These are lovely. Blue, silver and gold is such a classy combination for Christmas. I’m in England so most people here don’t go as all-out with decorations as Americans do, but we usually have a tree. By coincidence, mine is also decorated in silver and gold with blue/aqua accents and white lights this year. You are right about Christmas family get-togethers. My mum died 5 years ago and we’ve not had a proper family get-together since. It’s true, you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone, so enjoy it while it’s there. Looking forward to the next 11 videos and thanks for all the work that goes into putting them together❤❤❤
I know most people who watch UA-cam have NO idea how much work it is to be consistent and skilled and inspiring. Our son is famous in his field and has a UA-cam channel of almost 2 million subscribers. I’ve seen what it takes!
Beautiful! My parents lived through the Depression so we had to take those individual tinsel pieces off and save them to put on next year. Same with wrapping and ribbons. As for missing those who bring you together. I hear you. But the solution might be simple-- be the one to fill the gap.❤️👍❤️

We normally have lights on the house, the Christmas tree up, and the railings all wrapped in garland. But not this year. we have the floor ripped up to put new flooring in so I was not feeling it. I put up a little Christmas tree that’s in an urn that usually goes outside lol I stuck it on the table in the corner decorated it up and put out my little Snowmen and got the stockings hung on the mantle. But that’s it for this year. I picked the medium blue that you stayed with on this piece. Lovely pieces that can have a Holiday phrase and mailed out to a lucky person as a Christmas card Thank you so much for all you do. Many blessings!
One year I went to visit my parents for the Thanksgiving holiday.. and on black Friday my mom and I would always go out shopping and eat lunch - and we always had the best time... and the year before she passed - we were putting down wood floor on black Friday - so we didn't do our shopping we were exhausted! Putting down flooring is exhausting!! I get it!! You did more than me putting your little tree out on the table! 🤗
This is such a frosty window glass look! ❤ I'm in my late 60's and I have definitely slowed down with the tree, in fact we bought a 4 ft white tree with pastel lights from Dollar General believe it or not and its so pretty! I put a bit extra pink here and there and just a few favorite ornaments. I like poinsettias for my table. That's about it for us.
I have a little 3’ fiber optic tree that was my mom’s last tree… it is pretty too with the tips that light up. I should get it out and enjoy it for a few weeks. 🎄🎄🎄
My grandchildren love Hershey Kisses so I purchased the holiday bag. As they started unwrapping them I challenged them to see who could keep the foil with the fewest rips. Not as hard as you think if you are careful. Now I have green, red and silver foil to glue onto my work with matt medium.

So exciting....so many things running through my mind right now. First off, my husband just walked in with the mail and there's a Garnet Hill catalog with the most gorgeous icy turquoise Christmas ornaments on the cover, along with a salmon/soft rust colored ribbon so I might be inspired to change up my colors a little bit. Secondly, I'm dealing with a little lump in my throat listening to your stories of your Mom/Grandma/Aunt and how the holidays change when our "glue people" pass on. It's so true - my Dad was the glue when it came to family gatherings in summer, but my Momma was the glue at holidays. Now she's in a memory care facility and doesn't even understand that there are holidays. I miss it all, so much. So...about the decorations. Going to my Mom's house was like walking into a Santa's Village, and I mean every nook and cranny had Christmas decor and splendor. I loved being "in it" at her house, but I don't love all of that in my own home now. We like simple, so we do have a slender tree that takes up little space, a nativity on the buffet, a dough bowl on the coffee table with pretty neutral ornaments in it, and a beautiful glittery snowy tree painted canvas above the fireplace that I found at Hobby Lobby this year, with some subtle, neutral mercury type glass trees on either side of the art. A wreath on the front door and that's that. Very simple, very neutral and much more modern that my Momma's Santa Village style. I always thought people could literally shop inside her home when it was all jazzed up for Christmas. So...memories, hold them near and dear because we can always be certain of one thing, that is "change". Now, I'm off to settle into my holiday memories and paint some gorgeous little paintings inspired by you Miss Denise Love! Love putting up my tree every year but totally agree re the taking down. I used to alternate turquoise and silver tree with traditional. This year I had to get rid of my turquoise as we are downsizing to an apt and not room to store them. I really miss that colour tree.
I understand about putting it up and then having to take it down. A friend of mine solved that problem. She had a cubbard made in her family room and put the tree on wheels. After Christmas she would just unplug the lights and roll the fully decorated tree into its own cabinet, close the dirt till next Christmas. Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy.
27:07 oh the icicle story had me flashing back. Same with my mom no more than 1 per tip of the branch. Heaven forbid you grabbed a handful and threw them at the tree. 😂

Hi Denise….your pieces today are gorgeous, as always. Thank you for all of the prompts and descriptions…..very helpful! When I was little, my Mom, me, and my brother, lived with my grandparents for many years. We had to have a real tree and the ornaments could only be handmade ornaments. When I started my own family, I continued with the handmade decorations for my trees every year. The last year that I put up a tree was 2017. My husband died in August of 2017, so that is 1 reason, but the biggest reason is cause after he died, I got new furniture for the living room, and there just is no place to put a tree.
I get that! I live in a townhome.. so there isn't really room for a tree here either. I have a little 3' fiber optic tree I could get out... but I haven't bothered this year 🎄.. I love that you guys would make your ornaments. That is special! 🤗🤗🤗

Beautiful shimmery start to 12 days of holiday art prompts. Thank you so much for the time and energy you put into this advent. I remember the single strands of tinsel, my dad was the general of the decorating, he sat and watched after putting the lights on. My mother and I did the "putting away" every year. I have a wreath on my front door, a few decorations here and there plus a flat Macrame Christmas tree on my wall, it only has lights so far. I just found out I have osteoporosis and don't know if climbing the ladder to get the Large tote of decorations is wise. It is only the dog and I for Christmas Day. My daughters, their partners and my grandson who is 12 going on 40 are spending Christmas Eve brunch together. I am sure my brother would like to have me come for Christmas Day but, he has 3 large dogs that are not well trained and lives with his ex-wife and they bicker. Both my parents and all but one of my aunts and all my uncles (Mom was one of 9 children) are gone and the rest of the family is in VA or Ohio and I live in Florida! Sorry so wordy!
I actually don't mind spending Christmas with my dogs... we have the best time together anyway 🐶... and I hate driving long distances now - I get sleepy driving... So glad you hung out with me today! I have lots of fun things planned!! 🤗🤗🤗
First of thank you for Artful Holidays. And your prompt list. I have a special journal I am going to use starting in January. ❤❤❤ now for Christmas. My family use to share certain Holidays traveling up and down 95. My husband and boys began traveling to my Aunts after my mom passed away. We have zoomed the last few years because of my being ill. However we zoom. Now for decorating. I have a musical outdoor system the lights are sync to the music. We put that up every year. The house we are in now, could accommodate a 12 foot tree. But we now have a 9 foot tree. I love putting it up. Seeing my grandmother's vintage and antique ornaments but I collect snowmen and they cover the tree along with family and friend ornaments we have exchanged over the years. I love it. We needed a new tree and the one I bought is horrible to put up. I'm buying a new one next year hoping for a 10 foot one. LOL. But I also have crafting friend ornaments too. And so much more. I don't even mind putting it away. I get to remember the memories a second time. Very sentimental to me. But my inside is always decorated to the hills. I love decorating for holidays. I really should consider downsizing but nope. Well and on the years my one son, who is in the Navy won't be home I always debate decorating but I live with a husband who loves my tree I do and some yesrs we have kept it up all year long. We love it lit up at night.❤❤❤ maybe you could just do a 4ft white tree or silver tree and decorate it. It might be fun. Then get a huge gift bag put it in decorated and all until next year. I had a friend put her tree in her guest room, decorated and all, then bring it out at Thanksgiving. I'm just saying lol

I have a tree up all year that I made from pretty fabric eucalyptus leaves taped to a large branch rescued from a garden. This has lights and some little critters (owls and squirrels) during the year then for christmas it gets extra lights and teeny tiny gold star filled baubles and other christmas decorations so then it's a christmas tree! So the room doesn't look too bare when they get taken down.
Now that is the way to do it!! I have some metal trees made out of old ceiling tiles I got from the antique market one year - and they stay out all year... so I guess I do the same thing 😂

Denise this is a really inspired Idea ,a sparkly mixed media creative daily countdown. I used to go all out with decorating the whole house,for years.But now. For personal reasons and living alone,I don't really celebrate Xmas now,it's just another day for me.(Matt) P.s I love metallics in my work in different mediums,appeals to the creative magpie in me!
I still celebrate...I just don't decorate 😂... this year every time I saw an art store or site post a mystery box - I ordered it...I have 3 now.. and have saved them to open at Christmas... I can't wait to see what I got 🎨🎨🎨
Yeah - the Ranger site did one, and the St Louis Art site did a small mystery box… and I might have ordered a couple things from Amazon… and now I’ve forgotten what are in those boxes… so it’s a mystery too 😂 (and the Sketchbox site does grab bags sometimes that are good)
my dog is often lying next to me when I'm watching your vids. when you raise your voice in a "ah-hah! look at that: just what I wanted!" style, she often lifts her head and looks toward my tablet due to your increased volume, as if to ask, "what was that?" I smile at her & say, "that's what creative excitement sounds like!" she lowers her head back to its resting position in an "ok, I get it" response.
I watch a lady in Svalbard on youtube all the time.. Cecilia Blomdahl - and every time she comes on my dog perks up since she sees her dog on the tv... then she barks the whole episode... I tell her that is her boyfriend up there 😂

Oh my word Denise, this is just amazing that I am not alone in not putting up a tree and Christmas decor!? I used to? I even bought another NEW lovely brand of Christmas Tree and have NOT put it up!??! It is sitting in its box still...lols! I do a all out interior Santa Workshop sort of theme when I do put my Christmas up. My family never became my little helping elves. Once I left it up a whole year to the next cos I also hate the take fown? So, these 12 days might be the thing for me to be able to feel like I did something for the holidays? ❤❤❤

I think if I had to pick one over the other - I like the Arttx ones for mark making like I enjoy doing and I use them more. Are they lightfast? there isn't much info out there on that for them, generally acrylic paints are light fast unless they are in the fugitive color range.
Denise, after looking through the printed materials that I just downloaded, I would suggest that you continue to do more 12 days of Christmas type video series, but put new photos of paintings on the pages and possibly add or revise some promos & make new painting videos next year. The prompts are really pretty generic & would work over & over again. Don’t re-create the wheel. Instead, make some visual changes & do new videos. You are always making new videos & at Christmas time, I’m always going to be looking for Christmas related projects. Just my opinion though.
Well it’s true … enjoy holidays with family while you can..also, think about volunteering to host if that main person has passed. It’s work to organize, but I think worth it to make new memories and share love together!

I understand about putting it up and then having to take it down. A friend of mine solved that problem. She had a cubbard made in her family room and put the tree on wheels. After Christmas she would just unplug the lights and roll the fully decorated tree into its own cabinet, close the dirt till next Christmas. Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy.

Hi Denise….your pieces today are gorgeous, as always. Thank you for all of the prompts and descriptions…..very helpful! When I was little, my Mom, me, and my brother, lived with my grandparents for many years. We had to have a real tree and the ornaments could only be handmade ornaments. When I started my own family, I continued with the handmade decorations for my trees every year. The last year that I put up a tree was 2017. My husband died in August of 2017, so that is 1 reason, but the biggest reason is cause after he died, I got new furniture for the living room, and there just is no place to put a tree.
I get that! I live in a townhome.. so there isn't really room for a tree here either. I have a little 3' fiber optic tree I could get out... but I haven't bothered this year 🎄.. I love that you guys would make your ornaments. That is special! 🤗🤗🤗

Beautiful shimmery start to 12 days of holiday art prompts. Thank you so much for the time and energy you put into this advent. I remember the single strands of tinsel, my dad was the general of the decorating, he sat and watched after putting the lights on. My mother and I did the "putting away" every year. I have a wreath on my front door, a few decorations here and there plus a flat Macrame Christmas tree on my wall, it only has lights so far. I just found out I have osteoporosis and don't know if climbing the ladder to get the Large tote of decorations is wise. It is only the dog and I for Christmas Day. My daughters, their partners and my grandson who is 12 going on 40 are spending Christmas Eve brunch together. I am sure my brother would like to have me come for Christmas Day but, he has 3 large dogs that are not well trained and lives with his ex-wife and they bicker. Both my parents and all but one of my aunts and all my uncles (Mom was one of 9 children) are gone and the rest of the family is in VA or Ohio and I live in Florida! Sorry so wordy!
I actually don't mind spending Christmas with my dogs... we have the best time together anyway 🐶... and I hate driving long distances now - I get sleepy driving... So glad you hung out with me today! I have lots of fun things planned!! 🤗🤗🤗
First of thank you for Artful Holidays. And your prompt list. I have a special journal I am going to use starting in January. ❤❤❤ now for Christmas. My family use to share certain Holidays traveling up and down 95. My husband and boys began traveling to my Aunts after my mom passed away. We have zoomed the last few years because of my being ill. However we zoom. Now for decorating. I have a musical outdoor system the lights are sync to the music. We put that up every year. The house we are in now, could accommodate a 12 foot tree. But we now have a 9 foot tree. I love putting it up. Seeing my grandmother's vintage and antique ornaments but I collect snowmen and they cover the tree along with family and friend ornaments we have exchanged over the years. I love it. We needed a new tree and the one I bought is horrible to put up. I'm buying a new one next year hoping for a 10 foot one. LOL. But I also have crafting friend ornaments too. And so much more. I don't even mind putting it away. I get to remember the memories a second time. Very sentimental to me. But my inside is always decorated to the hills. I love decorating for holidays. I really should consider downsizing but nope. Well and on the years my one son, who is in the Navy won't be home I always debate decorating but I live with a husband who loves my tree I do and some yesrs we have kept it up all year long. We love it lit up at night.❤❤❤ maybe you could just do a 4ft white tree or silver tree and decorate it. It might be fun. Then get a huge gift bag put it in decorated and all until next year. I had a friend put her tree in her guest room, decorated and all, then bring it out at Thanksgiving. I'm just saying lol

I am barely walking and standing well without a walker, but I have to say, looking at our tree, with all it's flaws, at night it is beautiful and just remembering the music and singing carols with my mom, those memories just flood back. I have a tree up all year that I made from pretty fabric eucalyptus leaves taped to a large branch rescued from a garden. This has lights and some little critters (owls and squirrels) during the year then for christmas it gets extra lights and teeny tiny gold star filled baubles and other christmas decorations so then it's a christmas tree! So the room doesn't look too bare when they get taken down.
Now that is the way to do it!! I have some metal trees made out of old ceiling tiles I got from the antique market one year - and they stay out all year... so I guess I do the same thing 😂

Denise this is a really inspired Idea ,a sparkly mixed media creative daily countdown. I used to go all out with decorating the whole house,for years.But now. For personal reasons and living alone,I don't really celebrate Xmas now,it's just another day for me.(Matt) P.s I love metallics in my work in different mediums,appeals to the creative magpie in me!
I still celebrate...I just don't decorate 😂... this year every time I saw an art store or site post a mystery box - I ordered it...I have 3 now.. and have saved them to open at Christmas... I can't wait to see what I got 🎨🎨🎨

my dog is often lying next to me when I'm watching your vids. when you raise your voice in a "ah-hah! look at that: just what I wanted!" style, she often lifts her head and looks toward my tablet due to your increased volume, as if to ask, "what was that?" I smile at her & say, "that's what creative excitement sounds like!" she lowers her head back to its resting position in an "ok, I get it" response.
I watch a lady in Svalbard on youtube all the time.. Cecilia Blomdahl - and every time she comes on my dog perks up since she sees her dog on the tv... then she barks the whole episode... I tell her that is her boyfriend up there 😂

Oh my word Denise, this is just amazing that I am not alone in not putting up a tree and Christmas decor!? I used to? I even bought another NEW lovely brand of Christmas Tree and have NOT put it up!??! It is sitting in its box still...lols! I do a all out interior Santa Workshop sort of theme when I do put my Christmas up. My family never became my little helping elves. Denise, do you like the Acreas better than the Arrtyx? Are the Arrtyx lightfast?
I think if I had to pick one over the other - I like the Arttx ones for mark making like I enjoy doing and I use them more. Are they lightfast? there isn't much info out there on that for them, generally acrylic paints are light fast unless they are in the fugitive color range.

Denise, after looking through the printed materials that I just downloaded, I would suggest that you continue to do more 12 days of Christmas type video series, but put new photos of paintings on the pages and possibly add or revise some promos & make new painting videos next year. The prompts are really pretty generic & would work over & over again. Don’t re-create the wheel. Instead, make some visual changes & do new videos. You are always making new videos & at Christmas time, I’m always going to be looking for Christmas related projects. Just my opinion though.
