Gwen had club, radio and BET hits that everyone knew and loved but, most of the time, did not do well on the national Billboard charts. Chart placement has always been a money game. Gwen was not getting that kind of label support. "Ain't Nothin' Goin' On But The Rent" is Gwen's only US Top 10 (#1 on the R&B and Dance Club Play charts; #3 on the Dance Single Sales chart). As popular as it was it didn't even crack the Top 40 on the Hot 100.
