The reason why some insects have long antennae versus those with very short was answered ages ago. It has to do with the stations they are listening to and the proximity of those stations. There is also the type of station issue--as some tend to be outside the 'norm' and as such the insects have antennae that are decorated to show females that they listen to this station and are edgy. The heavy metal antennae are very different to the euro-industrial antennae-etc. Nice work, in a nerd kind of way-good luck with your PhD-mine was nowhere near as interesting.
