@@wordgiesworld5483 If I understand it correctly just for a joke when the magazine put them on the cover it was as caricatures of the band not actual pictures.
Great rock band from the 70's-80's. They had lots of hit songs such as "Sylvia's Mother", "When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman", "Only Sixteen", "A Little Bit More", "Sharing The Night Together", "Better Love Next Time", "Sexy Eyes" etc. "The Cover Of Rolling Stone" is such a fun song. They finally did get on the cover of the magazine in 1973 in caricature.
I think I had all of their albums and even saw them in concert! Huge fan! Carrie Me, Carrie is so beautiful, Queen of the Silver Dollar, Sylvia's Mother, Freaker's Ball are all fabulous, to name a few.
Great reaction by the beautiful Angel. "Sharing the night together" by Dr. Hook. It's my personal favorite. I'm sure you will love that song as much as I do.
THe best fun band I ever saw in all the concerts i went to, they were absolutely the best and made such great music. You need to dive into more of them...
That was a great group! I’m giving away my age, but they were hugely popular when I was very young. My favorite song by them is called Sylvia‘s mother. It’s beautiful and sad. Enjoyed your reaction.
You aren't giving away your age...very young could be newborn! lol I am going to do Sylvias Mother next, or Beautiful Woman..I haven't decided. One should be up over the weekend, hope you decide to come back and hang out and watch it with me xo
@ you will not go wrong no matter what song you listen to by Dr. Hook. I would do Sylvia‘s mother next though, and then beautiful woman. They’re both awesome. Sylvia‘s mother is just my personal favorite. Oh, and thanks very much, I wasn’t quite newborn. Lol!
They went to one of the founders of Rolling Stone after this came out & told them that they just gave them the best advertising ever & in 1973 the band was on the cover in caricature. LOL I like their song 'Sylvia's mother'.
rolling stone was a music magazine but the lead singer with a clap for the eye sent the clothes and ran around on scenen naked here in Denmark many years ago, they were very popular in Denmark
This song was written by shel Silverstein they recorded a lot of his song check out their version of freaking at the freakérs ball you won't be disappointed
Is it a generational thing that you couldn't see immediately it was a parody song? It was written by Shel Silverstein who wrote a lot of parody songs. The eye patch is real, Ray was going to quit singing and on his way to work in Oregon, his car hit black ice and he lost the sight of his eye. He decided because he couldn't work he'd try it one more time, they the band took off. They are really talented but their antics are legendary. They do more serious songs and "Sylvia's Mother" is a must.
I am actually recording reactions today and Sylvias Mother is one the list..unsure if I will get it edited and uploaded today or tomorrow, but it will be up this weelenk at some point xo
They got their wish...sort of. The March 29, 1973, cover of Rolling Stone did indeed feature the band, but in caricature form rather than a photograph (and with only three of the band's seven members). Also, the group's name was not used; instead the caption read simply, "What's-Their-Names Make the Cover"
Silvias mother is very good. Carrie me carrie is great, also the song the things i didnt say. The last morning is superb and try Turn on the world Great great songs. More serious the what you just listen to.
In a way, they were *Mocking* what you had to do to get on the Cover of the Rolling Stone, hence the Hard Rock Riff, hence him taking his shirt off, and talking about all the young ladies. So, if you were singing folk music, or just great at music overall, that wouldn't do it....BUT this got them on the Cover, LOL.
This, of course, was written by the incomparable Shel Silverstein, and almost every song Shel wrote was at least partly satirical. (Think, "A Boy Named Sue.") Shel started his career drawing racy (and super funny) cartoons for Playboy, then turned to songwriting, then wrote some of the greatest children's stories ever written. The guy was a genius.
Such a fun band to listen to. They had a number of great songs.. Your smile says it all.
They did eventually get on the cover on the March 29, 1973 issue, shortly after this song was released.

Yes! They did make the cover of the Rolling Stone!

I only heard of this one, so I can't wait for more. xo
Great pick, I have always loved this band and this tune! Sylvia's Mother is another good one!

Great song, great performance, your smile tells it all.
This was an anthem to my friends growing up.
Great reaction by the beautiful Angel. "Sharing the night together" by Dr. Hook. It's my personal favorite. I'm sure you will love that song as much as I do.
Thanks Tom, I will check it out! xo
Great reaction to a fun band.Dr.Hook has many good songs.
The songs were short for radio play but if you could hear them in concert they were usually expanded with extra musical solos.
THe best fun band I ever saw in all the concerts i went to, they were absolutely the best and made such great music. You need to dive into more of them...
They had a caricature of their image on THE Cover of The Rolling Stone magazine but the bands name was not printed on it .
That's kind of different, isn't it?

😊 great review 😊
Novelty tune that was pretty big.Reaching number six in March of 73.
"Sharing the Night Together" is another great song by this band.
If you like the fun here, you need to hear, "I was Stoned And I Missed It".
They went to one of the founders of Rolling Stone after this came out & told them that they just gave them the best advertising ever & in 1973 the band was on the cover in caricature. LOL I like their song 'Sylvia's mother'.
That's a great story! I think I will react to Sylvias Mother next, or Beautiful Woman. xo
Freaker's Ball Is a must.
It's both satirical and literal.
rolling stone was a music magazine but the lead singer with a clap for the eye sent the clothes and ran around on scenen naked here in Denmark many years ago, they were very popular in Denmark
Great sing along song while sitting around a campfire with a cold beer or two
Sylvias Mother is a good one
The song did eventually make it,but instead of an actual photograph, their image on the cover was drawn by a cartoon artist.
Ray was in a car accident that caused the loss of his eye.
Oh no! I was really hoping it was just a stage thing..that sucks! Thanks for letting me know xo

I heard they went into the headquarters of RS and bought five copies each. LOL

Do they earnestly want to get on the cover? Yes. Are they poking fun at bands that want to get on the cover? Also yes.
Must do “Sylvia’s Mother”.
