she's know the ques of the song by looking at her eyes, she was moving from one direction to another.
"Stop" = 1st look
"Ly-" = 2nd look
"-ing" = 3rd look
Genius, from my 2 cents.

That was an amazing analysis man! Great Job.
What an awesome video. When watching vlogs, I defiantly buy into the urgency whenever a creator is 'running late', so I enjoyed hearing you talk about that Sam! Great video, and you fore sure have binge-able channel. 👍
Great content. Keep up the frequency. I’m surprised more haven’t found you yet. They will.
