We rented it for my birthday this year.. it was super fun
It’s cool, it’s just way too much money for what it is. Street legal dune buggy kit cars are just as much fun at a fraction of the costs. I had a Manx buggy with a built motor when I was younger. That car could wheelie.
That's because it is a car not a trike it has a car motor, trans, steering wheel, seat, ect.
@@FloridaBoilermaker you realize this video is of a slingshot not a cam am or harley trike right? Because aside from having only three wheels the slingshot it very much a car. It has standard seats, a steering wheel, and a standard sort of car shifter, even car tires and wheels. It’s much more like a street equipped dune buggy than you might realize
I just got one used and it saves you so much money on insurance cause it's a motorcycle it's less than a thosand a year
Gearing in cars can vary wildly. A short first gear is often to provide quicker off the line acceleration, or for heavier vehicles (for their power output) to just get going. For example a big rig 1st gear is like 4 - 6 mph. If it REALLY bothers you, starting in second is probably fine in something like the slingshot, since it's got a solid p/w.
It just means you have to shift more often, which for some people, is part of the fun of driving a manual.

I used to drive a manual 2008 (maybe 9?) subaru legacy and i was shifting out of first by 15 mph and that was over half way through the rev range. maybe it could do 20 but i wanted to preserve the life of the engine so no redlining
I have seen a good number of these Polaris Slingshots lately. I have been told that you don't necessarily need a motorcycle license to own one. If you can get one with an automatic, it might interest me.
My 2020 Acura ILX is a little over twice the weight of this thing with the same HP . I bet this thing has some enjoyable gitty up 🤷🏻♂️
Manual cars/pickups normally shift out of first between 15 and 20 MPH. In my Ranger I usually shift every 10-15MPH for normal city driving. Sports cars can have taller gearing given they have a higher redline than a regular passenger car or pickup. Even then that can cause some extra wear on the drivetrain.
Also just rented one, hardest part was giving the keys back!! An absolute must try. Would be nice to be able to shift there auto drive system w/some paddles tho. I think that’s the only disappointment I had .
I have paddles for my autodrive, but for the lower models you have to purchase the paddles.
20mph at the top of first isn’t surprising. It’s probably geared that way to keep traction better. Fwd manual cars lose traction when launched hard. They usually put a short first gear in those. In my beater Mitsubishi lancer gts I can’t get through an intersection without shifting to second but then 2nd gear is super long. Aside from the interstate I can stay in second gear until I hit the speed limit without redlining. Then shift up, back off the accelerator and drop the RPMs. I think this thing is rear wheel drive but it only has one rear wheel so similar issue of low traction
The S is the entry level model
SLR is mid-range now under the R. Best bang for the buck, unless you want the extra pep of the R.
So is R better than SlR?
Did yall film this on different days? When you first leave mountain motor spots the lot is empty, but in the scene when you pull out onto the road the lot is full of cars.
Could have just been hours apart even, but they are always shot separately in two different runs.

Can the Polaris Slingshot be bought in India? What will it cost in India? If Polaris Slingshot is not available in India can we order from abroad?
I like my bikes and cars clean. How do I wash this? Can I hose down the interior? If not, this is a chore to clean the exterior and not wet the interior.
It's waterproof, you can just wash it normal and the water drains right out.
What's the weight capacity and how do you think a 6'2" person would fit in there? You think there's enough seat adjustment or this a short guy vehicle
At 6'3 and 300+ it fits me with room to spare

@@hollywoodredneck8565 You should rent one for a day thoughts may change drastically. Had one for the day in OC and was super excited about it but to say it was quick not so much. Pretty slow and didnt like to be power shifting at all Even quick rough shifts it grinded almost everytime and to say I cant drive manual well my daily is and have always preferred them over auto.

Ive driven one multiple times. Ditch the sling shot and go buy a miata. its far more refined, has a wild aftermarket, cheaper insurance(at least where i live), and its not classified as a motorcycle so you dont need to wear a helmet.. Ohh and its far cheaper!

Rented one of those last summer it was a huge disappointment. Very clunky trans and awfully slow. I’m sure it had a hard life since it was a rental but I was super excited to drive it and was let down big time. I’m sure the higher tier model may be better but the one I had was pretty meh. My buddy’s ol stock wrx seemed like a rocket compared.
I bet 100% that it's probably rental wear and tear... Half the people who rent these thrash the engine and grind the tranny...

Well ya gotta figure a bike has a lot less parts and stuff going on. No windows, wipers,ac,heat, Ect ..so I’d have to agree these are a bit over pretty for what they actually are. I’m sure you Could build a really sick kit car for 30k. But maybe that’s not ur thing..
These types of vehicles are a toy for those with disposable income. Nothing more. Same with the KTM X-Bow.

Yeah....credibility went out the door when you tried to play off your money shift as "it went into neutral"....technically yes, it was in neutral right before you downshifted instead of upshifting. Also, you should've started your 40-80 test in a lower gear....hence the reason you didn't really accelerate all that much.

lol, that was my first thought as well... you RIDE a motorcycle, but anything with a bucket seat, steering wheel, gear lever, and pedals is DRIVEN. Yay for being overly pedantic :)

Why would you think someone would want to buy a Miata that bought a Slingshot? They are two completely different machines, the guy in this video simply had no driving skills.
100% of the thrill of a supercar? Insane hyperbole. It's slower to 60 than a Ninja 300. Supercars are like liter bike fast if not more. It's not even 100% the thrill of a Miata.

Also the Slingshot only weighs about 1600lbs with 208hp, but you claim that it's down on power? The slr has 170ish hp I think. The r and about have over 200 hp.
