In August 2011, a young horse I was riding fell down with me and gave me a TBI. There were several bleeds. I had a week stay in the hospital and one month of post-trauma amnesia. Had to learn to talk and walk all over again.
I am back to riding horses again. Continuing to ride has helped recovery both physical and cognitive.
I rode a lot prior to the accident and competed in Ranch Versatility. I got back to riding as soon as my doctor cleared me for it. I no longer start young horses or ride horses with major training deficits.
I had started making bits and spurs prior to the accident. I now spend more time making them. I am mostly self-taught and work on improving how I do things each time.
I do spend time helping others work on their horsemanship skills.

I’m in this place now. I’m 61 , and will be having surgery on my shoulder next week after a very bad fall. It will be some time before I can ride again but I’m dreading that time. I want to use my down time to work on my confidence.
