I really like Bob's lessons when it comes to solos-I wish someone was able to explain this to me 15 years ago, but now it's just really very helpful for the work with my students, he helps me a lot to organise my knowledge and with his examles of lessons I can teach better, thanks Bob!

On the F melodic minor you notated and played a B natural on a G minor chord? I'm a bit confused. Also, when changing modes, you have to change your chords to match the mode. For example. a minor ii chord would become a major II chord if you were using the Lydian. Is this correct? This has helped me more than anything to understand how to approach sequences more effectively in my improvs. Thanks much!!!

I don't know if this helps, but it's written in bass clef so that's a D natural, not a B natural

Hey Bob, After playing in a pop band for years,
I’m getting back to playing jazz. You have great technique and wondering what materials you suggest for Strength/dexterity, intonation, especially intonation. I do read well and have a plan but just wanted your thoughts.

Hi George. Thanks for your comment, and I'm glad to read you're getting back into Jazz. For strength/dexterity I would suggest walking for 10mins (use a timer) straight over whatever tune you might be studying...and up that time to longer the next week. If 10min is too long getting started then that's fine, obviously adjust to where you're at. Regarding intonation I'm actually working on a course now that will have a lot of good exercises and hopefully demystify how to play better in tune. I would for now suggest practicing scales along with a drone. Don't look at a tuner or the fingerboard, and just use your ears along with the drone. Let me know how it goes!
