Rich was raw, and this cover does him such justice. I love that signature Derek guitar work. It takes me back to the early albums. I'll definitely hope to check out this EP. I hope you're finding some grace in your journey, Derek. Mine has mirrored it for so long.

You have such talent from God, Derek. Thank you for sharing these songs. Rich will be so thrilled to see you, his little brother, again one day in the new creation. But even more so will the Lord Jesus whom you once belonged to and will therefore always belong to no matter which fields you find yourself in now. Your homecoming will be a celebration like none other. You are loved.

As I’ve been on a journey of faith and self-identity these last years, about the only music from my evangelical past I could bear to listen to have been Rich and Derek Webb. I can’t say how thankful I am for this cover. Honest and real.

I've been a fan of Derek's since I did a blind buy of caedmon's long line of leavers back in 2000 and he hasn't disappointed me yet.

Would be great if God were capitalized in the fully lower-cased font. Would add stronger artistic effect for an “Almighty” God.
    Incredible Cover

I'm no pro musician, but I love Rich's composition. I've surmised that it takes a lot of talent to cover most any of his songs in a way that does it justice. Way to go! this is inspiring, & I'll be listening to it for days/years to come :)

Derek, I grew up on Rich's music and also discovered your music as a young man. I want to say that you captured the spirit of Rich's song here. I felt like you made it your own and I felt your truth, hope, and anguish in this cover. Mullins always hit the soft spot of the human condition, and constructed works of art that pushed deeper than conventional Christian music dared to go at the time. You likewise have carried that same banner of worshipping Jesus in spirit and in the truth. Thank you for your honesty, and may the grace of Christ sustain you in the day's ahead, my brother.

Derek you are a rare one! You can see that we in America have some challenges to true faith...community, hermeneutics, and practical living. But God uses men like you to make us question the status quo. Don't stop pressing brother....you are not alone

I have rewatched this video a dozen times. You have really captured the emotional weight of the song in this recording. It's a beautiful recognition of our creatureliness. We cannot carry the burdens of life on our own. We are fragile. The experiences of joy and hell in this life can run so closely together. Thanks for this recording, and for keeping the music of your friend Rich Mullins alive.

Thank you, Derek. This touched my heart this morning.
When we love, we do walk on water. There’s this wonderful power of a better future that when we define it and make it clear from our hearts to our minds, it pulls us beautifully forward and above the depths below.
Much love to you from Boise.

Derek, if there's one question I've wanted to ask you more than any other over the last few years, given the journey you've been on, it's what you think of Rich's music these days. I wondered how your changes in faith had impacted your love of it. (Only a few months ago, I once again ran across an old video of you and CC with him, and your admiration for him was obvious in the expressions on your face. You also seemed to be intensely hanging on his every word, which I used to do myself!) Well, now I have my answer, and I'm very glad that your love and gratitude for Rich remains.
This is a great cover; thank you for it. Rich played this on his Brother's Keeper tour, introducing it as the song he forgot to put on the album; I caught his Nov 1995 DC stop.
Rich's music still is incredibly powerful, isn't it? And while I come from a very different place than you do regarding the Christian faith, allow me to convey my belief that Rich has heard your cover and likes it. I expect he's praying for you. Peace to you, peace of Christ to you.

You are the only artist, aside from one other (Mutemath) that I have been able to consistently enjoy. Always challenging my walk, always providing much-needed realism/rawness. Thank you, Derek. You and Paul Meany (of Mutemath) are true examples of transparent vulnerability. Your music inspires. Shout out to Rich, as well. Absolute legend!
Sidenote, if you haven’t heard this one, check it out: I have felt this way many times. I think it’s great to put it into music:

This is a great rendition. I must confess I’m confused, as someone who has so completely rejected God, Christ, and the message of grace and redemption why you have stayed so engaged with the Christian community. I think if I lost my faith I would run as far from the “lie” as I could.

    • @derekwebb
      @derekwebb  3 роки тому +6

have i “completely rejected god, christ, and the message of grace and redemption”? where have you read that?
i have said that i’m permanently uncertain about invisible (god) and unknowable (the future) things, but uncertainty isn’t the enemy of faith, it’s the prerequisite.
