I love "second loved" items! They usually end up being my favorites in my closet! Love a bargain!❤
I’m a major thrifter. I have two big walk in closets full of designer dress, suits, purses, etc. some from high end resale. But the majority are from scores at Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. it’s so much fun “hunting” for that amazing find!
I knew I loved you for a reason! :) I was raised in a poor family and did a lot of garage sale shopping in those days. What that taught me is that even though I can spend more now, it is fiscally responsible to be thrifty (frugal?!) There are some great consignment/resale shops with beautiful clothing that looks (or is) brand new, at a fraction of the cost. It's a great way to change up a wardrobe! And I have to admit, hunting for that bargain is fun!
I love finding great deals like yourself. I found an online app called Poshmark a couple of years ago. I have been selling and buying from there since I found this app. I absolutely LOVE it!! I have my own closet on there and I no longer donate my used clothes. Instead I make money from things that have been sitting in my closet for years. It's a fabulous app to purchase name brand items. And whatever I sell, I use that credit to purchase more things on Poshmark to add to my closet. Try it! I know you'll find something there. Happy shopping!
I am an avid second hand buyer. i don't need as high end as you do for you events...but what I do get is amazing quality for great prices. ARC is my favorite thrift store. I have not only found designer bags and shoes...but I've decorated so much of my home in awesome finds for pennies on the dollar. My favorite site for thrifting all things beautiful for the home is called 'The Gathered Home'. I just love that name! So fitting.

Had closet full of evening dresses.....had litter of kittens....company party in Denver....closet full of dresses in shreds...last minute shopping trip(last resort)plane in three hours....consignment shop...bought dress....400 plus people at party...at the end of the evening a waiter pulled me aside and said all servers had voted...my dress was best! Confirmed consignment shopper since!

Hey Dominique, thanks for being so down to earth! Love it, I did find some shoes at second hand that were new but I could never spend hundreds. It has been a long time. When I will be able to walk better and stand up for longer time, I will go again. Awesome!

They are still a bit pricey, but not nearly AS expensive. You can go even lower in price. These sites have sales, as well..
Kels, I️ agree. Salvation Army in my area has $0.69 day on Saturdays. I’m hoping to get a red leather blazer in my size tomorrow. Also, Goodwill in my area has an InHouse shopper who preselects items that have been donated where they set up a boutique in town for the higher end items. I don’t recall the name.
Great video but really doesn't apply to the reality I live. Only way I would ever spend over $100 on anything (for myself)is for good work boots & warm, winter outerwear. Still... It's fun seeing how the other half live & Dominique is so kind & classic. Inspires me to actually dress well when I'm not cleaning, gardening or swinging a hammer :)

Target and Walmart are no longer cheap and the quality of their stuff is made, well you know where. Anyway go to Salvation Army or Goodwill.I have a couple of great ones that sell couture and some luxury stuff. Good luckl

Thanks for the on line sites, I️ wasn’t aware of either. I️ just shopped at my local resale shop this week, I️ bought a regular $180 L L Bean down parka for $28 and a J Jill coat for $24, both in excellent condition. Also, because I️ bought two coats, I️ got to pick out any scarf for free. A lot of my friends “poo-poo” buying second hand, but not me, so thank you for posting your thoughts.
I consider thrift and resale shopping as the ultimate recycling. I pass things on to friends and my adult daughters after I'm ready for a change, then we all end up getting several years of occasional use from the one item....TOTALLY getting my money's worth. If it's not something others want, I'll take it to the resale shop and they'll usually purchase it for cash or store credit, then I can shop for more, so it's a win/win/win. In the past 5 years, I've gone from having a husband with a 6 figure income, to divorced and my low-side 5 figure social worker income...so I can't pay the $200-$300 a wallet/bag, etc that I had been or getting them as gifts from a husband I no longer have. So, resale is really the way to go for me these days. I'll get the $300 bag for $75! That's my splurge for myself, but it's a type of reuse/recycle.

I am so with you, resale isn't something to be ashamed about..first of all it is good for the environment and as well for your wallet;) I get compliments for my clothes from people who don't know I wear a second-hand lovely item. And it is really fun to do and almost a game to find great things for a great price and to find new places to go to , and to encourage others to try it as well..!

Thank you for this Dominique. I have shopped resale for years, but just recently have made it a passion and I honestly have the best wardrobe of my life. I still get some raised eyebrows when I tell people I buy 2nd-hand (after they compliment my outfit) so I keep it my little secret most of the time! 😉

I once got a silk Jones of New York blazer that still had the tag on it ($250) for $5, woooo hoooo. That “More Than You Can Imagine” store looks awesome!
Nice things but way over my price range even as a resale item! Yikes! My most expensive shoes were $125 new and maybe around $80 for a bag. Thanks for sharing though.

I love all things resale if I can get a good deal on something that is gently used I would rather do that and pocket the rest of my money. Have you ever heard of Malleries? it's a luxury online used/consignment shop they have really good deals I have purchased more sunglasses than I care to admit and a couple of handbags at a really great buy. I found a new with tags Coach purse from Nordstrom for 7 dollars reg price 199 and a Royal Doulton figurine at an estate sale for 8 dollars that appraised for $250. You never know what you will find
I find some clothing have hidden gems. Some people are in such a hurry to donate they leave money, lipstick, etc in the pockets. But more helpfully you’ll find great ideas for tailoring and modifications. For instance in a Goodwill I found a man’s tweed sport coat altered for a petite woman! Now with COVID you can’t try on Goodwill clothing so I rely on my momma’s tips. With pants and shorts find the crotch seam and align it so, then with your other hand pull up the waistband. You’ll get an idea of inseam, rise, and hip/waist fit. If you have the time Goodwill works for you. After many years I’ve found thinking certain things helps me edit. I think, will I find this again? If it was already hanging in my closet would I donate it? Is it unique? What purpose will it fill? Does it complete a capsule wardrobe I might use for travel? If I saw someone else wearing it what would I think? Will it look better on someone else? And then I add up my total cost. If I walk in with a budget in mind I feel better leaving the store if I stay within my budget. You’re beautiful Dominique. You check all the boxes: elegance, intelligence, beauty, and success! We all love you.
I love ebay for handbags! I recently purchased two Brahmins in beautiful condition for $50 and $62, shipping included. A coat of Kiwi polish and a buff, and they look gorgeous!
Hi Dominique! I live in Kansas City, a suburb, actually. We have a number of great thrift stores in my hood! One is a Goodwill, which is affectionately known as the “ Gucci Goodwill “ by people near and far. It located in a very affluent area, and the “stuff” that gets donated is completely jaw dropping! I have picked up many high end finds. In fact, I rarely buy anything at full retail anymore! I would encourage you to check out thrift stores! My daughter is an attorney and she and her friends across the country have coined the phrase “It’s chic to be cheap!” We both love spending less on high end pieces, which then means we have extra for other things we enjoy!

You are so down to earth, like cornbread with melting butter! There is no shame in wearing someone else's clothing. Ponder this: You go into a retail store, try on a blouse. The blouse is already "used" because you have already tried it on (wore it). So, in a thrift store, it's been lovingly used and worn! I enjoy thrifting and looking for little and big treasures. I never pay retail. Uptown Cheapskate has been so good to me! They are a national franchise. When I travel, I visit consignment stores. Great quality keepsakes. I am a trophy wife's temper tantrum away from a great deal.

Great tips Dominique! I have had moderate success selling and buying on Poshmark and Mercari. Bought some really nice (and unique) sweaters and blouses and amongst other things, beautiful Chanel sunglasses and nail lacquer. I’ve also purchased a few beautiful gently used vintage coats on eBay for very reasonable prices. Have a great week! 😘

I agree! I like second hand fashion too! We gave the clothes a second change to be beloved and there is no reason to be ashamed. You can everything clean and wash again and in the second hand clothes is less chemical than in a new one. I love to go on a Sunday morning to the flea marked close to my hose and talk with the Ladies there who are selling there dresses, skirts and all the beautiful items...bags and shoes too...I like it...greetings to you Dominique from a country far away :-)
When my children were little I bought the bulk of their clothes in re-sale shops. A friend came over one day and chastised me for doing that. I took her to my daughter's room and opened one of her drawers, and dared her to tell me which of her pairs of jeans I bought re-sale and which ones I bought new. Of course, she couldn't do it because they all looked the same once washed!

Hi! Great video! I have been shopping resale for years!! My favorite local store is called Clothes Mentor Sylvania, Ohio..but not online, but they do have numerous locations in Texas! They have nice clothes, shoes and my fave..high end handbags, very inexpensive compared to new. My favorite online is called Poshmark! Go to you playstore or apps store and download it! They have everything! Been looking for a Louis Vuitton handbag, will have to save up..alot of $$. But great everything and prices!! They come from real people and the nice thing is that you pay Poshmark but they don't pay the seller until you get it and says it's good!

Thanks so much for the tips! Because I'm an unusual size, I find it more cost-effective and less frustrating to shop online resale and have things altered to fit me if necessary. And if you hate offline shopping secondhand stores but do love to research, this is a real game-changer!
